Per CNN:

A major earthquake with a magnitude of 7.4 struck off Taiwan’s eastern coast Wednesday, according to the US Geological Survey, prompting tsunami warnings in southern Japan.

The quake’s epicenter is located about 18 kilometers (11 miles) south of the city of Hualien.

The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued a tsunami warning for Miyakojima and Okinawa islands, warning of waves up to 3 meters expected imminently.

This is a developing story and will be updated

The ring of fire is fucking crazy, really puts into context how insignificant we are amongst other things.

Been watching aftershocks and some of the damage photos, shit's insane. Absolutely constant major aftershocks (magnitude 5 and even 6).

Shit was pretty wild. Fortunately the mountain range down the middle of Taiwan dampened it for the western side.

They are saying it's the strongest earthquake in Taiwan since 1999.
I took this from the NHK website.

Can anyone imagine being in the upper floors of this building?

China waiting with bated breath to start the invasion.
That was my first thought, but I don't think this will kickstart the Chinese invasion. Naval landings take months (years) of planning, and troops/equipment/vehicles need to be prepared well in advance for an assault.

If the PRC were to invade Taiwan tomorrow, it's either the most fortunate eve of attack in history, or a rushed job.
