I am not a UV or spray tanner myself but I am pretty familiar with the industry. Doubt I'll be much help but here's my two cents. Mild sperg warning.

I've heard a lot of claims that the lotions clients use help with their color, as far as UV tans. However these lotions can be very pricey. Designer Skin is a very popular brand, and I've heard a lot of praise for Hemp Nation tan extender (its also much cheaper). Personally, I use the tan extender daily just because it smells and feels nice.

For spray tans you obviously can't use lotion prior, but primer is recommended. Not sure about brand recs for primer, though. For spray solution, I've heard clients say the clear solution (it takes about 8 hours to a day to develop) looks less orange, but again, I have not spray tanned. This is in regards to VersaPro/Spa solution. On the flipside, VersaPros have like 3 different varieties of instant solution they can use, so I can't say which type your particular tanning salon could be using.
 
I've spend 2 hours everyday outside tanning for the past 2 months and it really worked a lot better than any other tanning thing I tried before.
Just taking my shirt off from 10-12 and sitting in a lawn chair facing the sun was enough to make my body produce plenty of melanin. I now have darker skin than my east Asian friends and I basically look Australian.
I still use mid level sun screen and rub some after sun lotion on my skin afterwards.
To prevent getting a heat stroke, I drink ice water and I use a garden hose to cool myself off.
It's probably autistic but hey, as long as it works

When I was a kid I got sick and had to recover using a tanning bed. One thing I found was that even small regular doses boosted my mood a lot; you seeing any benefits that way? Also don’t know if you’re a dude or a chick, but I’ve read that men can see great benefits in testosterone levels by getting some sun on their junk.

Yeah, it does because usually the weather here is kinda cold but the last 4 summers or so have been nice and warm with temperatures in the 90s or 100s °F.
I lost the covid blues you get from never leaving the house by tanning and now I'm doing some outdoor activity with a bunch of friends every weekend (like driving to a lake or playing batminton or something).
I'm a dude but I won't take off my pants to get some tan down there because I live in the suburbs and I would get arrested.

Fair play on keeping the salami under wraps. I think an open window may do the trick, but depending on how close your neighbors are or how weirded out any roommates or partners may get, YMMV
 
Thanks for the tip but I think I'm fine as is.
It's darker than the skin surrounding it anyway and I've heard that it's better to keep your junk cool.
Like, even African tribesmen who don't have indecent exposure laws wear some sort of leather or cloth around their waist.
There must be some reasoning behind it.
 
I've started incorporating sunmaxing into my wild swimming sessions. Feels good to be able to dry naturally and not be freezing, downing coffee trying to get feeling back to my hands. Never really thought about sunscreen, I just bought whatever had the highest SPF because I tan easily, and my experiences with sunburn are not something I ever wish to repeat.
 
i see a lot of you guys mentioning spf as far as sunscreen goes but not ppd/pa, the rating system for uva (spf is for uvb). Figured id throw it out there if anyone cares about that sort of thing.

I drove a couple of counties over to go to some privately run nude beach, went to a remote spot next to a tree and just chilled in the sun for like 2 hours. Actually feels very relaxing and it's less embarrassing than you'd think.
I hadn't considered it before because if you wanna tan your entire body, you would either have to go on a tanning bed or a registry, and I dont really like either of those options.
The way I did it seems the easiest to me.
 
I am far too Irish to be going outside in the sun without any kind of protection, thankfully I live in a place where we have a lot of fog in the mornings so my morning runs don't burn me to a baked potato. But in the past I've only put on sunscreen on sunny days where it's hot, when really you should put on sunscreen whenever the sun is going to be gracing your pasty form with its rays. I started using sunscreen more diligently after reading so many people here on the Farms saying it should be used all the time, that it's the best thing for anti-aging, etc.
And seeing the state of cows like Corissa and Anna O' Brian who look a decade (or more!) older than they are, that scared me into being a bit more careful about my own skincare.

I did go sunbathing at the beach today to maybe myself less mayonnaise-y, I seem to have survived un-burnt so I'd like to do that more often.
 
I'd highly suggest not sun tanning and just faking it. Jergens gradual tan is pretty fool proof for your body, and then use a bronzing gel on your face. No one has to know, and you'll prevent wrinkles, age spots, moles and skin cancer. Unless of course you want to look like a leather purse by 40.
 
Tanning is one of the worst things you can do to your skin. I've known several people who have used sun beds regularly, and they always end up looking considerably older than their years; even when they otherwise take good care of their health.

I think it's possible to get the emotional benefits of sun exposure without tanning, and if you really like the tanned look, you can always opt for a spray tan. It lasts about as long in many cases, and if it's done well most people won't be able to tell the difference.
