Suggestion and Update Thread

If the previous highlighted post got moved to a new thread, it takes you to that thread, instead of the thread you are currently on, and I can't navigate to the previous highlighted posts in the thread:
eg, this post:

This takes me to a this new thread here instead of the Styx thread, so I can't view any highlighted posts in the Styx thread without navigating back to whereever that post was made in the Styx thread.

Can this get changed so highlighted post navigation in a thread always keep you to the same thread?

A long time ago, I was a member of a forum that was shit in every way except for one--its news threads. They had dedicated stickied news threads on various subjects, with the rule that you had to post a relevant article or a video in order to post in the sticky, with little commentary except for a brief summary, title, or description. There were opinion and talk threads about the same subjects in the same forum, so people could chat it up and bloviate all they wanted, but if they posted in the clearly marked news sticky thread without linking any news, they were threadbanned from ever posting in it again.

Could we do that here?

The recent addition of the highlights-only mode got me thinking, although this would probably be too computationally intensive to actually implement. It could be interesting to set a post score, and only see posts above that score. It would help with dry periods, where even the highlights aren't really interesting, and to see more post during high intensity periods, where almost every post is highly-voted.
Maybe even not just score, but the absolute value of the score. Even negatively rated posts can be important, and those get buried with the current highlight system

I have no idea if it's been suggested before, mark me as late if it did: Remember how the forum had anonymous posting enabled? How about returning it, but only let registered members be able to use it, sort of like anonymous mode, so if someone wants to PL a little bit to provide more relevant information on a cow for example, it won't be a permanent log on ones account.

Maybe I'm just really late noticing this, but has Null said why he renamed the lolcow and lolcow salon forums?
I feel like "Criticism" is a clunky word to use for these sections, if this is some legal "in Minecraft" play by Josh, hopefully someone can suggest a way to shoehorn it or the word critique into better section titles for both.

Edit: I'm clearly bad at searching, he did give some vague non-context a week ago

I like how there's still a way to run the site without JavaScript on. The less a site relies on JS to run, the better.

(Even on a more recent system, I still prefer JS off because it less system resources, it's also safer, and less ads.)

Couple suggestions for new supporter features:
  • Profile page customization (like changing the background image or colors or whatever)
  • Limited creation of temporary SneedChat rooms, if possible/feasible with the ability to add watch-party-style content embeds for each chatroom, like Cytube
    • The content embedding thing could maybe only be done with manual mod approval on a case-by-case basis
    • I could see myself using a feature like this for sharing interesting content I've found but don't want to do full write-ups for quite yet, and also seeing what prospective content other people have been digging up. I also imagine there are plenty of Multimedia nerds who would pay to watch whatever nerdslop they post about with other users.

No idea how hard these would be to implement but just putting them out there.

Just want to say i appreciate having the ability to collapse users in a dm chain now like i asked before, thanks for that null.

I don't know if this would be hard to implement but I think having the reaction score from profiles function similar to how steam games are rated would be neat. Could be a bad feature if people abuse it though so i could be dumb in suggesting this.

Should there be an acceptable file size upper limit for image uploads on most boards, with exceptions given to boards showcasing art? I normally resize larger images and convert PNGs and JPEGs to WEBP format which substantially reduces file size. Animated GIF images are cumbersome and antiquated and should be replaced with modern formats, animated WEBP is the obvious answer.

Change the default reaction from "like" to "informative" in threads like the War News threads.
In this case, the reaction is really useful for feeding the automated highlight system, in light of the flood of off-topic garbage replies.
Perhaps this is technically not doable.
