Tech I miss: DVI capable motherboards, graphics cards, and new monitors with the port. I can find BUCKET LOADS of old monitors set up for DVI but not HDMI for 10 bucks at a thrift shop, hell, some motherboards still come with VGA. But poor DVI is absolutely felted. I actually like it too. Pretty good definition, the screws ensure a solid connection, it's not going to get loose on you, etc.

And yes, you can get a converter, or a cable with hdmi to DVI on the ends. But it's not the same as running it natively and we all know it.

I hear you, man. I'm still using a CRT over VGA with my desktop at home in 1600x1200. I have switched to lcd screens before and I use one at the office, but I still just kind of like the CRT more. I find the colors pop more and are a lot more vibrant on those CRTs, especially the darker colors. I also find the 4:3 aspect better for browsing because most modern websites have these huge dead spaces on either side of the screen when you're in 16:9.

Plus it has a degauss button.

Older monitors in general felt built better. You can bitch about resolution or frame rate, but they really aren't going to break unless you punch them. And yeah, different aspect ratios. You're stuck with wide-screen now. Personally I like it, but some don't, so you're just SoL unless you find a old one

I'm gonna miss Unity. It's legit a good tool for making games.

Unreal is shit. I don't care what people say. Name one good UE game that isn't corporate goyslop. Sure AAA games look great, and the lightning looks great*, but they're all bland and boring action-platformers of FPS with nothing of substance. Doesn't help that they all go for the same aesthetic (hyper-high detail, ultragigasoy realistic detail, 10000k size textures), it all looks like a bland, boring movie, no style, no uniqueness...

Worst offense of all, you need teams of 100s of people to be able to make a game that properly makes use of UE5's full functionality. It takes 3 weeks to sculpt a proper, 100000 gorillion polygon model so that it looks good in UE. Great you rigged your characters face to display (uncanny) facial animation and each blade of grass moves... The character in Vampire Survivor has 5 sprites. Can YOU name an UE game that was as popular and fun as Vampire Survivor?

Unity with its robust prefab UI, animation and special effects packages is leagues ahead of any competitor (Gamemaker, Godot) and makes the whole process 100 times faster. Pity.

*on rigs with fucking 60GB ram, last gen GPU that can run it at anything but slideshow speed, at 100% capacity till it turns your fucking room into a sauna, in the rare eventuality that the dev took proper time to optimize the fucking game.

Name one good UE game
ill do you one better, satisfactory and witcher 3.
one is an autist's wet dream and the other is drowner slaying simulator 3000.
take your pick, both are fucking fantastic even if the engine running them is a nightmare to deal with.

Witcher3 is goyslop.

Satisfactory is a buggy mess that runs like shit.

I miss mp3 players. I don't care if phones have built in music players these days, I liked having a device dedicated only to music.

I also miss when game console were simple. Just insert the game, cut it on, and boom, that's it, you could play the game. Modern consoles require you to create a profile and link to an account/email. Not a fan of this.

Witcher 3 was made with Red Engine, which was CD Projekt Red's in-house engine (that they no longer use because using popular-in-the-industry software is cheap).

I also miss AGP ports being a thing. But given that the said abbreviation is associated with something even more depraved in today's times, it was probably for the best that AGP ports have disappeared.

Back to the topic at hand, auto makers continue to push computerized gimmicks with cars. Volkswagen plans to add a version of ChatGPT to their cars, BMW's iDrive9 will have compatibility with game controllers so you can play games in your car with them, and Mercedes-Benz is going full on techbro by adding features such as AI voice assistant, NFT compatibility, and even being able to produce music with will.i.am functionality.

I do wonder how many of these companies will end up bankrupting themselves, only after they realize that very few people want all of this sheer bloat of features.

One thing I hate about IT is when some customers immediately expect you to fix their issue right then and there. Some things have to be escalated beyond our control.

"It shouldn't be that hard." If it was easy, why don't YOU fix it YOURSELF then?
I see you too have worked with Indians.

Don't forget when you're already dealing with something objectively more urgent, yet some fuckwad wants you to fix their piddly dock problems NOW NOW NOW

It's fucking gay as shit. Smartphones have ruined the Internet and infotainment (even the word makes me cringe) is about to reach the point of having ruined cars.
I dread the day japanese car makers start doing this shit too. Euro brands are pozzed and high on their own farts, they will get absolutely destroyed once internal combustion engines are definitively cucked out of existence and the chinese move in with their cheap plastic toy EVs to undercut the entire market.

DVI-I exists all the way to GTX 900 cards, which also happen to be the last with native XP drivers, and cards like the Titan X can still be used today relatively competently. I'd think in the future the being the last generation with XP drivers and native analogue out they would be popular for retro builds. Pascal (1000) cards also have DVI but only DVI-D.

I hate UE more because the moment I see it I know it won't run well on a potato. When I am stuck on a laptop with integrated graphics, even a pixel game like Octopath, because it runs on UE, runs like absolute shit on it despite being the type of game that used to run on anything.

I still use an MP3 player and will continue to until they literally do not exist on Earth anymore. Music sounds like shit on my phone and I don't want it being clogged up with music files anyway.
Gotta get a cheap phone with a microsd card slot and put in a 512gb card for your music library.

I believe I have the right to complain this given that this is now a technology thing.

The current push to make all cars into computers (hence the Hybrid and EV push) has made me seethe endlessly as every single issue about car maintenance, pollution and control has multiplied to 10. By this point, they are no longer cars but mobile computers, worse than laptops by a mile. Many of the niggercattle population praise this push as "innovative" and has resulted in the gutting of old-style cars that requires keys and the simple mirrors for reversal. Looking for cars on my place has become nothing short of miserable, being stuck with mouthbreathers that I diss me on my eternal hate for such "cars", to the point that they would tell me to use public transportation instead and tell me to "be grateful that you even have a car".

I despise modern society so fucking much its unreal /rant.

Maybe my brain is too zoomer, but the iPods (even the touch ones) were perfect if it wasn't for the apple kikery (thank God for jailbreaking). Just looking at the device, it was an offline device, just for music, could have a few movies and had some comfy games (w/ no micro transactions...). A device that just held your favorite shit locally, just doesn't exists today. Everything just has to be a phone that runs 5G 24/7 so the battery can die quicker and force updates so it bricks itself by design. I hate the anti Christ like you wouldn't even believe it.

One device for calls/message's and one for media, damn it was comfy...
