Tech-Com 2029 is an amazingly pretty Terminator fangame where you play as Kyle Reese fighting a bunch of future war missions in 2029. The game is barely complete but we do have a working demo that has been released to specific reviewers. The developers have stated directly though that they have not and will not release a demo for public consumption though, which makes me suspicious that perhaps the first demo isn't as interactive as it appears to be.

Its been directly compared to Terminator: Resistance and called way better, to the point where Terminator: Resistance doesn't even compare. Having played Terminator: Resistance all the way through, I'm inclined to agree that Tech-Com 2029 is even better, assuming it works.

Some Scottish dude playing the same demo, he doesn't crush it in the same amount of time the first guy does so you can see stuff like him using the shotgun:

Its clear from both videos that the level is very rudimentary. The HK Tank and HK Aerials are clearly moving along a set path with some kind of turret AI that causes them to fire at the player. The Aerials are more than likely invincible. The second video clearly shows the HK Tank at least has a health bar of some kind, its not just scripted to blow up the minute he throws the canister bomb at it.

The game's channel got yeeted from Youtube in what I thought was a direct copyright strike, but they explained on their Facebook page that essentially the channel was operated by a different person, who got a copyright strike on a different piece of content, and all Youtube content operated by that person was taken down at the same time. They've put up their Youtube channel again. This technically means that Tech Com 2029 could still be something that will get hit by copyright strikes eventually, but for now the suits don't appear to be taking any action against it.

Other videos from the channel:

The highlight for me is the music, which is remixed from source tracks from the first two movies, kind ofl ike how Terminator Resistance did it, except way better.

Is it too good to be true? Will it get destroyed by copyright strikes? How do you think it compares to Resistance? Thoughts on what the rest of the gameplay might look like?

Give the copyright holders about 12 hours to serve paperwork.

And people that get mad about that are to stupid to understand how copyright works

Looks really good, but why waste effort on an established IP that'll just get you C&D'd? Not hating, just wondering why not take inspiration and make your own thing if you're going to put in all this time? How we wound up with Journey to Silius when they couldn't get the license.

I think leaning towards stealth is a good move for this sort of game. I played through Resistance on the highest difficulty, and with the lion's share of the enemies having high damage hitscan weapons you end up having to cheese encounters by hucking explosives over cover and by shooting at tiny exposed bits of the enemy from spots where they can't return fire. That's not necessarily a bad thing, and it's arguably thematically appropriate to be exploiting the AI's shortcomings in order to pull out a win, but it still leaves a bit of a bad taste in my mouth. It makes more sense for a scared, starving resistance fighter to be sneaking through the rubble and carefully picking fights instead of clowning on all the terminators.

Anyway, I want to believe this game won't be C&D'd, but maybe it can serve as the basis for a true indie project.

This is an age-old question and it probably comes down to the same reason Hollywood remakes and reimagines everything constantly; IE, there's already an established community and fanbase for that particular property. We've seen original IPs reach great success when they were initally planned to be based on something else (Warcraft being the big one), but in the position of someone just starting out success and a wide audience is hardly guarenteed.

Plus there's so much shit to sift through these days that its questionalbe if your original IP won't just be lost in a sea of MOBAs and anime titty card games and neon-shooters.

Eh, I'm mixed on the whole pure stealth and sneaking stuff. IIRC the Resistance actually managed to pull out a legit win against Skynet through asymmetrical warfare. Once Connor got everyone working together and started taking down Skynet's infrastructure the tide started turning. Sending the original Terminator back in time was a Hail Mary for Skynet, not any sort of long-term backup plan.

Terminator: Resistance did go with the approach that the final standup fight against Skynet we see at the start of Terminator 2 and the end of the game was the culmination of many years of guerilla conflicts and playing it safe. Tech Com 2029 might go the same route.

Terminator Resistance was okay. Best thing about it was the free DLC where you can play as the T-800. Otherwise, it's a kind of mediocre wannabe Fallout title.
