Suggestion and Update Thread

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
A button to only get highlighted posts. This would make it easier to read old threads, or threads that move really fast. Would probably also make the site faster, since people wouldn't have to request a new page every couple of seconds to see the next highlight. A secondary suggestion is media viewer, to only show posts with media. Useful in threads where the main content is uploaded media, like the tranny dating profiles, where people mainly want to laugh at them and not discuss.

I wonder,

Could there be a benefit to a system where certain threads or sections are marked as "anomynous," where any posts made in that thread will use an alternate username with user identifying information stripped and made inaccessible? So say you could have a thread on Chris-chan where posters who know him personally and talk shit about him without being traced back to posts they wrote elsewhere on the site?

the easiest solution would be to not post at all.

I don't think anonymity is a bad idea inherently, but it's rendered useless by the fact that 1) if it's an informative post, nobody will care that it was you who posted it and 2) if it isn't you'll get told to stop powerlevelling/a-logging anyway. If you're really concerned, you may as well talk to staff about it to make an alt or something. If you really want to shit-talk a cow anonymously go to another site.
Didn't we have an anonymous board at one point? It was off-topic but it got shit pretty quickly. Complete anonymity (no names etc whatsoever) is rarely productive.

Yeah its just kind of awkward trying to search for some stuff that at the moment.

I think a 'search thread' function would be useful for finding specific things within a specific thread that's very long, and that could have the option to search posts by person, I've seen some other forums put that option in and its quite useful.

Suggestion/question: Could we have a plugin that, when a YouTube video is embedded, a download link would be added underneath? Like an integrated YouTube downloader so that everyone can easily make a local backup without running it through yt-dlp.

Any way to make the "Featured Content" and "Latest watched" menus collapsible on the home page like the subforums?

Have the background cycle left-right as you change pages, or randomly, whatever's easiest. As it stands most of the comics are hidden most of the time, barring right at the bottom.
That, and a way to turn off animated avatars/specific animated avatars. Some are annoyingly distracting when you're interested in thread content.

Let people tag their posts with "Happening" that is used for events or changes in the lolcow's life (arrested, big spergouts, etc). Other users can click the "happening" button on that post to increase it by one, which will prevent mods from having to screen every "happening" post, anything under a set amount is not recognized. You can then view the threads filtered by Happening which screens out all commentary and fluff posts by other users.
Either that or at least the ability to filter by "only show highly upvoted posts"

I want to get into a lot of cows but I cant be fucked to read through 2000 pages of "lol thats gay" I'd love to be able to just jump to events directly related to the lolcow's activity. Maybe there's a good Xenforo reason we don't have advanced filters that I'm ignorant to
 
Who determines what gets front paged? If it is the individual thread moderators can the Donald Trump lolcow thread quit frontpaging stories if they don't want anybody from the outside to come in and interrupt their circlejerk?
 
Since the Farms Invidious server is dead I'd like to suggest YouTube.js as a possible alternative for embeds. It's what FreeTube uses.
I don't know if it would be easy to implement, but if it works client side it wouldn't require server resources.

There is. While reading the thread go to search at the top:

Put the user's name in the "By:" box. The "Everywhere" is a dropdown you can click to select where to search. Leave the "Search..." part blank and it will find all of their posts.

I don't know if it still works but you can try LibRedirect. It can replace embeds with embeds from random public Invidious servers.
But I warn you it often doesn't work because many Invidious servers are blocked, so you might have to use the switch servers button and reload the page.
Also when I last used it it would autoplay embeds for some reason. I don't know if that's been fixed.
