The designers got into the head of an 8 year old boy who loves dinosaurs and put that shit to paper, and I adore it
They perfectly captured the ridiculous energy the designs needed for the games' plots
I will say that the Japanese trio and the Dinaurains are actually very competent (as are the human character designs in general), but the actual Vivosaurs are garbo lol. I love them.

it's unfortunate, but really- what even is there to celebrate? unfinished garbage that's going to spend more time extorting you than it will being playable? sequels to old franchises that will ruin everything that made them great? the announcement of a shitty franchise adaptation into a streaming show?

I'd say there's still the fanboys, but SGF doesn't even have that since all the big companies went the Nintendo Direct route after covid. Sony has their showcases, I already mentioned Nintendo... I think Microsoft might be the only one left who shows big stuff off at these things, and even then I'm sure they'll switch to their own dedicated event soon enough. It's mostly just indies now, and no matter how popular those might be they'll never be centralized enough to garner hype for an event to the extent that people will flood attendance for it like a new Nintendo or Sony thing might.

I'm not against the thread, nor am I against SGF; just wanted to offer a possible explanation as to why nobody's talking about it lol. There's no real reason to care about SGF, I think. It's still fun, though, so I do anyways

E3 has been completely pointless for a while now. Since at least the early 2010's if not the late 2000's. Most people these days get all their video game news from other sources. YouTube streamers and TikTok. There are YouTube channels that do better video game coverage. You can find out about all the games in a 20-30 minute long video. Not 3 hours of BS. Do they still do E3 anymore? Is it still a thing? I haven't really paid attention to E3 since the early and mid 2000's.

E3 is basically going the way of video game magazines and other video game culture stuff. Like the must have game culture of late 2000's and early 2010's. No one goes out and lines up outside of stores for games anymore. Digital copies never run out. Just like preordering is a dying trend for the same reason that and the games being shit on release. E3 is on it's way out if isn't already. It should have been around in the mid 2010's.

Hoping for something interesting out of this after Sonys tepid show the other day.

I think back to how people said Shadow of Mordor/War was awful and then look at Gollum/Return to Moria and just laugh

There used to be issues in regards to video games where you could only use stuff from books and movies, which I thought might explain why Gollum and Moria look so awful. But looking at the page for Moria it looks like everything falls under the "Middle Earth" banner now?

Two Towers and Return of hte King in the early 2000's were pretty good for the time, but I'm pretty sure that's just cause they had a bunch of money thrown at them because of how big the movies were. The Shadow games had pretty high production but I think WB was really banking on there being a LOTR renassaince with that.

For the most part, LOTR games are shit though so Gollum and Moria being shit track.

Edit: its also UE5.1, so it doesn't have the 'improved' TSR anti aliasing that ghosts (relatively) less. If you've ever wondered why games are absolutely bathed in motion blur these days, its because of this:

This is the default UE5.1 settings with motion blur disabled and Lumen disabled. That awful artifacting around the shadows is the TSR anti aliasing.

it completely shits itself in motion and blurs and ghosts. The best part is that it hard locks to 60% resolution scale and then uses the TSR to upscale the entire scene to your resolution. This is combined with things like Lumen being run at half resolution and also having its own ghosting.

It also devours VRAM, and the TSR is required to use Lumen or Nanite. The future of games that use Unreal are looking really bleak.

I am so mad I'm going to personally redesign some of these myself just to get this off my chest

this took like 20 minutes total and I'm not certain I'm super happy with it, but I did as I said I would
it's really anthropomorphic, which is putting me off, but I still think it looks infinitely more cheerleader-like than the original ever will
I tried to make it slightly more bee-like while also keeping it cute and feminine (because cheerleaders), and I didn't have the heart to overhaul its color scheme, but it got kind of hard to emphasize the cheering without really human poses and that eventually lead to a pretty human-like structure
also bees have pretty creepy limbs so I ended up sticking with the original's incredibly nubby ones due to the design not going for any kind of creep factor


the idea pad probably looks like schizo ramblings but I'm posting it to show that I swear the sketch looked better lol
it also shows off some other stuff I didn't have the energy to put into the main picture (namely the fact that the pompoms would be stored in those pockets bees have on their legs for carrying pollen alongside a back view that showed how the wings were supposed to look like those big bows some cheerleaders have) and an unused pose so enjoy I guess
