Ya know, I'll never get why TFS.well..some of them..have this weird fanboner for Cell...because...Cell sucks as a villain. Let's think about it, he doesn't wanna take over Earth...he doesn't wanna become immortal and rule the galaxy...he doesn't wanna take over planets and re-sell them...he isn't a space Bounty Hunter like the guy from Super...he isn't a God-like Beerus who may get bored sometimes...He just wants to wreck everyone's shit and that's it.
He's theatrical which probably makes him fun to write.

Some of that stuff makes sense. I feel like that it could be like The Joker: no real grand goals other than just having their own brand of "a good time" As for theatrical, it could be like a heel in wrestling: there's a lot more fun in playing the villain because you can get away with more things, and you don't have to worry as much about breaking the rules. What's the saying? "It feels so good being bad" ?

It was everyone's first full arc aside from Kaiser who instead projects his daddy issues onto Gohan, so I think they're wearing their nostalgia goggles pretty heavily. I think that's part of the reason why they played it as straight as they did.

So did they actually BUY a studio or just rent one? Because obviously if its the former, they could just rent it out.

Because, in concept, he is the worst aspects of all of the characters. Allegedly - that is, this is what the narrative tells us - he exemplifies all of the characters he's a hodgepodge of if they were villains, so he has their personality traits, their strengths, and their weaknesses. In practice this isn't true and TFS plays it up way more than it's true in the anime, but 'the characters but they're evil' is usually the most popular villain in any story.

Ironically enough, Goku Black is literally a hodgepodge of some villains in many ways. Hell, the series even has fun with that fact in Xenoverse 2.

Pretty sure it was renting, because the patreon goal to get a studio was $10k a month and unless they're using that for mortgage payments, which I doubt a bank would accept, they're probably renting so later on they can move to a bigger place when they're more successful.

Doesn't look like that's in danger of happening any time soon though.

So I've been checking out Kirran / Grant streams to see if they make for good background noise streams while I phonepost, and who the fuck is Quinn and how did he get sucked into fold of TFS hanger-ons?

He's apparently been around for a couple of years. He's supposedly a lawyer and might be their "legal" department.

Which would be fine, except the Cell Saga was famously mishandled by several different editors, one of whom was infamous for butting in and telling people to change things he didn't like, even when he wasn't editor anymore.

First it WAS Gero and 19. "No!" Said the former editor, "it can't be a geezer and a clown." Then it was 17 and 18. "No!" said the editor, "it can't be a pair of teenage brats!" Then Cell came along. "No!" Said the editor "It can't be a bug, he looks disgusting!" And then 2nd form Cell was "ugly" before settling on Perfect Cell.

Anyone who follows Toriyama in his work behind the scenes might know that he hates being told what to do, and pretty much does the opposite of what he's asked if he can get away with it, like merking Vegeta near the end of the Namek chapter. Is it any wonder then, that Cell has showed up the least (barely) out of any other villain across the entire Dragon Ball mythos? He gets treated as some perfect villain, when he starts throwing tantrums when things don't go his way, completely losing his shit when he's oneupped.

He enjoys pulse-pounding fights and deliberately stupid gag twists. He actively enjoys fucking with expectations! Which is why I don't consider Kaiser to be as big of a fan as he says he is, especially when you've got him or any other fan going "TORIYAMA MADE A MISTAKE, it should have been LIKE THIS". Like, how egotistical can you be? Take it or leave it, jesus. (whch is only one reason why Buu Saga Gohan got clowned on so hard lol) Actually, a lot of what's wrong with TFS can be pointed right back at Kaiser, which is a shame because everyone else, from Lani to Taka to Megumi all have shown their love for the series in one way or another. Even Masako, who, while cringe, does have a rather intensive knowledge on obscure lore and has his own side projects. Kaiser is a drama queen that put the project in a stranglehold and deflected blame when rightly criticized.

New HFIL episode.
I was somewhat optimistic about their previous episodes, seeing potential there for the characters interacting and all the shenanigans they could have.
But this episode is by far the worst. Lots of gay jokes, Frog-Ginyu tries to rape Cell in his sleep, „Bussy“…I wonder when they‘ll introduce the inevitable episode about absent father-figures.
Also, Lanipator looks like shit.

I don’t agree, he’s maybe not as compelling as Frieza or Vegeta but he’s still a great villain in his own right, He has honestly probably the coolest and most varied villain design in the Manga, his first two forms are great with alien bug like design, and his final form is obviously the sleekest and most memorable and has a really foreboding presence about it. Cell doesn’t immediately want to conquer earth/ become a God/ rule the galaxy like that because that’s what makes him unique as a villain. He’s not evil simply for the sake of of being evil like most other DBZ villains. He has a superiority complex because of his design by Gero to be ‘the perfect fighting machine’

His name of ‘Perfect’ Cell is more than just a name it’s a summarisation of his central crux as a villain, Cell believes that he deserves to stand above others not because of hatred for lesser life forms in general, but because he is entitled to by his design it f being engineered to be the greatest fighter of the universe. He is literally a biological distillation of all the abilities of the Z fighters and past villains of the series. He has all their fighting styles, skills and best traits all rolled into one. Which is why he holds himself with such authority and his ‘perfect’ moniker. He was genetically engineered to be the best fighter in the galaxy, and in his mind no one can stand against him because of it. Cell is a great villain.

I'm just going to put this here because it just fits so naturally after what you just said.
