Take three.

Our last host was at a gesture of good will from OdiliTime and Drybones, two developers in the Sapphire Group. This was a temporary lease, so I was in a hurry to unburden myself from them.

We're now on yet another host but I'm more optimistic about this than I was this time two weeks ago. I think we're in good hands, but who knows. I'm doing routine backups as always so we'll never lose data again.

If you notice bugs let me know.

P.S. The song playing during downtime was "Dummy!" from the Undertale OST.

How expensive would it be to build your own hosting service?
I imagine it would be hundreds of thousands of dollars to build your own datacenter...

Are we still under constant DDOS attacks from the Sociopath Group or have the site's troubles been from other sources?
The issues with the last server was a combination of too fewer resources and too many people. We had 4 logical cores and 8 GiB of RAM as a container on a much larger server used by many people hosting many active services. This includes a sizable "Desustorage" that would sometimes have so much HTTP traffic it would lock out everything, as if it was under a heavy DDoS. That wasn't the usual case, the usual case was the PHP daemon locking up without reason or MySQL crashing. The environment was poorly configured and that was mostly my fault, but nothing I tried worked.

On Linode we had like 5 severs. Kiwi was 4 cores 4 gigs of ram, Lemon and Lime were both 4x4, Mango was 2x2, and Cherry was 1x1. PHP, Memcached, and MySQL were all on neatly separated virtual services. We had overkill on resources.

Now we're on 4 physical cores with 8 logical cores and 8 GiB of RAM. This should be enough. If it's not, we're not spending enough where I would be afraid of onlining a second server. The problem is that our new contract is RENT TO OWN, which means that we will (in a year's time) outright own this machine. This is great, and if they reject our hosting I can just pay outright and have the KF sent to me in a box, but setup costs are much higher -- about $200, just to get it up and running.

So we'll see how it goes.

This isn't going to end up short-lived again for whatever reason, is it? I just hope you have a plan B in the event we get Franc'd again.
I have more faith in this host than the French and my systems are better idiot proofed. I can't explain how for obvious reasons but it should work.
