Tech you miss/ new tech trends you hate - ok boomers

Society finally forced Zoom on me and I can honestly say. Discount skype is designed like absolute shit. No wonder this shit is forced. Natural word of mouth growth for an app would be outright fucking impossible with this thing. Fucking Boomers should of demanded Discord servers for everything, it really would of been a fucking upgrade.

When I finally can I'm deleting this trash and never touching it again. Thanks guys, forcing this on everyone was a great idea.

Nothing is more satisfying than dialing a number on such phones.

I hate the way websites have been "modernized" AKA became ugly as shit because minimalism. I miss the charm of clunky old websites. At least Neocities is cultivating that pre-2009 personal website culture that Geocities had before it shut down.
I blame Normie book for popularizing that and ridding the internet of much of it's charm

Wait until you have to use Microsoft Teams for literally anything.

I can't fucking stand how hard Microsoft is pushing Edge again. I like how when you attempt to install Firefox or Brave through Edge they manipulate the search results to tell you how awesome Edge is and why would you want to use anything else retard. Fuck off Microsoft.

You think that's bad, at least Teams mostly works. One of the places I worked at during the pandemic used one of the alternatives from Cisco. No idea why, management told me they spent millions on it so weren't going to move to Teams because that would be admitting that you pissed away a shit load of money on busted software.

Anyway, this Cisco thing was fucking garbage and barely worked. If you are ever thinking "man I wish I could use MS Teams right now" you know it's bad.

Those have a place in my memory that I will never forget, but they could also be a pain in the ass. Zone out, do the "touch dial" and put in a 7 instead of an 8 and you have to start over(unless you quickly catch it).

What I liked about the old phones was that you had to go to a room to make or answer a call, maybe look at the book with numbers in it. It took a bit of effort. Now people can make a phone call without effort at any time and from any place.

*ring ring*
"hey, what are you doing"
Taking a shit
"eeew. So it's a 30 minute walk to where I'm going and I was bored so..."
*flush*
"eeew. Did you hear what I said? anyway..."

I don't find it weird to leave my phone at home when I gay out (that's the less gay term for "me time").

Matchmaking is an endlessly cancerous and consumer-unfriendly practice I cannot see it justified. How is matchmaking in multiplayer games a good business practice? You have to host the servers yourself, you have to make an algorithm for matchmaking, and you (apparently) have to moderate people when they're jerks to each other. I genuinely don't get why this is the go-to for your usual deathmatch/objective shooters.

These issues are all avoided on the dev's end with dedicated servers, and the players are happy because their experiences can be tailored to them based on what server they pick. Tryhards can play with other tryhards, the casuals can find a community for themselves, and the players who like "playgrounds" to fuck around in also have dedicated servers they can play on. I don't know ANYONE who thinks skill-based matchmaking is fun or a good idea since it encourages a 50/50 win rate for everyone most of the time. I really wish I knew what the appeal of forcing matchmaking in games is, it takes away too much freedom from the players.
It's about control. They can control the version of the game and the 'experience' of the players. Then there's one single official community from which they can ban players if they want to.

Also, when the game is no longer popular, you can shut down the last one and release a sequel, and force everyone to buy another one.

Most devs are also lazy and would rather pre-purchase a networking/matchmaking server package than code their own server and matchmaking.
I think it was Adobe acrobat that did something similar the other day at my job when I simply wanted to flip a file 180 degrees because a client scanned their document upside down. TFW simple tasks such as rotating files 90 or 180 degrees is a pay-for feature. *sigh*
Look how well that turned out (nobody uses Acrobat anymore)

I say use Libre's stuff instead.
By the year 2000 consoomer electronics where so cheap and reliable no one was bothering to fix anything. And with custom IC's in everything and suffice mount components you weren't fixing it anyways.
And we're starting to see the ramifications of it.

A lot of slave trade and illegal mining was used to obtain a steady supply of rare materials. Now those materials are running low or the consequences catch up to us.

You better start learning to repair phones and devices, cause that may be a valuable skill in the future.
This all started going downhill with Microsoft calling directories folders. Absolutely disgusting
Say what you will, but the UI is still useable and an objective improvement.

I've always associated Cisco with quality products, but webex is just a shockingly bad piece of software.

And the annoying ads and One Drive shit in the OS.

I really do not like how every one is trying to adapt home displays to consume movies all the time.
16:10 and other aspect ratios are just better.
I especially hate it that now a fuck ton of youtubers record in ultrawide resolutions like in those shitty displays. Bro what are you doing!

First off, I fucking hate that OSD for volume changing on Windows 10. It's large, it's obnoxious, and I can't even have it popup on my secondary monitor so it doesn't block my view for 10 seconds because I changed the volume slightly. Thankfully, I found a program that hides that shit... until Windows auto-updates. Slowly weening myself off Windows and onto some form of Linux.

As as more general complaint, I hate that everything is a fucking app. Even on desktop. No, Microsoft, my browser is not an "app". What's worse is that if you go to "add or remove programs", it brings you to a settings page called Apps & Features. Oh, and Window's UI becoming more and more stripped down to cater to people who don't use computers for more than checking Facebook. Trying to connect anything via Bluetooth on Win10 makes me want to put a gun in my mouth.

I just want it in the original format and without shit missing. Unless it's Wesley Crusher in a crowd scene cameo, then pan and scan that shit.
