There’s already a Witchy Woman thread for us ladies, so why not one specifically for Tarot? Especially since every other Tarot thread on this site is completely dead.

What is Tarot?
As you all already may know, Tarot is a form of cartomancy. Some use it for dividination, others as a game (through analysis, interpretation…).
Either way, the decks are full of symbolism and narrative, with a collective meaning surrounding them.



What is this thread for?
This thread is about anything related to tarot. For example, favorite decks, spreads, any books or resources you found interesting…

I would also like to ask as ice breaker questions if you like tarot or not, if and when you started using it, if it has in any way impacted your life, if it’s a past-time, If you think it’s gay and retarded…! Anything is welcome.

I guess you could also ask for a reading. I’m sure we can do it better than those dividination threads on other image boards.

You never know! I urge you to try tarot if you enjoy cards, enjoy storytelling, art, or anything to do with discourse analysis/pragmatics/semiotics. I also know the Raider Waite was made with Hermeticism in mind, so maybe it’s interesting to people that like that. If you like Jung or any writers related to Jung, you will also find enjoyment in the Arcana. Tarot shows up in lots of Pop Culture, knowing about it could make you enjoy more other IPS.

Why Tarot?
There’s a million answers to that question.
I would love to hear other kiwis answers. Since Tarot is all about interpretation, it’s likely that we all have a different approach.
I think it’s best to view that variety as a good thing and a possibility to learn from each other rather than a dick measuring contest. Especially since this is the Salon. There should be no dicks here, hello?!!!

Personally, I consider tarot as much of a hobby as other card games and I think it’s a fun activity; it also gives me fresh and new perspectives to view events through.



I’m so eager to hear any responses that I don’t even mind all the puzzle pieces that await this message B)

Any suggestions to make the thread better are appreciated.

I've always been interested in the supernatural and occult and got into tarot a couple years ago thinking it'd be fun to learn since tarot and tarot themeing is so prevalent in pop culture.

I have a few decks but the main one I use is a basic Rider-Waite because I feel like it's the best one to learn with, get a feel for the vibes the cards are trying to convey.

I use a modern Marseilleish deck that shares a couple of major arcana features with Rider Waite but the numbered minor arcana are pip cards (court cards are still illustrated) which is the traditional style, RW came later. Ironically I find these easier to read than the illustrated RW style minor arcana. There is a lot more flexibility in the reading. I have a couple other decks that are cool to look at for the art but never really clicked.

I use Rider-Waite as well, so far it’s the only one I have, and I probably won’t use another one until I am a lot more acquainted with it. I also just really like all the symbolism and usage of color in RW.

I didn’t know about pip cards! That’s really interesting— Marseilles deck is also really beautiful, although I’m less cquainted with it.
After a short search, I just realized that the Spanish Card deck I’ve used all my life for games also has pip cards (court cards also illustrated).

That’s really cool, I can definitely see the appeal in that.

Im still a noobie tbh, so I think I want to become more acquainted to the “traditional”/“stereotypical” meaning of the deck I own, and then I’ll get more enjoyment out of leaning more on my own more personal interpretations. Ideally both, but having leeway for that personal message seems important. Otherwise it’s just following what others have already said.

To be clear it isn't the Marseilles deck, it just has more commonalities with that deck than Rider Waite. The art is really cool though by the Spanish artist Tomás Hijo who does prints from hand carved wooden engravings.

The witch communities on Reddit are fucking awful. It's brimming with troons and libtards.

I have one tarot deck. It's black and silver. I use it in rituals and workings. I don't use it for divination. Though, once in a blue moon, I do a one card pull.

It’s a cool thread, but I have to admit it’s not really my thing, since I don’t really believe in zodiac signs or astrology or anything like that. Nonetheless it’s cool that it exists.

That’s awesome. I usually do 3-5 card spreads, as well as one card pulls. I’ve done Celtic cross spreads and such, but I feel like I’m not quite there yet. It’s lots of message all the cards plus their combinations.

In that regard, it’s really like analyzing just texts, where extra meaning comes from the combination of chunks rather than just the sum of its parts.

I've been working off and on on a schizo collage style deck, I'm about half way through the major arcana

I don’t think so. Even if it did exist, it hasn’t been done by YOU, so honestly u should still do it if it’s what you want.


I think what does exist is a terf deck making fun of tranny related lolcows. I do remember seeing it on the farms, but it was just archived here, the actual artist wasn’t a farmer.

I also like art and have considered drawing a deck for funsies.

I have a faint interest in astrology. It can be fun to read about. But I’m not one of those women that’s like “Oh, you’re a Pisces? I can’t have a romantic relationship with you.”
Also, my own astrological sign seems to be controversial, and viewed negatively with people who are more into astrology.

I have my uses with Tarot. I personally lean more towards Lenormand, since it gives me more straight forward answers, as well as divination can.
I still had an experience with an old flame back in July, and I didn’t realize that my cards had mentioned him until a few days afterwards.

I have been considering getting my mother a tarot deck for Christmas this year, since the Lenormand deck is a little more complicated to understand, and she’s shown interest in the readings that I have received.

Out of the ones I've done, I most happy with how the three of swords came out. In general I'm fan of the sadboi cards like the three, nine and ten of swords or the five of cups, they're simple to understand and so evocative, and because I dealt with depression and anxiety for a while

I don’t really use them anymore, but I like collecting decks for their art. Those sometimes use different themes, so I’m not sure how useful they’d be for an amateur reader. My favorite is Yoshitaka Amano’s deck

Imo Rekieta's arc is the Tower incarnate despite the Lawtube/Justice association. And Bossman should be the Wheel of Fortune idk if I would personally include Kino Casino at all but if I did PPP might fit Justice.
