While the real solution is of course DON'T PLAY CONAN but even in Howard's stories the vast majority have some woman kept on the arm against her will by evil warlord/sorcerer/pirate and all the non-consent that implies.

Conan had a lot of slavery (As was common at the time) and a lot of arm-candy waifus in various levels of distress. But there were also lots of strong women who while thirsty were in complete control of their sexuality. Its just in the stories when it came to rape there was a lot of fade-to-black before things got much further than the implication.
The simple presence of these things will give most from modern soyciety the vapors, but yeah its not the wall-to-wall rape fest and women as sextoys/rewards that pearl clutchers paint it as.

So if you had to AGAINST YOUR WILL play Conan anyway I could understand why the SA and horror elements and various taboo concepts that are verboten to modern audiences like sl*very and hecking r*cism could be awkward.

I wouldn't play with someone who would disrupt the game over being truthful to the source material, which is hardly problematic. Hell, even the best known pop culture Conan played by Arnold had slavery in its opening scene, but maybe it's okay if it's a Teutonic muscle dude.

Now, imagine trying to play Stormbringer with one of these pearl-clutching tards. The two lead civilizations (who everyone wanted to play) both had cultures based on torture, slavery, rape, sexual sadism, and all kinds of other horrors. (Basically if you don't know the Elric lore it's to normal sword and sorcery what spaghetti Westerns were to Westerns.)

I didn't play it as close to the source as I could, because it could easily go grimderp in a not fun way, so I lightened it up a bit with campy bullshit and slapstick humor. Players helped out, too, with things like the running gag of how the instant they got whatever McGuffin they were looking for, they immediately started murdering each other in a Battle Royale over who got to steal it.

Since every PC was at the very least a murderhobo and more often an outright over-the-top Adam West Batman villain, this came naturally.

That said, though, there's a lot of horrific content in it even played with a lighter tone and even one hypersensitive troon would fuck up the entire game. And that's a problem with TTRPGs in general. All it takes is one dickhead to bring the entire game to a screeching halt and be a total buzzkill to everyone else.

Cater to them and you're ruining one of the classic works of sword and sorcery lit. That's because these people don't want to play. They don't want anyone to have fun. Their whole IDEA of fun is moaning and complaining and making sure everyone is as miserable a son of a bitch as they are.

You'd really have to go to something like the Gor RPG to get that kind of shit but there you almost have a different issue where I wouldn't want to play RPGs with anyone so degenerate they even WANTED to play a Gor RPG.

I can't think of a single time where it even went that far. I know there was a wizard that was making it clear he planned to rape a princess but that was as far as that went. There was also the time Conan chased after Ymir's daughter but he was being affected by her power and again, there's no "I'm going to rape you, woman!"

Conan also offered to free a woman in return for sex, but ends up letting her go off without fucking her because Conan makes it pretty clear that only beta male cucks have to resort to rape.

I think the reason they hate Conan is precisely because he actually is a hero who mainly uses his alpha male traits of physicality to defeat his environment and the villains in it. (Somewhat ironic since Robert E. Howard was a weirdo introvert with a bizarre almost Norman Bates-like relationship with his mother but that's an issue for another time.)

I don't think it's ironic at all, Conan was his power fantasy. He was physically powerful, intelligent, and traveled the world to experience all these different cultures and adopting positive traits from them to make himself an even greater person while rejecting the parts he saw as weak and harmful. He was the ideal man.

I played that RPG for a couple of sessions, a friend of mine loves the old stories and wanted to give it a try. The character I randomly rolled up was a black cannibal that worshiped some demon and threw spears at things. He was a walking X card violation so I feel like they slapped that little blurb in there to make people shut the fuck up. Given em an inch...

I've said this before but the X card isn't a bad idea at his core. I've played games with a lot of randos at Gencon in the past and as you'd imagine there are a lot of deranged retards. I think it's assumed that the sterotype of some greasy piece of shit staring at some girl showing up to a game and saying something like, "Oh... Susie the Sorcerer is paralyzed... I uh... have my with her..." is something of a myth but it's really not. A downside of the hobby is that it attracts some of the most degenerate and unlikeable faggots out there so when some 14 year old girl wants to play the fun game on Critical Role it's probably a good thing she knows she has a rule in place to tell someone to shut the fuck up.

The problem is that now that idea has been warped into being used for anything and everything that could piss a tranny off. I wouldn't be surprised that a troon would X right back for not respecting his rape gender or something.

Incidentally this is why I don't generally approve of cons that cater to both adult degenerates and minors. They just shouldn't be mixed. Anyone GMing at a con where minors attend should be carefully vetted and so far as I can tell they don't even vet for whether someone is a registered sex offender.

This "X-card" thing, it's basically a blanket rule that someone can just "play an X-Card" and say something can't be in the game because they're not comfortable with it.

So could I just pick it up and say "I'm not comfortable with they/them non-binaries" or "the gender stereotypes involved in the trans movement" and that wouldn't be allowed to be part of the game world?
