Loss of electronics/junk stores. Fry's that used to be near where I am now is gone. All the assorted surplus/junk stores are gone. Used to make a pilgrimage down here a couple times a year, now it's all Amazon and eBay, no sense of wonder while wandering the aisles looking at the junk any more.

I fell for the vr meme a few times (under appropriate return windows). I presumed it was going to be the next big leap in vidya. Best experience to be had was HL: Alyx; no other game came close to the intuitiveness and design of that five year old game. The novelty wears off quickly. The most popular vr apps are degenerate spaces where freaks congregate to obliterate their real lives in leu of fictional ones. No one wants to actually develop for it anymore cause the userbase will only go to goonland. Virtual Reality is all but dead.

Why is everything so cucked and neutered these days, even in the worlds of piracy and hacking?
Got a kindle recently, was bought from a third party retailer so came with ads out of the box. Did some browsing and found plenty of jailbreak guides for it but nothing specific on removing the ads. Found an ancient thread about removing ads on what looks like a big e-reader hacking forum that was locked by a janny with a message like "we no longer support this kind of behaviour". As it turns out, a jailbreak doesn't actually remove adverts from the device.
lmao why the fuck would I want to jailbreak this thing if not to remove ads? You can already load up pirated books on it no problem. The idea that wanting to remove adverts on your device is haram, on a fucking hacking forum of all places, is insane to me.

While I'm not really a fan of "smartphones", I think they should at least be less disposable and more customizable: parts can be replaced easier, being able to put in an SD card easily, being able to change the battery, etc. Not this crap with everything sealed inside, and no easy way to put an SD card in. Also, SD pic and vid still available.

Up until a year ago I believe, it was possible to just message Amazon customer support to remove the ads, just saying that your kid saw an ad for erotica or whatever, and they would almost always just remove them even without paying. I guess too many people used this technique that Amazon removed the ability of the customer support reps from removing ads for free.

Lol I can actually believe that part being real and not an excuse. I pirate all my books so the ads aren't personalised and its all smut aimed at women with shirtless men on the cover. Unless the algorithm has enough purchases to push personalised ads I guess by default it assumes the user is a thirsty middle aged woman because that's probably who buys the most kindles.

I don't know if I hate it, but I've only just recently seen the Switch UI from actually trying one, and as someon who grew up with the DS family of game consoles, (as well as the Wii) my every impression on its UI is just "that's it?" Where the hell's the color, ambience or music?
I'll admit I also fell for the VR meme and got the quest 2, the shit's just been a 300 dollar plastic paperweight ever since Pavlock Shack stopped being free. The VR scene's too gimmicky, niche, and pricey for anyone but lone autistic furries to really wanna innovate on it, when was the last time they made a REAL vr game aside from those two fnaf ones and Half Life Alyx?

Are you fucking serious? That doesn't even register as real to me. I was having thoughts of buying a kindle because I read a lot of garbage webnovels. When I was like 12, I jailbroke my first iphone using a sketchy method from a friend. I used it to get like a billion gems in the Adventure Time mobile game and opena bunch of cards. How the fuck is it less capable than that?

Says that adjusted for inflation using the year that was in the midst of the transition from VHS to DVD that it would have been 173.80 in today's dollars, so yeah, even at $200 in today's dollars that's bullshit.
On a related note, has anyone else jumped aboard the cheap DVD/Blu-ray train? Got stacks of them and usually paid less than $5 for each.

Mrs Jong is in the other room doing some form of compulsory training for her job that involves her speaking to an LLM/AI. Because it's shit and apparently can't understand English, I've now heard a similar pitch for the twentieth time. This is all time she could be spending actually doing her job. Even if there is an option to give feedback, I imagine it'll fall on deaf ears since the head of the company is a pajeet, who is also demanding they start using Gemini for everything, like clients won't be able to tell the response they're getting isn't human. I've never been more glad to not work in an office environment.
Today I really miss Minidisc. I always wanted to have a big rack of MDs next to my PC and Hi-Fi setup with all my torrented software backed up onto them. I'd love to have seen how much storage space they could have gotten out of them, had the record industry not ruined the format because they didn't like people copying music.

Holy shit, do I really need to buy old used stuff just to get a headphone jack now? I bought a cheap $100 tablet at Walmart because I lost mine ( a tragic story) and it doesn't say anywhere on the box that there's no headphone jack, because I guess I'm supposed to just know that.
