I remember looking at DBZA for the first time, looking through each of the episodes up until just after the Freeza saga, and thought they were funny.
Now I don't think it's nearly as funny due to the incessant amounts of inside jokes they wanted to create.

Some examples are: triangles into squares, Goku's a bad father (which they followed up with "Piccolo is Gohan's real father"), whatever they did that completely destroyed Cell as a character... and that's pretty much only from the Android/Cell saga, there's bound to be a lot more than that. Those jokes are spammed into too many comment sections.

The premise of the series is fine though, poking fun at DBZ for things it does too often/overlooks seems pretty fun.

I think TFS really did themselves in by leaning too far into DBZA to the point that pretty much everything else they did, even other abridged series, were overshadowed. It was just too popular and eventually, it hit them hard when they had to stop at episode 60 and watch the views steadily decrease. Even the DragonshortZ don't seem to be hitting the same highs, I heard those aren't too great in comparison to DBZA.

As uptight and autistically obsessed with perfection as KaiserNeko was when editing DBZA, the superb editing during the Frieza fight, the Android Saga and Cell Saga was one of my favorite aspects of the series. In almost every case, the editing was near-perfect. Except for the 2D animated scenes created specifically for DBZA. Those were usually not very good, imho.

The shift to 3D models for DragonShortz was a major turnoff to me. It feels about as cheap as a lot flash animation used in cartoons today. It feels comparable to older Tom & Jerry cartoons and the newer, awful crossover films.

These factors didn't help with other issues (e.g., the drop in writing quality with DragonShortz, relying too much on DBZA memes, and the burn out TFS felt by the end of the Cell Saga, etc.).

Sorta off-topic, but I confess that, until I did a side-by-side comparison yesterday, the part of my brain that recognizes peoples faces was playing me into thinking Russ and Kaiserneko looked like they were separated at birth.

Little Kuriboh, Lani, Taka and Kaiser were all in Xenoverse 2 as create-a-character voices, which is non-substantive and easy to miss.
The video games have little to no involvement from Toei, DB video games are fully Namco Bandai's domain. At most they're commissioned for game openings or cutscenes. There's that remake of that one special in Raging Blast 2 that has never been released on its own cause it's the property of Namco Bandai.

The English dubs of DB games in particular are solely done by sex pest Sabat's studio without any Funimation involvement.

Even though I got bored with their channels I will give the TFS crew credit for bringing on Grant and Kirran, two guys who don't even like DBZA and said so several times on stream. It does take a certain level of maturity to knowingly have on guys who will shit on your own product and take it in stride. Takahata seemed to have a bee in his bonnet about some of the criticism though, there was one stream with Grant, Kirran, and Lani where Grant told a story about how he talking to Taka at a con about Lord Slug Abridged, I believe and why he didn't like it because he felt a lot of the jokes didn't land, he proceeded to get extremely upset and claimed that Grant just didn't get it. Lani for comparisons sake just laughed his ass off at the story.

This does remind me of a second Taka story. On another stream, might have been one of the DnD vods, Lani talked about this one fan at a con who brought over a poster signed by Akira Toriyama and Masako Nozawa to their panel and wanted them to sign it as well. Lani adamantly refused to sign it because he wasn't going to put himself on their level and had to actively stop Taka from signing it

Took me a minute to realize who you were talking about, then I remembered them from the DBCembers. I hope those still keep going in spite of Abridged no longer being a thing.

I am more familiar with Grant & Kirran through the TFSGaming YouTube channel and StreamFourStar archive YouTube channel (where their Twitch archives are uploaded).

Agreed, for example I enjoyed Cell's P is for Perfect song, but hated that they kept making Cell sing in the last episodes it felt like they where trying too hard to top a joke that in retrospective wasn't even that funny

Considering how I wasn't able to tolerate more than a couple of minutes of the first episode, I think I'll skip this one too.

I don't get how they can be so autisticly perfectionist during DBZA and have such atrocious animated shit like this afterwards.
My guess: despite the Jabs they make towards DBZ, they respect the series too much to not be a perfection with it's parody.

That or they're too use to doing parodies that they don't know how to make original content well.

Honestly, you could make a case for either of those scenarios.

I guess that's one way to talk about the shifts that happened around the time Cell showed up.

TFS are doing a 24 hour stream of all of FF7MA, and I don't know why. Nobody is doing a commentary over it, it's just every episode back to back for 24 hours.

As of when I post this, 1k people are watching and the chat is just repeating the jokes currently being told.
