Tech you miss/ new tech trends you hate - ok boomers

I'm going to rant about a few things that drive me up the fucking wall, that I'm sure have been mentioned elsewhere in this thread, but I don't care. Modern tech has turned me into a seething creature of sperg rage, hate and loathing over minor bullshit nobody cares about.

How come every supposedly modern Microsoft software runs like dogshit? They're all slow, clunky, take ages to load, break often and have little eccentricities that drive me fucking insane. Why are these things so tremendously bloated???

I work in an environment with Windows 7, 10 and 11 computers. The Windows 7 computers are very fast and lightweight, have no weird hangups and generally only have issues when they're interacting with something more modern, or when the capabilities of their old hardware are exceeded. Same with Office 2007 and 2010, both of which are present on these computers. They take seconds to load files and once you're in they're never going to freeze or crash. I've been using Office 2007 on my modern PC daily and it's literally never had a single error or crash the entire time I've had it installed.

The Windows 10 and 11 computers, on the other hand, throw hissy fits at the lightest touch, run like shit after a year or two of usage, will often develop horrendously slow startup, login and load times, and these problems are compounded by modern "apps" like Teams being such abysmally gluttonous beasts that hog up resources for no apparent reason and can barely keep themselves together without crashing. That's not to mention all the weird errors they'll often have, and the solutions in the official forums are buried by mountains of retards posting unhelpful obvious bullshit answers and inconclusive dead threads.

Not to mention, their UI/UX is atrocious, it truly feels like I'm losing bits of my soul when I interact with those plain gray squares Windows 10 calls a visual style and the horrendous mismatch of colourful bouncy icons and the software equivalent of commie blocks for a background of Windows 11. I cannot fathom how with these supposedly "clean" and "sleek" and "efficient" UIs it runs worse than Windows XP which was the epitome of garish and extra, than Vista which gave debilitating AIDS to any computer that couldn't handle its power, than 7 which was practically 100% Aero everywhere all the time...

And, of course, because the Windows style always sets the trend for UI/UX design in the following years, everyone's adopted the same practices as Microsoft: bloated, slow, ugly. Every modern social media site feels and looks almost the exact same, with the only thing changing being the accent colour; the mobile-first, web-afterthought design doesn't help much either. This nefarious virus has spread to every single website, every news site, every company page, even fucking Wikipedia is like this now. I truly don't get it. It's like a graphic designer Redditor took control of every tech company and decided to overhaul everything with his autistic obsession for dead whitespace, center-alignment, plain icons and text, and "cleanness" above all functionality and common sense. And then he recruited a horde of programmers and web designers to pump the damn things full of needless crap to make the experience as miserable and soul-sucking as possible.

So fucking true. Progressives and DEI nepos turned everything into one enourmous commie block and everything about it is so bad that you don't even know where to begin with
India is a rapidly developing country with a growing population (unlike China) therefore market is going to familiarize with fucking pajeets and their "tastes" as alien and retarted as Chinese ones.

This isn't really a tech feature, but some cars have fake exhaust tips for some reason, to make the car "look" sporty, but it comes off as being cheesy. One example is the current-gen Mercedes-Benz CLA:

The AMG version of the CLA does have exhaust tips, so the base one not having it is only for cost-cutting, as is the whole point of the CLA to begin with, as a cheaper model to lure more suckers to buy it only for the badge.

I miss when programs had a definitive scope and didn't just update forever. I also miss when nagware was called out as such and not just a normal component in software design.
I was just looking though the "Hacker Kroniklez" CD from about 1997 and it had a whole folder of "anti nag" . Thr whole layout is like an early Internet site and kind of cosy if you want to read about secret government files and why bill gates is the devil, it also has a section for that

Also the iso on internet archive apparently has a trojan in a file titled "hack.exe" in the main folder. Wish I had picked up the original unopened cd I saw the other day to see if it did indeed come with that.

UI/UX design
We already had some very good UIs in computing history and just keep regressing for decades at this point. It really is amazing how the computing requirements of UI-driven software somehow keep growing with the computing power of systems without offering any extra value whatsoever.

I don't even hate GUIs in general at all and think GUIs can be done well, but I think text based interfaces (TUIs) are the way to go. They're consistent and coherent and really hard by the usual suspects to shit up. Considering the year is 2024, that's just sad but just the way it is.

I hate those fucking things. If I wanted a goddamn tablet I'd buy an actual tablet. Instead they're selling these pieces of shit that are too big to be a practical phone and too small to be a practical tablet. Who asked for this shit?
Boomers. They love gigantic phone screens, which they blow up the text size to 300% on, and all they do with it is scroll through Facebook.

I just want a phone that will fit in my shirt chest pocket (work shirts, so quite a large pocket really). I constantly bend over and drop the damned thing. I was sorely tempted to get a folding one for this reason alone, screen crease be damned.
Till my lovely wife surprised me with a new one..... slightly bigger than my existing one (having mentioned to her I wanted a new smaller phone if such a thing still existed).
Just half an inch smaller in length would be fine.

Whatever I guess, I set up my office with a PC again, so that will be my internet hopefully with the added bonus of not being on it so much, and I just got a 2000s mp3 player for music while I work without endless fucking ads, as well as I have taken to wearing a watch again to avoid the temptation of checking something real quick on the curséd black rectangle

How come every supposedly modern Microsoft software runs like dogshit?
The most honest answer I can give you is simply that the model by which microsoft makes the bulk of its
revenue, the sale of hardware and software, has stopped being a viable means to hold up the sheer weight of its own ass.
In attempt to delay the inevitable collapse of itself, microsoft is making best efforts to reinforce its profit
margins by switching their main mode of profit from the sale of hardware/software to the sale of user data to third party organizations.
Microsoft has thusly done everything they can to further expand the volume and flow of user data into their
hands by turning what was once an acceptable and functional OS into the biometrics equivalent of an industrial oil pump; consequently leaving little to no room for other processes making any computer not built to kill a small god run like a fat kid jogging over quicksand.

Microsoft got rid of most of their software test team in 2014 before Windows 10 shipped. They decided to use automated testing, telemetry and preview builds instead of paying for a team to identify bugs. This saves Microsoft money but doesn't catch bugs that aren't easy to identify. A technology YouTuber named Barnacules Nerdgasm used to do software testing for Microsoft and made this video explaining what happened:

Not exactly a "tech trend", but something that occurs only in the tech industry that really starts to rustling my jimmies:
Motherfuckers that don't explain their fucking acronyms. Even and especially when there is a huge risk for other to confuse with it something else. It's not hard. Everyone knows what IT and IP means, but saying DE and expect other people to translate it to "Desktop Environment" with no context given makes you a huge fucking gay dicksucker. EYFA: Explain Your Fucking Acronyms! I swear everyone of those people just want to look smart.

People should have just stayed with WinForms, at least for Windows. Those were easy to develop, and the main reason for graphical user interfaces was always to give people an intuitive way to use their computers, not to give them style-orgasms.

This is probably being a repeat of one of my own posts: not being available by phone. Yeah, I was busy OR I left my phone at home. Intentionally. This goes for both work and private phones.
I miss landlines in that way.
I just set my ringtone to silence and maybe a half dozen or so people get an actual ringtone I can hear. Anyone who has a problem with that can pretty much blow me. Leave a message and maybe I'll call you back. Probably not, though.
