Tech you miss/ new tech trends you hate - ok boomers

If they ever make it mandatory for anything I'm using, I'm just going to put opposite sex pronouns for shits and giggles.
If they ever make pronouns in general mandatory I'm going to invent some incredibly complex system where I'm he/her/shitself except a different one every day in each slot, with sets of exceptions, and then I'm constantly suing everyone who misgenders me.

the slow migration from wired to wireless accessories, with wired equivalents of modern tech being phased out.
i understand that they're more convenient for most people, i'm not against the technology entirely and have used some wireless tech before.
but when i'm trying to get something for my desktop, there is literally no reason for me to use a wireless alternative and have to deal with all of the drawbacks that technology comes with (e.g. battery management and automatic power timeouts).

for example, my friend had recently obtained a set of wireless speakers and they have the incredible feature of turning off after ten seconds of no sound to save power, which is fine, but the problem comes in with the speakers taking at least two seconds to respond to sound output and turn themselves back on.
this results in the first two seconds of anything he listens to being completely dropped and there's no way to disable this without playing a constant, low humming sound.
apparently he does not see a problem with this and the way he resolves the problem is to simply restart playback of the video/song to compensate.
What gets me more is the lack of any ability for the user to control when the time out occurs. Other lacking things are decent battery indicators, so many devices have just the bare minimum of a light that might tell you vaguely where the charge is at based on color, but some lack even that and just beep to you when they are getting to 20/10%. Recently decided to try some wireless stuff to see if the tech has gotten far enough yet and wow, unless you can get open source software for this stuff it is not yet worth it.

I remember that light on top of the phone. It would be a small LED light that would blink when a notification pops up or when your battery is dying. I don't see phones with that simple feature anymore.

I think with iPhones, it's a blinding light that blinks the whole screen.

It’s the flashlight at full power on iphones. The one at the back of the phone. Drains the battery, too.

Just knick things from another language, you're american and can claim heritage from somewhere like all americans do. Loudly proclaim you won't give in to cultural appropriation and the erasure of your cultural blah blah the imperialism of the english language.

My pronouns are vi/din/du. It translates to we/yours/you but language, like pronouns, is very complicated and I will get angry if someone questions things in a language they know nothing about.

What I want to do is find people who are so autistic they can't even understand these weird pronoun games, and then beat the shit out of them for getting them wrong, and then sue them for the trauma I experienced while beating them into a coma for their horrible crime of being too autistic to understand my pronouns.

Dedicated MP3 players. It was pretty nice to have a dedicated music device seperate from your phone. And as much as I dislike the iPod for it's needless annoyance with syncing music onto it, that clickwheel is so good.

Even the cheap and shitty ones without a display had their charm. You put your music on that one, hit shuffle, and now you're locked in. No more skipping around for specific tracks to listen to. You were constantly listening to parts of your music collection you hadn't touched in ages.

Not only that, the amount of battery life you could probably get now if you use a cell phone battery. You could theoretically last for hours on end.

Dedicated MP3 players

They still exist. The higher end ones have batteries that last weeks, the sony walkman (yes that's it's name) for example. Dunno about the low end ones but you can basically buy ready-made chips that do decoding and playback from a FAT/NTFS formatted SD card and it wouldn't be hard to build your very own mp3 player without any linux or higher level computing involved.

I recall people being upset with Bethesda re-releasing Skyrim several times. That pales in comparison to R* with GTA V for the PS5.

They hyped up this release with "EXPANDED AND ENHANCED," "ray tracing," and "improvements" only to just resell a gimped PC version for hard to obtain consoles.

Also, isn't the point of these consoles to retroactively update existing games? Not charge a fee to update existing games with a few enhancements.

The issue really is that the benefits of just listening straight off my phone now outweigh a dedicated MP3 player. Though I know they also exist in the audiophile space where they have features designed to get the best quality audio possible.

I'd like to see one that exists as a smart-device but solely for listening to music. That way every single feature on the device and the UI could serve one sole goal, to make listening to your music great. No apps except for stuff like Spotify or an EQ, and ports to connect physical headphones.

I feel bad breaking my Walkman before. Sadly they don't even make this anymore.
I fucking miss DVDs. Commentaries, games, documentaries, cut scenes, unrated versions of movies. Fuck it, I miss it all.
You could say that about vidya games where there were bloopers/minigames and developer commentary. Loved that shit.

In the technology side, has there ever been a good mid/high-end tier PC component where RGB is NOT added? I swear, looking for a cooler/motherboard/PC case without RGB is fucking hell, especially mid-full tower and water-cooling stuff.

I was looking at new floodlights as mine decided to up and die during the winter. I wanted one with those big screw in bulbs, rather than the halogen one I have now. It's in a very inconvenient place, and everytime I had to replace a buld I was afraid I was going to drop one of the screws, the glass plate, the frame around the glass plate, get fingerprints on the bulb and end up with it exploding. Basically it was a pain.

I go to a big box hardware store, and 99% of the floodlights are these cheap shit LED ones where you can't replace the LED part if it goes bad, you have to throw the whole light out and get a new one. Bleh. Screw that. I don't even want a table light that has those built in LED crap that usually lasts for MAYBE a year before the LEDs start to burn out or flicker. I'll pay 3x the price just to get something I can replace the light source in.

Planned obsolescence has become worse for video games thanks to microtransactions, server closures and yearly releases. Sports games are notorious for this practice.

There are people that buy yearly sports titles (Madden, NBA, FIFA) and outright buy overinflated card packs for "the best players" to compete online against OTHERS that do the same. EA and 2K encourage such spending to inflate their profits.

Other game companies are taking notes and implementing these same practices into THEIR games, even if it doesn't make sense.
