Super Smash Bros.

I miss the trophy gallery. Those things had so much trivia in them. I wish they had at least some kind of mythology section...

Obviously the spirits cut costs but I wish they at least had bios
There was this fan project that gave descriptions to all spirits. Although I found the writing for some to be bland and inaccurate.

It is very strange to me that Microsoft hasn't put their foot down and ordered a Banjo remake ala Crash and Spyro. It would sell fucking gangbusters as long as it stayed as true to the originals as those did. It seems like at this point they'd even be willing to port it to the Switch. The game would reach its core audience and MS would pick up a fuckton of sales they'd miss otherwise.
This was half the point of the XBLA re-releases of the N64 BK games (the other half being to ease people into Nuts & Bolts).

Certainly, though I don't think an enhanced port carries the hype or clout that a full remake would. That said, aside from the sparse glitches and the (necessary) removal of Nintendo references, those ports are really good.

I don't think anyone actually wants Rare to make a new Banjo. They just want a new Banjo. Then again with how Battletoads turned out, maybe Kinect Sports Ltd. is the lesser of two evils...

Well, it's a pipe dream regardless. It's just nice to see them again.
I dunno man, Battletoads and Killer Instinct managed to return, and people are absolutely electrified by B-K in SSBU.

Call me optimistic if you want, but I don't see how a new game or remakes is all that farfetched these days. Be it made by Rare or some other developer like those games, I've a good feeling that we'll see the series make a leap to Scarlett in some form.

For now though, let's just celebrate the fact that the series is getting some use these days.

More Banjo shitposting. Some crossover with the Smash Bros. Community thread.

So I haven't bought any of the newest console, but I did play Brawl, and Brawl sucked ass. Did Super Smash Bros continue the trend of adding shitty annoying gimmicky mechanics, or did they just have to do that because it came out on Wii?

Because personally, I would be more than happy if they just re-released Melee and kept adding characters, challenges, and maybe a new kind of storymode, because it seems like new characters are what most people are excited about anyway, I don't see too many people talking about the gameplay being improved.

Any Smash-fags that can prove me wrong? I've been thinking about getting a Nintendo Switch for Mario Maker/Odyssey and Zelda:BoTW anyway, just don't know if it's enough to draw me away from the PC.

Depends what you mean by annoying gimmicky mechanics. If you mean random tripping, that's been removed entirely. The post-Brawl games are also a lot faster, not Melee fast, but not as sluggish as Brawl. That said, the controls have been improving and now feel a lot smoother and more responsive. Really, the only "gimmick" I can think of for Ultimate is the dramatic "final blow" that's used to finish the match, and even then it's kinda cool and it helps quickly signify the fight is most likely over.

If you want better single-player, I'm sorry to say that Ultimate doesn't quite hold a candle to Brawl or Melee but it is good in its own right. The World of Light is at best okay but it's not nearly as good as Melee's Adventure mode or even Brawl's Subspace Emissary. It's just a series of fights with specific stipulations attached, which can be a fun time-waster but it can also be tedious at times. That being said, Ultimate has the best Classic mode since it's now character-specific; Luigi for example will fight the monster/spooky characters since he's cowardly, and Peach fights characters who are known for kidnapping her. Some characters even have unique final bosses, such as the Belmonts (and Luigi) fighting Dracula. Ultimate also does this thing where at the start, the only characters available are the initial 8 from the original Smash, and you unlock more characters by playing single-player modes like Classic and World of Light, and character unlocks are frequent enough to make both engaging.

I think the reason you don't see a lot of people talk about improving gameplay is because after Brawl, it seems as though the developers figured out what worked and what didn't in terms of game feel. Smash 4 played really well but was bereft of content since most of the characters were already unlocked. Ultimate plays mostly like Smash 4 but also has a lot more stuff to do.

Finally unlocked all the characters in Ultimate (Palutena was the last one I had left to unlock). Out of all the characters, Bowser and Incineroar are my favorites, and I alternate between the 2 of them as my mains. K. Rool, Ridley, Ganondorf, Simon Belmont, Piranha Plant, Wolf, and Bayonetta are some other favorites.

As for the upcoming DLC fighters, words cannot express how happy I was when Banjo & Kazooie were shown to be coming to the game. They'll be a day one purchase. Also glad to see The Hero get in. Considering both how good the Dragon Quest series is, as well as how popular it is, it's nice to see it get some representation in Smash.

Also really diggin' the BK music track for the game:

Like a lot of others, Crash Bandicoot and Doomslayer are the 2 characters I'd most like to see make the cut for DLC. Seeing as how Doom Eternal is coming out this November, hopefully Doomslayer will be revealed around that time as the next upcoming fighter.

I couldn't be more satisfied with the roster with Banjo and Kazooie finally coming back home. If I were to pull for just one more though, it'd be Crash without question. He's the last quintessential platformer mascot still not on the roster aside from Rayman and Spyro and is the spiritual successor to Sonic as the Mario rival back in the day (remember the "Hey plumber boy!" commercials?). That and his moveset practically writes itself with things like his spin attack, belly flop and wumpa fruit gun to name a few.

Odds are there will be a 'Wave 2' of DLC characters, considering how well Ultimate has sold so far. If there is, hopefully characters like Rayman, Spyro, and Travis Touchdown will make the cut (if they aren't already planned content).

Another potential series that might see some representation in the form of a DLC fighter is Monster Hunter. Considering that series popularity in Japan, coupled with the series having multiple entries on Nintendo consoles, as well as a Rathalos as a boss in Ultimate, it will be surprising if the series doesn't get more representation in Smash.

Some other potential DLC characters I'd like to see:

Spring Man
310

Midna and Wolf Link (I think they'd make an interesting duo)
