At the end of the day, why does it matter? Should you live only because someone loves you?
You ll die, they will die too sooner or later. If her husband kills himself, how is that her burden? She will be dead and her husband will be too.
I dont understand how live is such value to be preserved under any circumstances. If you want to die, society should help you die or at least dont interfere. What inherit value do you bring to society as permanently depressed?
Because Humans have small minds (not an insult, but there is only so much two eyes and one small biocomputer can process).
Almost every single Human who considers suicide has things to live for, ways to solve their problems, things that they could reach to become happy.
Like Incels. They believe that they will never know love, but in reality they just need to look after their body, go out and be a useful and helpful person, etc. Or people that lose a loved one. They believe they'll just be lonely forever now so why not kill myself. While in reality they would almost certainly meet someone quicker than they think if they just went out and engaged positively with the community, like working at a charity.
Most illnesses that seem intractable actually have a cure out there you just hadn't considered or been aware of. Most addictions can be overcome if someone showed you a better way, etc. Even for things like guilt, there are ways to make amends for the crime, and help people in the process.
For every "problem" a person could have, there are a thousand solutions. But Humans might be only aware of a handful, try them, then think it's hopeless and despair.
It's extremely rare for a person to find themselves in an objectively hopeless situation where suicide is genuinely the only option. Like someone with a totally degenerative disease, or someone about to be captured by ISIS who chomps down a cyanide pill.
Most hopeless or despair inducing scenarios are only so due to lack of information.
That's why there is such a strong emphasis on Informed Consent, even in those places that assisted killing is legal. To ensure that there is not some missing bit of information that, if the victim was aware of it, they would eagerly latch on to and want to try instead of suicide.
