Because ultimately Competitive Smash Bros has long since lost it's prime. Melee really did carry the smash community and it's decline did essentially kill the Smash scene, even one of the bigger communities for Melee, Melee Hell, hasn't been as active as it was years ago.

Me too, I checked out around the time Zero got exposed. There were other local reasons too. Just a shame no other fighting game in my country has a scene, not even SF or Tekken.

Hi. If you don't know me, I'm Squerk and I used to be a part of the smash community. I grew up going to tournaments, and I had been a part of the scene for a LONG time. I distanced myself from the community over these last few years because I didn't like the person it turned me into, and because of how many gross and vile people there are in the community behind closed doors.
The reason I'm writing this post is because of the twitlongers posted by Juno and WaDi. For context, WaDi has been my best friend for years and we have a LOT of history. Juno is also a friend of mine, and I was completely shocked when they announced on twitter that they were dating.
I was the person that Juno mentioned in her twitlonger that gave her a place to stay after she had to move out of WaDi's place, and I'm the same person that gave Joi a place to stay after she moved out when they also broke up. I asked Juno not to mention my name in her post, as I didn't want be brought into the situation, I just wanted to help a friend. I think I'm probably the only person that knows everybody involved well enough to form a full opinion on everything, and I want to do the right thing and speak out about all of this despite not involving myself in the community anymore.
I fully believe and support Juno in her statements about WaDi. When I was around 15 or 16 and met WaDi, we developed a friendship that eventually turned romantic. He was 20 at the time, I was a minor. I would travel to northern Virginia with some other people from SoVA and we would stay with other friends from the area. A lot of my memory is blurry from that period of my life, but I remember these specific details: WaDi convinced me to be his boyfriend at one point, I (an impressionable teenager) of course also wanted that as I was very confused about my sexuality and identity at that time in my life. During the time we were briefly dating, we had a sexual encounter when I was 15/16 and he was 20 years old. He almost immediately broke things off with me and started dating somebody else. We dated for 3, MAYBE 4 days before he broke up with me for his ex-fiance Cinnpie. We were on pretty awful terms after that, and I was super bitter about it.
When the Cinnpie twitlonger originally came out, there was a rumor going around that WaDi had sexual relations with a minor that I denied at the time because I didn't want to see my friend's career be ruined. This was obviously a huge mistake, I told him I would lie for him and I regret that a lot. Especially knowing that other people were hurt by him after what happened to me. It took me a while to see his true colors and notice his toxic patterns.
I eventually moved on, and honestly it's not something that has affected me a ton as an adult. I'm 23 now, and it happened a long time ago. I don't feel super traumatized it in any way, but after seeing a pattern and speaking with other ex's of his I realized that I was groomed as a minor by him. He manipulated me into a relationship at a young age, had sex with me, and broke things off immediately. It seems awfully familiar to what happened with Juno. It ALSO seems to me like there's a pattern to his dating with people much younger than him.
Obviously I don't really have any proof for any of my claims, but I think there are definitely people who I traveled with all those years ago who could vouch for my story if they wanted to. The only reasons I'm really making this post is to give more of an example to his true character, and because it's frustrating seeing people call this a "he-said, she-said" situation with everything that I know about him.
I think the whole situation is extremely gross, very upsetting to read, and so so so disappointing to hear about somebody who was a good friend to me through some of the toughest times of my life. I believe Juno, and I think it's very important to support victims at a time like this. I want to make it clear that I do not want any sympathy for this, I'm totally fine. Support Juno through all of this as SHE is the one who's hurting. All I ask is that nobody involves me any more than this. I can answer questions to the best of my ability, but that's all I really have to say.

I read a post somewhere of someone making an excuse on behalf of a Smash Ultimate player throwing his controller. He said something along the lines of how it's understandable to act so salty when those matches require a lot of focus and can drag on for way too long. Melee seems to have the opposite issue, where matches don't run on for quite as long but the momentum of the game and the sheer amount of hand destroying tech skill nonsense you have to do to compete is several times worse than Ultimate. These games just look and sound insanely unappealing to play competitively, and they have miserably low prize pools so there isn't an allure there either.
Nintendo did get involved, but not with Smash. Nintendo has hosted competitive Pokémon tournaments since the early 2000s and created their own official circuit (The Video Game Championships) in 2009 that still operates as it always has. They not only do tournaments for the mainline games but also host tournaments for the spinoffs. The first place winners for Pokémon Unite got $100,000, which makes the winnings from EVO look quaint by comparison even when you consider that its a team based game. The vast majority of competitors tend to be the sort of family friendly, mildly autistic teens that Nintendo want to make lifetime customers out of when they inevitably grow up and have disposable income and excuses to diversify their interests. Mind you, Pokémon had its own influencer pedo scandal a couple years ago like Smash and VGC is still going entirely unaffected.
I'm sure they can run VGC at a loss forever because Pokemon prints money, but so does Smash. I think Nintendo, specifically the devs involved with Smash, know that the only people who would endure the misery that is playing competitive Smash Bros are manchildren with way too much time on their hands who only think about Smash(ing kids). That's such a horrendous demographic to draw attention to when the entire point of esports is for it to be a glorified advertising platform, especially since Smash is as much of a kids game as Pokémon is.

For those who don't know: Squerk is Puppeh's biological brother. So, it seems like based on the timeline, Wadi and Cinnpie were simultaneously grooming underaged brothers before getting together themselves.

It makes a lot of sense why when Panda actually had a chance of doing something cool and professional, all of these sick fucks wanted nothing to do with Smash going mainstream.
