I don't know if this fits but when old ideas are relabelled or is 'new' but it's just exactly the same as the old stuff that has been around for decades. Then I am supposed to be super over-the-top excited for new thing that is the same of the old thing. I can't even pretend to keep up anymore.
Discord, tik-tok, instagram, even facebook. It's just old hat with a new label and usually shit/ter features with it. Call me an oldfag but social media peaked with MSN chat rooms and grainy webcam pictures.

Every "new" service is just an old service set up for even more data harvesting and locking more previously free features behind a paywall. Did you hear Discords now going fully mask off and removed "we will not record your calls/screens" from their TOS? I'm sure they were probably doing it before anyway but it just drives the point home.

I didn't know that but i am not surprised in the slightest. Online gaming, online chats and anywhere there is a microphone, someone is skimming our data and making a mint out of us.
i wouldn't mind so much If i was paid for it. "receive £50 a year for having alexa in your home". I wouldn't do it, but it would be easier to understand when people say "hey, I've just bought the new spy device". Call me paranoid but i am uncomfortable around those things and say little when I'm around them.

I hate curved screens with a passion whoever thought that this was a good idea obviously believes that you don't need a tempered glass screen protector for your phone. The removal of the headphone jack was also a complete dick move with the whole intention for it being to force you to buy those dumb bluetooth earphones.

Do they even make basic model cars now? By that I mean, cars without screens and all the added electronics crap?
I was thinking about it today as I was aggressively banging a hammer on my starter to get it loose under my car. When my two vehicles finally crap out (a 2002 and 2006 respectively, both over 400k miles on them, one almost to 500k, and running like champs FYI) should I even bother looking at any newer cars or just keep hoping for good finds on older vehicles? I want to be able to work on my car without needing a diagnostics tool to unlock the computer so I can change the oil filter. I don't want a smart screen. I don't give a shit about the reverse screen. I don't even give a shit about automatic windows. I just want to be able to work on my damn car.

Some stripper models do exist but they all will have a screen of some sort whether it's for the instrument cluster or hvac information or infotainment. Those aren't too bad though. This shouldn't stop you from working on them. The brz/86 twins are still pretty user friendly and there are still some stripper model pickups like the colorado and frontier. My main issue would be with direct injection as that can cake valves with carbon and requires extra care. Some cars come with both direct and port injection to mitigate that. Just a matter of finding one with the right amount of tech you prefer. I also prefer my 2000s era cars and will drive them until parts become prohibitively expensive.

That's good to know. I haven't paid much attention to newer vehicles since I haven't had a need for them, so my only experience is from the people around me. . I like the look of the Toyota. I have one currently, it's the 500k one, and I'm pretty sure it runs off pure spite at this point. It's going to outlive me, my children, grandchildren, and probably the heat death of the universe. I'm somewhat new to self repair on my vehicles aside from typical oil changes, but now I'm bitter at the thought of having to back now that I've got a taste of being able to fix or replace most things completely on my own.

If you're sticking with Toyotas and your Hondas, you shouldn't have too hard a time doing basic repair even if they're newer models. Toyota uses their engines for a long time. Only recently did they replace the 3UR v8 in the LX with a new v6 twin turbo unit. As long as you're not messing with luxury brands, doing diy work like fluids and brakes should be the same as older cars. Coolant jobs however seem to have been changed to use the vacuum fill method instead of the old fill and burp. Lot of cars are just big lego sets in the end.

At least in the US, it's the law that all new cars have to have a rear-view camera and a screen to display it on. So, no.

Starting with Windows 8, they removed the startup sound; then came Windows 11, which returned it but it's minimal and barely audible. Most Linux distros don't have anything at all. macOS I'll give major props to for keeping theirs (which is an oldie they've tweaked since it's introduction), it still sounds great today.

I hate Discord so much, and I fucking hate how more and more things are moving to it, even outside of gaming. It sucked a lot when most gamers moved to Discord, but I said fuck it because I played mostly single-player games anyway and didn't care to join any chat groups for the multiplayer ones I did play.
But now, even certain workplaces and real-life clubs, groups, community centers, etc. are starting to require you go to their Discord channel. So you bite the bullet, start creating an account, and then Discord suddenly wants an email and a phone number both just to let you through. It's so obnoxious, if you take your privacy seriously, to have to scour for public SMS numbers to get through that verification, manage to get in after a half hour of bruting which numbers haven't been caught yet, then when you think you're done with that nightmare, a day or two later, it prevents you from logging in again and demands a new number because now it doesn't like what you provided before. Because fuck you they really want your personal details.
And all just so you can have access to a group chat that's probably not even worth it and is barely used for more than posting boomer-tier memes.

Do note that the US mandated in 2018 that all cars sold here are to have a backup camera, so even the simplest cars such as the Mitsubishi Mirage or Nissan Versa will have one.
Back to the topic at hand, some car makers are now placing screens in a curved or angled manner, to point the infotainment more towards the driver for ease of use, but it comes off cheesy looking. One example of that is the upcoming 2024 Ford Mustang:
They also removed the physical buttons for the climate control, and moved it to the touchscreen, which is again a dumbass trend that more and more auto makers are falling into.

Everything being so fucking bloated and loading screens galore.
Used to be a problem for adobe suite; 10 fucking minutes to open up any program... The thing opens up, ages after syncs and checks for updates (why would we ever do that in the bg), checks the cloud etc etc.
Now Visual Studio does the same. Won't even bother touching VSCode.
Remember when you could double click an icon and a tool would open 5 seconds later?
