Yeah, the "Goku is a bad father" thing is overstated, but people wouldn't have latched onto that joke nearly as hard if there hadn't been a nugget of truth to it.

"Goku is dead" rings hollow when he spent 7 years in Other World by choice. He made some justification about bringing Earth bad luck. It doesn't seem to occur to him that there had already been threats to Earth that weren't specifically after him (Red Ribbon Army, King Piccolo etc.). I'm sure all the strong fighters in Other World had no influence on his decision....

As for "Goku runs a radish farm to provide for his family!", only because ChiChi practically browbeats him into it. Even then, he makes it clear that he hates every second of it, and ditches it at the first opportunity.

Goku isn't as bad a father as the jokes suggest, but he isn't amazing either. But what do I know? According to this "meme," I've never actually watched the show.
 
Just popping in to say that I hate TFS because they fucked up my favorite part of Hellsing, which is the Alucard vs Anderson fight, and replaced it with some shitty drawn-out skit that just REEKS of fedora-tipping.
I unironically think the series was kino up until that point, but they just HAD to shit themselves near the end.

That's such a great scene, and I really feel like the slackjob people at TFS that appeal to the jaded Reddit crowd feel like they needed to stop and think of what they've done.

Yeah Hellsing Abridged was good up until the moment Alucard had his therapy session with god. It's like TFS can't do an abridged series without taking themselves seriously as an attempt to be "legit"

I too think there were too many "bad father" jokes with Goku instead of more succinct "fightbrain retard" jokes.
The one thing TFS did excellent was portray Goku as stupid in that way, and not some superhero guy like the official dub makes him out to be. If they'd given him a hayseed Jethro Bodine accent, it would've been damn near perfect.
