Infected Sword Enthusiasts - folded up to a million times!

They should just get this and call it a day.

I kinda wish switch blades were legal. Just because.

Actually in most states switchblades are legal and you can carry them so long as they aren't "concealed". So if they have a pocket clip and your shirt doesn't cover it up it isn't considered concealed. But if you just want to own one to have as a collectable it usually isn't an issue. Do an Internet search on your local knife laws.

As far as swords go, growing up most of the guys I knew who were obsessed with swords, especially katanas, weren't in to anime, they were in to Highlander. There wasn't a whole lot of anime when I was a kid. Mostly it was Speed Racer, Robotech, and DBZ. Anime didn't start to boom until I was in high school. And of course none of them actually read up on the historical aspects of the swords, why they were designed the way they were, etc., they just bought into whatever pop culture spoon fed them and what they considered the "best" sword was whichever one they considered the coolest looking.

Also, as far as folded steel goes, before the 1800s most steel was folded. The folding part was how you added carbon to the iron and turned it into steel. If you want to see a truly impressive ancient steel look into historical Damascus steel. The ancient way of making that has been lost to the ages, though there are a few historical metalurgists and sword smiths who have been trying to authentically recreate it.

Yeah, to be fair to katana spergs, the blades are aesthetically pleasing and even beautiful in some ways. I'm not sure why they have to spoil it by poncing around their mom's garden, flailing them about like an idiot.

In the city there is a bunch of vendors in the markets that just sell swords. In a country that has no tolerance for guns and weapons. Doesn't stop glitzy weebs and asians from spending hundreds on a fancy blunt piece of metal, though.

I've never seen a normal local buy one, the vendors all look uninterested, they're not practical, people don't need swords and they were manufactured in the 90s and they have probably been trying to pawn them off for years.

A few years ago a bunch of Hobbit swords were produced and everyone wanted some elven sword or hobbit dagger hanging on a wall or looking sharp on their side table. All of them are horible, gimmicky shitty knives.

I can't seem to find this footage, but supposedly in Germany, some guy was surrounded by police. The man had a katana and embarrassingly enough, a police officer used a broom against him by sweeping the hell out of him. Then all the officers tackled him like seagulls feasting on one fish.
I remember hearing a similar story about a guy who murdered his wife with a Samurai sword and then wandered the streets yelling "I'M IMMORTAL!!!!!!!" before he eventually got into a standoff with police and was detained using riot equipment.
here's video of the incident, there's no audio but it captures the spirit of the moment quite well I assume.

Did the police hose him? :story:

Ladder > Sword

Any time I see somebody dual-wielding two katanas, I cringe. At least the kid who chops up water bottles has the sense to use a daisho.

This crazy retard in the ninja clothes tried to tame mongooses, I shit you not. All that twirling leaves so many openings it's like a day at the range.

He spends his days warring against the haters on his youtube channel, and making videos of him cutting water bottles as to prove the superiority of glorious Nippon steel.

These sword "enthusiasts" aren't actually looking for a high-quality blade, they just want something that looks cool. Earlier in the thread @Vitriol went over the three types of sword enthusiasts: Cutters, Collectors and Fencers. Of the three Collectors are the only ones who do their research and buy expensive yet high-quality antique or custom/production models. Of course, they only display their swords, they don't run around in their backyards cutting everything in sight.

It makes sense too; if you spent hundreds (usually thousands) of dollars on an antique or high-end sword, you're not going to dull or damage it by actually using it. So everyone who makes videos probably uses crappy cheapo swords.

most of the swords capable of being used safely (and the ones in most of these videos) are $150-350. Bear in mind low end katana's are also the cheapest style. But yeah you've got it.

Most fencers typically have one mid-high end sword but they tend to be display pieces or curiosities.

If these people love Japanese swords so much, why dont they get into kendo? Sure a bamboo sword like a Shinai maybe a little less...flashy. But it's certainly better then posting edgy, shit on youtube and them acting like monkeys, instead of respecting the blade. Heck, they could go into Iadio, if they wanted to use a metal blade. But alas...autism.
As it turns out, sword sports involve more than just whacking at each other with weapons.

That's not even the issue, I fear. If you'd teach them super-kewl special moves with fancy names that require shouting garbled japanese for a minute and a half before striking, these people would eat it up in a heartbeat. Especially when you market it as some sort of super-secret handed-down-for-generations bullshit.
