I had a Space Marine army years ago, and I got a few Tau model kits to build because I liked the way their tanks/mechs looked. Just painted them in the same colour scheme, no regrets.

Never did like them as an addition to the lore though, too good, even after Games Workshop pussied out and went "Oh but they totally have a caste system, isn't that grimdark?" Lol no.

Gonna be real, the Tau fit the general "each faction is fucking insane in their own unique way for surprisingly justified reasons, that both winds up screwing them over and bailing them out in equal parts" theme of 40k a whole lot better when they were straight up naïve idealists who were convinced beyond reason they were the protagonists of some Trek tier friendly and uplifting setting and not the edgelord nightmare of the 40k setting.
