It's interesting to see how badly they're covering up the income, which gives me the idea that yeah the real runners of the show are cagey about their earnings. Likely because if the "players" knew how much was available (4.5 million per year), they'd ask for more. Especially the shitty celebrity cameos they do.

4.5 million per year off twitch subscriptions alone, from what I understand. It doesn't account for donations, merch, sponsorships, ad revenue, or... youtube. (Admittedly, it also doesn't account for California taxes.)

Seriously, their Youtube numbers must be bonkers. They are, to my knowledge, the only channel out there that produces multi-hour content with over a million views, and near-100% engagement from the people watching. It's the kind of content Youtube salivates over. Look at that steady yearly growth line:

So yeah. Those 9 million over two years? They're just one piece of the pie. Even more, it's likely backloaded. So they're making even more now than the average would indicate. That's some success, my friends. And the fanboys are screeching about how they must still be poor starving artists because they have people to pay and space to rent.

That thread on dm academy is just a lot of people trying to justify them spending their money on them saying that at this point they are their own company. I will be honest I am not surprised at how much money they are making, I always knew they were big even though they always kind of acted like they were the under dogs. I would like to see their revenue numbers and how much they are paying people though.

Critical Role is a bad reality television and podcast hybrid masquerading as DnD. Considering it's popularity I'm not surprised at how much those louts make. I just wish it would all go away.


Zak Sabbath, despite getting me tood still refuses to acknowledge the circumstances that led to him being canceled was caused by his dumb SJW purity tactics. Considering how he was dragged through the mud his lack of self awareness is breathtaking. Cancelling will not stop until people like him stop cancelling people he disagrees with.

The worst that happened so far was they kicked a guy off for allegedly rigging dice rolls. This. CR has bred a new generation of shitty 5E players with unrealistic expectations, but that is easily solved by running systems that aren't 5E. I'd take overproduced scripted tabletop sessions over Twitch thots and hypocritical socialist grifters like Hasan any day.

The issue I had with this is as a GM is the vast majority of these fairweather philistines just want to play 5E and nothing else. Traveller doesn't have a reality show with obnoxious voice actors who enable their freakshit. And it's more systems driven and sandboxy so they can't just demand "heckin epic adventures.". I was lucky to convince my group to play B/X. But that came after months of being forced to play 5E. Knowing I wouldn't be able to find a group of relativly sane people again if I alienated them.

I will admit. A lot of Zack's LotFP splatbooks were actually quite good. When he shuts the fuck up and just makes something it can be quite good and creative. But after a while he seems incapable of shutting up. Every fucking thing he writes now from his blog to the work Raggi the Kissarse hands him has to professedly pronounce his innocence and how much of a good boy he is. So uncancel him. We on this forum should all know. I'll let you in on a secret after working with someone just like Zak. No SJW is a true believer. Not really. I'm sure they've convinced themselves they are. But SJWs call each other out all the time. SJWs are all inherently insecure that someone will figure out they're a grifter so latch on to any opportunity to destroy the competition. Cancelling is a tool to destroy rivals and competition. Zack's belief that he should be uncancelled so he can go back to cancelling other people is proof of this. If he truly believed he wouldn't have defended himself. He would've fell on his sword even if the accusations were false. Because that's what a true believer does. So the Twitch Leak is 2 years of payment to the associated user ID. This JUST twitch payments - so this is after Twitch's 50% or more cut, but before taxes (unless they requested (or had requested for them) IRS withholding. Which I think they won't do unless court-order because its all 1099).
For individuals, anything not written off or deducted will get slammed for full fed & state taxes which can be 50% or more. For a business entity like CR, that 9 mil is probably not getting much tax melt since they are probably able to write off or pass-through everything.

Lots of foreign twitchers have very low numbers because they use a non-twitch processor for stream donations.
I don't even know if CR takes in-stream donations

I have a friend who watches some streamers, and when the leak hit their response was "Yeah so? I make money. Yeah, that's legit, here look, you can see the payment confirm from twitch. That's what I make. You guys buy a lot of subs." because their "brand" is being entertaining. They never beg or plead poverty or talk about eating the rich.
Its people like DSP & Hassan who are sobbing about how hard it is to make rent while clearing a quarter of a mill a year who are caught with their pants down.

Critical Role always played themselves as an underdog without actually quite going to poverty begging; "Oh click and support our stream! Buy from our sponsors! Send us free fan art!" and its interesting to see them scramble like a roach now that lights are on.
