You're right and I should have clarified that in my summary above: WotC isn't just D&D and D&D is the small money in that equation.
Also the main thing that got the Hasbro activist guy all up in arms wasn't so much the raw dollars that WotC's products were pulling it, it was the margins.
tl;dr is a PHB retails for like $50 MSRP but costs less than $5 to make & ship, including the (increasingly fractional) costs to pay the writers and artists. A set of virginity talismans Magic cards has similar numbers for profits. So due to corpo wisdom, if you cut production costs in half, and make twice as many things to sell, you'll quadruple your profits!

After raising $7,549,241 for a Kickstarter, popular tabletop game Battletech announced they were shipping Battletech: Mercenaries, a box set of 50 minis. For those not in the loop, current publisher Catalyst Game Labs has run into some controversy in the last few years and months, such as:

The first warning signs came with the announcement that another game, Encounters, was released to Barnes and Noble before it hit the official store to appease the "distributors", which elicited an apology from Rem. This was followed by the disaster of an interview I previously mentioned, confirming the suspicions of many skeptical and alienated Battletech players. However, that all pales in comparison to recent events, because it now seems that people are being charged fifty to hundreds of dollars for shipping those small mech minis.

Now remember, people pledged hundreds, if not thousands of dollars individually, and now they are being charged high shipping costs for these high dollar items. The wonderful true and honest woman* that manages the community has stepped forward and made this announcement:

Doing some more digging, the community manager I was making fun of, Rem Alternis, did a recent interview. As a reminder they look like this:

Is Catalyst Game Labs fucking over their customers on purpose? Is it incompetence? Who knows, because the last update on the Kickstarter was the one posted on the 29th of March, with no official update since then. I may not be a PR expert, but this is probably not the Easter weekend to take more days off on.

I think this will kill off a lot of goodwill that Catalyst still had.

Hilariously, the point of E20 is that it's supposed to be a universalist take for the system; they want it to be able to cover as diverse a range as GI Joe to My Little Pony.

Isn't that what the original OGL was about? My knowledge of this comes from the Counter Monkey videos, but he complained about things like a WWF RPG and basically every other licence getting a shitty half-arsed D20 version, even if it made no sense. He also talked about long-time friend of the Snipe and Wib channel, Longfang, buying him Transformers in a very 'My wife's boyfriend lets me play Nintendo Switch' type way, but maybe that's just me.

Anyway, this is what he used to look like, compared to what he looks like now.

If that's all it was, I'd agree with you.

But it's the combination of things.

It's the growing out of his hair.
It's the smug, self-congratulatory leftist politics.
It's the Space Marines painted in tranny colours.
It's the seething about TERFs unprompted in their Squats video.
It's the nail polish.
It's having a wife who is already a fat she/they.

And, most damningly for me, it's the friendship with this guy. David J Bradley - 'your aro/ace enby uncle'.

A man who frequently shows up in the comments section of Snipe and Wib's videos, as well as even collaborating to their videos on occasion, and who, and I don't think it's just me here, gives off very 'off' vibes.

To paraphrase that bit in The Witches - 'None of these things is every any good on it's own. It's only when you put them all together that they start to make a bit more sense.'
