Tech you miss/ new tech trends you hate - ok boomers

It's a bit out of place but I miss some old style of sinks that were (sometimes still are) used in factories and some schools I once attended back around 2nd or 3rd grade. They had a metal bar on the floor you pressed your foot on and a pipe ring would shoot out water in a sink that around 4 to 6 people could use at the same time. Now a days it's all automatic sensor sinks that may or may not work and I'm left with drying soap on my hands running to the other side of Walmart for a rinse.

My elementary school had that but I think our wash basin was completely round, almost like.a park fountain. It could probably have handled a dozen kids at once though I was obviously much smaller at the time so, if they haven't renovated the bathrooms since I was a kid and it's still there, it may be smaller than I remember.

Speaking of people locking their mods behind Discords, I went into one only because I was bored and really wanted to play this mod that overhauled the game. Heard good things bout it. I shit you not, I was banned because their bot moderator didn't like my name. Without specifically telling me what was the problem, they told me to change literally EVERYTHING about my account in order to stay in. Never said a word in this server either. Tried messaging a mod but they ignored me. Told them to go fuck themselves and embraced the ban, especially seeing that the owner was a Russian femboy. The one time I ever join a Discord to get access to a mod and this happens. Never again, don't care how badly I want the mod I'm not doing it if it's locked in a Discord, already hate the program as it is.

Tale of Two Wastelands is a mod that combines Fallout New Vegas and Fallout 3 so you can just do one playthrough with both games. For some reason you need an account to download their mod now and the forum was replaced with Discord. Why the fuck do I need to make an account just to download your mod? I hate what modding is becoming.

Might be a common answer, but I like tech/computer products you can actually repair and work on yourself without having to get any sort of "blessing" from the manufacturer. It used to a normal thing to buy an Android phone, root it/unlock the bootloader, and install a FOSS operating system without all the tracking and spyware shit in it. Now if you want to do this, your options are very limited. Now I just buy Google Pixel phones on eBay, as those phones are dead-easy to de-Google and do whatever you want with them.
Plus any kind of software that used to be a one-time purchase, but changed to subscription just because, I can live without it. I don't mind paying for software that is genuinely useful to me, but paying you forever for it is retarded.
Basically so much tech sucks now, is designed to be disposable, and keep you paying forever. I love that Right-to-Repair is getting more traction, and more companies are pretending to care, but it's a long way to go.
The guy that made CaVE Database Manager for Nintendo Switch did this. His name is DarkAkuma - absolute fart-huffing fagaloid, and in my opinion, everything wrong with software makers.
I will say he makes a genuinely great tool - you can use it to modify the Nintendo Switch Online emulators (N64, SNES, GBA, etc) to remove the crappy games, and load up any roms you want (and their box art) to create your own game list. I used it to load up the Pokemon Gameboy and GBA games into their respective NSO emulators, and they work just fine. The problem is all the hoops you have to jump though just for him to allow you to have it.
If you want the newer version that actually works with the new NSO databases (the older publicly available one does not), you have to do the following:
- Join his Discord
- You have to post in there a certain number of times, and report a certain number of bugs, all of which you don't know. Only he does.
- Eventually, once he decides you post enough, you have to be invited to get a download link. Again, there is no set number. He just decides when you deserve it.
So he wants to have his own little autistic community of people telling him how great he is, and be like dogs begging him for a treat, that's how I see it. Plus I've seen the conversations in that Discord - you can tell people are just trying to up their message count and reporting of things just in hopes of getting a link to download the new version. It's so pathetic that this guy runs this way.
Thanks to sailing the high seas, I managed to get a copy. Acting a lap dog to this guy was never gonna happen, even if his software really is good. I hope that one day, somebody can make an alternative, and make it widely available just as a big fuck you to this guy. It's exactly what happened with "BetterWayElectronics" and their PS5 tool. Somebody made an open source version just as a giant middle finger to the douchebag that made the original. Love that shit.

I'm not a boomer. If anything, I'm technically just around Gen-Z, but I fucking hate the pointlessness that is anything show-offy about iPhones. One feature that primarily comes to mind are the latest iPhone, or is it Google Pixel? Bollocks to it, they're the same - adverts, where they make a big deal about altering the face of someone you just took a picture of. And vapid dweebs pay hundreds of pounds/US dollars/Canadian dollars/Australian dollars/New Zealand dollars/Hong Kong dollars/rubles/euros/rupees/yen/yuan/dong/rands/shekls for something that's not that useful, or unique, really.

I feel the same way about Apple's HEIC and HEVC images. Yet another example of proprietary garbage.
I had something similar happen with some sort of "update your drivers" message only to have the update not find updated drivers. Very annoying.
Last year, I accidentally deleted my smartphone's photos from a special event and none of the file recovery apps I tried could recover them, either. I've switched back to my old digital camera for picture taking that has decent enough resolution/quality and requires slightly more effort and confirmation before deleting photos.
Shoes in general seem to fall apart easier and wear out faster. Worse is how simple everyday or work shoes cost so much when they fall apart so easily too.I’ve owned knockoff shoes that have lasted way longer despite wearing them a lot more
