Super Smash Brothers 6 Speculation Thread

Now that Smash Ultimate is finished let's discuss our hopes and expectations for Super Smash Brothers 6.

Personally I would like to see more Nintendo characters in the game, as opposed to third-party characters. Characters like Waluigi, Geno and Midna would all be pretty cool.

Obviously the online component needs improvement, but considering Nintendo's track record with online multi-player I doubt they will bother fixing it.

Finally I would like to see the return of a big story mode like Brawl had. It was so ambitious and blew my mind as a kid.

What do you guys think?

>expectations for Super Smash Brothers 6.

More of exactly the same shit that's existed in every other super smash Brothers game.

>hopes

Doesn't go back to brawl's every character is basically the same weight and strength bullshit

Otherwise, other than having more things in it in every successive game and fancier graphics, SSB games are all pretty much the same shit.

There's already so many new characters in it compared to when I used to play the 64 one and melee I don't even really care who they add. Every character my childhood self would have added are in the game now. I only played ultimate a few times at a friend's place and every time we played we were fucking unlocking characters left and right. There's so many as it is. I guess just slap some more in there and call it a new game I guess.

Since it obviously won't have as many characters as Ultimate I think they'll have to go a different route to improve the gameplay. One thing I would like to see is the Kazuya style inputs applied to every character, that is, new moves for diagonal and backwards tilts. It would make up for the lack of characters with some depth that also would help set it apart from the rest of the series.
Maybe the majority of Smash players are reluctant to change, I don't know. But it worked well when Melee added side specials.

I'd definitely be fine with a quality-over-quantity theme. Melee is still extremely popular and it has a pretty small roster.

I really dislike how excessively large the rosters are in the more recent games. I know Ultimate's whole shtick was "EVERYONE IS HERE!", but it makes it really apparent that the games were more fun with a more contained roster. A future game should take notes from Brawl. It was the peak of SSB in terms of features, it didn't feel gimped despite having a smaller roster than the following titles. (The gameplay is a different story, they could alter that.)

Just give me the most autistic Subspace Emissary possible, like have it open with an epic battle between Sephiroth and Minecraft Steve and make it increasingly autistic from there. I want the most autistic possible campaign, as this is the most autistic series in the world.
Too bad Nintendo are little bitches about having a mode like SSE be in any future titles because "THE CUTSCENES WILL LEAK ONLINE NO SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!"

Can it go back to being mute? I can't perceive the level of Pooh's Adventure cringe that would arise if they gave that shit dialogue. Anyway, another subspace emissary-type story could work although I would prefer it if they didn't do the whole trophy thing and just have the characters get knocked out when defeated.

That's the kind of shit I've come to hate about Nintendo. Its ridiculously petty and needlessly denies people some unique moments and potential memes.

I think the roster has gotten way too large and has too many pointless characters, like FE clones/echos, too many 3rd parties, or characters that don't do anything interesting or unique when they could just be alternate skins, like Dr. Mario, Toon Link, Young Link, etc, or making characters that were split into single fighters again like Samus and Zelda to try and prune the roster. One of the things I like about the series is how it took relatively obscure and forgotten characters in the west like Pit, FE characters (which looking back now was probably a huge mistake for not just smash but for FE too), Game&Watch and ROB (and I guess BanjoKazooie to a lesser degree since it always had a strong fanbase) and made them relevant again. Kind of hoping they go back to focusing on 1st or 2nd party ips or Nintendo exclusives and dig up some long dead characters to revive, like the other racers from F-Zero, Onigashima's lead duo or Ayumi Tachibana. Overall, I just dislike the popularity poll aspect of it and just want to see random characters nobody expects be thrown in with fun movesets rather than hear about how shocked everyone is that another popular IP or Master Chief made it in.

As for 3rd parties, I would honestly prefer to see Sony and Microsoft make their own smash clones (like a better version of Playstation All Stars Battle) and bring back some of their forgotten IPs for those again. I guess one autistic thing they could do is have Nintendo develop the clones and allow for some sort of compatibility so players can fight characters from the Playstation and Xbox games in online matches. But sadly there's way too many things standing in the way to keep that from ever happening.

Another change I'd like to see is how they handle stages. I honestly hate how most stages are just floating platforms that travel around a non-interactive backdrop.
Don't forget Megamind.
Throw in Shrek and Goku while you're at it.

I think they just need to take notes from what made the first 3 games great. You still see odd clones and such in those, but the worst it ever got was Mario and Dr. Mario being in the same game. Many of the current clones could just be an alternate costume.

As for 3rd party additions, I think they got insanely trigger happy with them. Brawl even failed on that front. Sonic is a good choice, but Snake (despite playing very fun) is a strange choice to put it nicely. NOW they just let any random character off the street into their game, I don't mind characters that are iconic or have substantial gaming history, (Sonic + Ryu are the first two that come to mind) but then they add people like... Joker from Persona 5? I don't think that works.

I see either two paths.

One they reboot entirely and cut down to a core cast.

Or they go full "game as a service." Release Smash 6 as a launch title of the next console and add characters/stages and the like through the entire life cycle of the console.
As much as GaaS is a concept I usually hate, considering how it gets implemented half the time, doing that with Smash on whatever Nintendo puts out after the Switch might be the easiest way to not have Sakurai work himself to death - seriously, that guy needs a damn break. Just slowly pumping out new content over the lifespan of the console - it's not like Smash isn't just Nintendo's best marketing tool at this point anyway.

Though yeah, the roster needs some serious cuts - why are there that many Pokémon and FE reps, and I say this as someone who likes both those series...

It'd be great though, crossover shit like that is at least entertaining almost all the time.

I am of the opinion that the roster as of ultimate is fine.

"Why are there so many pokemon reps"
"Why are there so many Fire Emblem reps"

because they are both series that release new games full of new characters every generation. Unlike Mario and Zelda franchises who have the same character base. Fire Emblem specifically has so many reps because they had characters who replaced other ones. Such as Ike completely replacing Roy. I despise GaaS as well, however Smash Brothers akin to League of Legends where 90% of the point is "Who will come out next."
