There is already a thread on times that you've changed your mind on political issues, but I thought a separate thread might be more appropriate to dive in a little more in-depth about how your opinions have shifted from one side of the political spectrum to the other and evolved over time.

So my question is basically this, have you ever switched from Democrat to Republican or vice versa, and what made you change your mind?

Discuss.

For me, being raised liberal but not necessarily indoctrinated into liberal thinking, I was a liberal for most of my life. It all changed in 2018 when I watched the Russia Collusion narrative evaporate before my eyes, having realized I was lied to by the mainstream media for two years, and around this time I was watching Steven Crowder's Change my Mind videos. Specifically the ones about abortion and gun rights is what really crystalized the notion that 'holy shit, could I have been wrong about everything'? And indeed I was.

After that I decided to start re-examining all the positions I had on different political issues over the years and I started to realize just how wrong I was on basically everything. I use to think that taxes weren't a problem, that illegal immigration was a non-issue, my thinking was 'well they're here illegally but as long as they don't cause trouble just leave them alone' has now become 'holy shit we majorly fucked up on immigration and have been fucking up for the last 50 years'. Almost every single position I held as a Democrat flipped to Republican. Gay rights, abortion, gun rights, immigration, taxes, welfare, everything.

PS, this isn't a thread to argue for or against any political position, just to tell stories.

I still think I'm politically roughly the same as I've always been, it's just the world and society that keeps changing their mind. I'm not going to alter my positions just because everyone else is dumb.

It's been said a few times but realistically KF is surely completely full of people who 15 years ago considered themselves moderate democrats and nowadays are considered far right chuds since the narrative and political priorities of the democratic party have completely shifted.
Blue went from being mainly pro-working class with a side order of identity politics, to mainly identity politics with a little bit of token "eat the rich" thrown in there just for show between ordering doordash and buying the newest model of iPhone.

Workers rights, environmentalism, tax distribution, anything corporations would find troublesome has been tucked away in the back to let to retarded bullshit take center stage, bullshit which sets regular people bickering and where regardless of which side wins it won't threaten the immediate status quo. Funny how that works out.

It's a well-worn truism that most people get at least somewhat more conservative as they grow up. Though really, politics is a game for sociopaths and there are no real "sides" when it comes to those who actually have the wherewithal get elected or take power in whatever other way. For the most part, true believers in anything tend not to have much more influence than they can glom onto in smaller fiefdoms they erect around themselves.

I've become entirely disillusioned with both major American political parties. It seems both are spearheaded by an affluent boomer class who, after failing to achieve immortality, are content with robbing, plundering and decimating American citizens during one final entitled temper tantrum.

At this point the only politicians I feel comfortable voting for are highly local ones that are able to lay out clear and actionable goals for my community. Further those politicians are actually affected by their actions and are not faceless suits living hundreds of miles away from me.

Initially, I was pro-isolationism. Now, I know that the pajeet menace cannot be simply contained in its countries of origin. They must be fully purged from the earth to save mankind from being drowned in a tidal wave of piss and shit.

Politically, I guess this places me around Andrew Jackson but for dot Indians instead.

More just realized both sides suck rather than joining the other team. Don’t know about other countries politics but in terms of the US it’s just a choice between who’s getting to bend you over and the other side will always get next turn anyway

i was a liberal democrat as a younger, more ignorant man. before i understood that ideals are just another form of useless navel-gazing. over time, it became impossible to square those ideals with the patterns of behavior i began to notice. liberal strongholds becoming lawless shitholes overrun by the homeless, lgbtq weirdos fixating on children and becoming more emboldened in their debauchery, the exact same demographics being responsible for most of the violent crime year after year, etc. to be woke is to willfully ignore and condone these things, and i'm not one for entertaining delusion. i've been a republican ever since.

i appreciate that trump isn't everyone's cup of tea, but consider who his loudest detractors are: the delusional losers and creeps that want debauchery and lawlessness to continue being the status quo. fuck that and fuck them.

I used to be an active communist in college but stopped after the communist sources I'd read would routinely defend Islamic terrorism and said the Charlie Hebdo people deserved it. I still voted for Bernie Sanders in 2016 though because he seemed like he was right about the economy, but I came to think Trump wasn't so bad either with what he was doing, which somehow makes me a literal SS member following my Orange Fuhrer. It really didn't help that the Democrats were increasingly batshit insane since Trump started campaigning. I have never voted for another Democrat since Bernie Sanders, and I don't plan on it.

Most importantly, I gradually realized that we already had socialism in the US thanks to FDR. And not just that, we had socialism that worked in the 1950s and early 1960s which produced the most prosperous society in all human history before the Vietnam War and Ronald Reagan and neocons helped kill it before Bill Clinton buried it. Why would we need more socialism, let alone the bureaucratic nonsense version the progressives want? Turns out, the people who are best working to bring us back to that old model aren't the so-called Democratic Socialists of America or progressive leftists but the "far-right."

I was once a super left leaning sjw when I was still a minor.
It was after that I’ve become adult and mature a lot that I start to rethink and shift more to the right, specially in the recent years.
The “social justice” left I once known and lean on has already died and transformed itself into communism in 2020.
Yet I was still too young to realize it at the time.

The past 4 years of seeing the whole world slowly gone to shit by commie fags was the final straw for me.
Never in my life have I seen so many commie bots in the internet spamming and openly chanting killing white people,Americans and sperging how great communism/communist countries is and somehow never gets banned.

When I grew up, I learned that America was evil and that voting is retarded. I've changed since then, I hate America and it's modern values even more these days.
