Super Smash Bros.

I just realized that fans(?) on a series will get defensive(?) on their character(s) some extent, like I'm not going to use Byleth here but a different character.
If Dante got in: if someone just merely says "I don't like Dante", not saying hes edgy, just that the guy just doesn't like Dante (because Dante doesn't click with the guy or something), that guy would get spammed with "HOES MAD" images of Dante all day.
"he doesnt look cool to interest me" ->HOES MAD
"too many reps" -> HOES MAD
"whos this character" -> HOES MAD
It's all so tiring.

With that out of the way, I didn't want Byleth but good on people who want them. Just ending it on Byleth after three totally new reps is like getting whiplash out of nowwhere.

I just realised that If you arrange the Challenger Pack characters in order of their release, then shape it into a 3x3 grid, that Byleth is perfect to fit in the 'NOT YOU' slot of that old meme.

I mean, you say this, but the closest we've got to that before this is Terry, and I don't remember much Hoes Mad flying around. Mainly because he got BTFO'd by Sans, and the Good Boys and Girls comment.

With Byleth, the Hoes Mad are flying around because the number of Fire Emblem characters has long been a point of contention in Smash. There's way more anger in this than most reactions. Add on that, placement aside, it's just the weakest out of an otherwise amazing roster of DLC characters, and it really does have a huge contrast.

What I always find wired is when you point it out with other series with a huge number of characters like Mario or Pokemon it's justified just because of popularity but not fire emblem because animu swordie bad but give me purple luigi and a puppet from that one game. I just find the double standard something.

I'm not going to speak for fandoms but I can say that Hero (I think this guy started it all?) deserves respect. The grandfather of all RPGs finally gets a rep, and a lot of people either don't know about it or shits on it. But unlike Byleth, Dragon Quest is split between helping others learn about it like SNK fans with Terry, or going "HOES MAD" though its more of the former than the latter.
With Byleth I see, it's all "HOES MAD" left and right no matter what you say about them even if you genuinely don't know the guy or just say "this guy doesn't interest me". FE just takes the phrase from Hero, and uses it for the full malicious intent and only resorts to it.
Meanwhile, Banjo and Joker just gets a lot of love, fan-art, and the fans just stays out of the mess.

The HOES MAD meme started with Hero, because people lost their ever loving minds because Hero was a niche character that some people legit have never heard of or seen, especially hardcore Nintendo fans who basically don't know what other consoles have been doing for the last decade and Dragon Quest's most recent title was a Playstation exclusive until after Hero was announced.

So it became a pissing contest of "my character deserves a slot more then this Hero guy no one cares about!" so DQ fans just started spamming "Hoes mad" on twitter. Now it just synonymous with the typical Smash community bitching about character's getting announced at this point like it did with Terry Bogard which had the same level of HOES MAD spam and now Byleth. This type of bitching is normal for smash, HOES MAD is just the most current reaction to the outrage that has existed since Brawl.

I mean someone mixed "Hoes mad" with the Dragon Quest theme to sum up the reaction people had to Hero and the DQ fanbase's response to the reaction.

Give me a character not seen since 2003 or a character who's biggest role was main antagonist in a dancing game.

To be fair, there's a nugget of truth in there - FE's never had supermassive success until recently, and most of the characters they have included were just swordsmen rather than exploring the full move possibilities of the setups in FE. But like people said, FE finally getting that success should have meant people braced themselves for this.

Did it start with Hero? Because, again, Hero's reveal was offset by Banjo and Kazooie. Both Hero and Terry had mitigating characters to divert the hate a bit. Cuphead, while a nice inclusion, is nowhere near as powerful as Sans + Megalovania was.

I only saw a few amount of that done with Terry, and it is mostly done with a joking manner like replacing that with the text on his hat. All I saw is mostly fan-art and "Terry is just hat Ken" jokes.

That and "Goku made it into smash, guys!" jokes.
Forgot about that one, the amount of jokes and art with Hero and Goku was good.

Things will calm down in a few days, they always do. We'll get a more accurate read on their popularity when people calm down about the generic blue haired swordsman and the bandwagoners that suddenly love Byleth get bored. There's still six more characters to bitch about.

I can't wait to see when the inevitable Pokemon announcement comes and people just memory hole what happened with Byleth and be hype about it because fuck you that why.

At the stage we're in, basically right after the direct ended, hoes mad terry memes and tweets were fairly common. Especially because Terry is a well liked character within the fighting game community so you got the whole FGC vs Smash stuff going on alongside the fan bases butting heads. I remember this because I was laughing at them because I find overreactions like this fun, same with Byleth. Fire Emblem 3 houses is currently a well liked and popular game, and was the most voted game at the game awards, so their are just flat out more people talking right now then say people who liked or care about Fatal Fury.

Hero was probably the worst of it because of him being announced at E3 and people being just that pissed because he was an anime sword dude that looks even more generic then Byleth at a glance. It was also the funniest because that mix of Hoes mad and the DQ theme is great. I also remember some outrage with Joker because "Joker isn't a Nintendo character, where is Geno/Waluigi REEEEEEEEEEEE" was going on like every announcement.

It's way more than 6, do you think they're just going to allow their gravy train to run dry?

They're in a position where they're going to need to release a whole new system in order to handle ports that come over from the PS5 or they won't have third party support at all. You're going to get a Deluxe Edition of Switch Smash brothers which was just a deluxe edition of the Wii-U one. They're going to have people spend a full 60 on the base game+DLC all over again just to buy more DLC for whatever comes after the Switch.

People forgot the fact that Hero was not designed for the western market, it was for the japanese, the reaction of his announcement on Smash was insane on the JP gaming scene it was Banjo tier of hype

Rather bold assumption considering that continuing the game's development is all Sakurai's decision and not Nintendo's.
