As many people have pointed out these types of people, especially katana fanatics, love collecting these swords as to not only impress their friends but to also feel like a badass when they unsheathe one.
Of course, as the pictures seen on this thread has indicated. It only makes you look like an idiot.
There was a particularly funny story that I found on the weeabootales section of reddit, in which a martial artist was doing a panel in a convention about different types of weapons and how to use them correctly. Of course, there has to be that ONE GUY who has rant about how katanas are better than any other types of swords. Let's just say it didn't end nicely for our katana sperg.

I deleted it, this thread seems to have a problem with people wanting to defend or just argue about swords and shit so I'm deleting that kind of stuff when I see it. We're supposed to be talking about flailing retards.
