Yugi: "Question?"

Princess: "Um, yes?"

Yugi: "Just what the hell are you anyway? Are you a boy or a girl?"

Joey: "Maybe it's a shemale. You know, like Bakura."

Mokuba: "Whatever it is, it's going to haunt my dreams for the rest of my life."

Princess: "Excuse me, brave heroes, I'm trying to tell you about the suffering of my people."

Yugi: "I think it's pretty obvious why your people are suffering. Their ruler is a transvestite."

Princess: "The only way to defeat the mythic dragon is by resurrecting the ancient flying machine which - "

Yugi: "Why weren't you censored anyway? I mean, what? Guns are bad, but cross-dressing princesses are a-okay?"
Rewatching YGOTAS with friends who've never seen it and got to this part. It's insane how, in the span of a few years, we've gone from being able to say this (on Youtube, no less) to obligatory troon worshipping at the workplace/school. Seeing it made me almost sympathetic to LK deciding to put up that disclaimer in the description to save himself from eternal cancellation.

From freedom of speech to freedom of the Internet to just what was considered a commonplace opinion back then, the contrast between recent past and present is astounding.

Oh yeah, I remember that joke lol. That feels more like an actual nudge-nudge to the Yu-Gi-Oh fandom in general. The arc is typically remembered fondly, but the princess being a genderswapped Mokuba was just so fucking bizarre that it definitely confused so many kids. Wouldn't be surprised if that was baby's first Rule 63 in all honesty (when you don't count Ash becoming "Ashley" for the Erika episode).

Made funnier by the fact you wouldn’t be able to point that out despite the fact that the princess looking like Mokuba is how the Princess avoids kidnapping and remains safe and how Mokuba gets back to his brother.

Not only is it wtf out of left field odd it’s a fucking plot point

Ya know, theres one thing that always kinda rubbed me the wrong way about HUA. When asked why Alucard acts like a gaggle fuck, the explanation TFS always gave how an explanation how he lived a long time and this is his defense mechanism. But like, we never see him at any point drop that facade and act seriously, he always keeps joking be it when Anderson dies or when he talks a Skype talk with God and Satan. Like, hell even Deadpool knew when to stop being joky and treat shit seriously.

If they said he had lost his mind, no one would've batted an eye. Nothing ever hinted at it being a defense (a.k.a. coping) mechanism, he's just a smarmy asshole and embraces it.

It kinda feels that explanation was made as trying to make it seem, how these guys totz understand how to write a deep character.

They tried to do that shitty Hollywood thing of "he's not evil, he's "traumatized" & shit" which leads to a lack of actually evil or villains in Hollywood nowadays & it shows.

I know cliches are impossible to avoid when telling a story, but they are easily avoided when you commit to better writing, but they are shit at writing (and also storytelling)

That's the odd thing, in the source material, he's more suicidal than traumatized. Like, he clearly had that phase, but eventually got over it and has been going through a "I want a worthy enemy to finally end my ass", but this is more in line with Alucard wanting to make a perfect death/defeat scenario for himself.

And that Piccolo also “ain’t the step dad. He’s the dad that stepped up”.

Also, before TFS, was Yamcha seen as a major joke in the fandom?
The death pose meme has been around for what feels like the entirety of the major internet itself. Shit is ancient and people still won't let it go.

They explained in their commentaries for DBZA that Taka loves putting a joke into scenes, even serious ones, and sometimes Lani and Kaiser have to push back on him. With Hellsing, however, he had way more freedom and was able to do the scenes how he wanted, especially since he was Alucard. And that works for the character, he's a comedic character who doesn't take anything seriously because he knows full well no one can stop him from doing whatever the fuck he wants.

I mean, that would work just fine, if they didn't try to them pull this flimsy "explanation" why he behaves like this. Why not just be honest and say "Guys, we aren't treating this shit seriously, c'mon"

Because Kaiser and Lani want to treat it seriously to prove they're better writers than the originals.

Huh, thought they'd scrapped this for HFIL. It's nothing great, a couple of jokes about how you have a young married couple with an active sex life living with one of the biggest pervs out there... and then not much. 18 is pregnant with her daughter and it's apparently been three years since the Cell Games. There's not much to it, all it does is make the viewer question why this version of 18 didn't just drop Roshi with Yamcha and claim the house for herself. They also bring up one of them getting a job but neither having any money, when they know two billionaires (Yamcha becomes one in episode four) who could either just hand over the cash or give them a job if they want to earn it.
