Apologies if this was already discussed elsewhere (I checked this thread and did not see it mentioned).

Was there discussion of letting users pay for adding new custom Smilies to the site? Similar to what SA did or does. Note that I am not talking about reactions/likes images. I have no opinion on cost or rules around what Smilies would be accepted.
 
We've had the same smilies for a long time. It's not easy for us to accept payments so I haven't really set up SA-style monetization features at all.
 
I was thinking of people using existing methods of sending money instead of something automated.

As for accepting payments, my impression was that what obsdj did with digital Amazon giftcards was an easy and anonymous way for you to receive money. Did I get something wrong or is that just not the preferred way because you don't have flexibility of how to spend the Amazon card unless you take a hit on a "gift card to cash" conversion service?

I don't have any smilies I'd recommend adding right away. This is just an idea for the future and for other folks who may be interested in getting something for further contributions.
