The single thing I hate the most is how everything needs to somehow be tied to the internet.

I had to deliberately buy a new (shitty) TV off Amazon to get all the ports I wanted after my old TV died after 10+ years in service.I miss when televisions came with a lot of ports. This is the back of my set I bought in 2009. I've used almost every single one of them at one time or another.

When I first bought it, I had a satellite box and a DVD player hooked up to HDMI (2). If I wanted to watch a movie off my laptop I used the VGA and 3.5mm connection (3). Then I moved to an apartment that had cable, back when you could still get cable straight from the wall without a box (1). I moved again, so then I had a cable box going to HDMI. Later I bought a Roku so I had to bump the DVD player to component (11). I found a cheap soundbar for it that only had RCA inputs so I had to use the analog out (4).
When I moved to my current place I dumped cable and am using an over the air antenna (1). I don't have a bookshelf next to my television anymore to put a full size DVD player so I use an old travel DVD player I stick next to it on the wall using mounting tape. It only has composite outputs (10). My old soundbar broke so I got a new one and it's hooked up with TOSLINK (5). Previously I used the USB to power the Roku but now I use it for the bias lighting so it turns on and off automatically (7).
Such a versatile television set. Unfortunately they don't make them like that anymore. I'd much rather have more ports than "smart" features any day.
People think JavaScript is lightweight. What they don’t realize is that JavaScript is light as a fucking M1 Abrams.Bring back:
Hate:
- Random people having handrolled websites
- 2011 YouTube (please I just want video replies to come back)
- People writing Assembly
- Flat design
- Needlessly powerful devices
- Javascript in all its forms
- Inefficient software to the point of absurdity
JavaScript itself is fairly lightweight (especially compared to say, Python), the problem is programs swell to absurdity because the API is insane so you have to write so much code just to do basic stuff.People think JavaScript is lightweight. You also forget that these JS 'devs' cram everything with dependencies up the ass, so it just slows down everything to be grabbing all this shit from multitudes of places, its redundant for the purpose that JS was built for, being 'sleek' and responsive.JavaScript itself is fairly lightweight (especially compared to say, Python), the problem is programs swell to absurdity because the API is insane so you have to write so much code just to do basic stuff.

Yes, but holding it horizontally usually requires two hands while vertically requires one. People will always take the path of least resistance. Which is also probably why they don't record horizontally because it's easier to just do it vertically.I'm a little surprised that horizontal phone design and use became normal as it seemed a lot of early handheld devices were intended to be held horizontally. Most hand-held video game systems at a certain time, the Sidekick, etc. And it seems like holding a phone horizontally would create more space for a full on screen keyboard. * shrug*
Just get an SD card broI miss high capacity hard-drive based MP3 players. The last one I had was a Cowon from 2009 with a 180GB drive and I used it for 11 years, until it sadly stopped holding a charge earlier this year. I reluctantly made the switch to Spotify after fighting the urge to try and find another one like it used or a refurbished iPod Classic. I had music on there that I'd had as far back as the Kazaa/Limewire days. Some of it, I can't actually even find on music streaming services and I have to look on YouTube for it. And I can usually find it on there, but it's fucking annoying. I'd also like to be able to just HAVE the audio files on me at any given time whether I'm hooked to the internet or not, because I don't have cellphone service, just a limited amount of mobile data for work.
Apple still makes the ipod Touch and it was refreshed a year ago (Or was it 2?), can get it up to 256gb.I miss high capacity hard-drive based MP3 players. You can use youtube-dl to download songs from youtube. Put them all on a playlist and download as mp3s or flacs or whatever.AS far as tech trends I hate, I hate how Google has a trend of just ditching things out of nowhere. I liked Play Music, I don't want to go to Youtube Music which is shit, and doesn't seem you can't download songs, also it wouldn't let me import my music collection to my main profile because "fuck you".
Sure but I just meant it lacks features that Google music had, not to mention some times all I can find is the music video of a song (with speech/sound effects, etc), or the fact that some of the stuff I listen to wasn't on youtube but on Google Music. You can use youtube-dl to download songs from youtube. hope its SATA (which I doubt, I don't have an IDE (or PATA) to SATA dongle.
I can't believe it will be exactly 6 years ago next week that Apple announced they were discontinuing it.I also miss my 160g iPod classic.
