Tech you miss/ new tech trends you hate - ok boomers

At least in the US, it's the law that all new cars have to have a rear-view camera and a screen to display it on. So, no.
It's crazy that people think making drivers look at TV screens will make things safer. The instant people look at any kind of TV, big TV, little computer TV, tiny phone TV, they start zoning out and retreating from reality. It's illegal to drive while using a phone, but they're going to glue an ipad to your dashboard. Make it make sense.

Because Auto makers started to make it close to impossible to actually have anything viewable in the rear, I have driven in some cars (pre requirement) that I couldn't see shit when trying to back up, and a reaction to a bunch of news stories when very young kids got ran over by cars backing up because the driver couldn't see them.

The LED based DRL trend going off the deep end was kicked off by the wavy light design on the Audi R8 back in 2006. It was a pretty new design in lighting and everyone else jumped on it to this day. It has been tried and overdone to this point and they're another added expense as the car ages.

It has always been a shit look. It looks like Dame Edna.

I actually like those. They also have a HUD warning with lines telling you when you're too close to whatever you're parallel parking or whatever with. It would be better to have less shitty rear visibility, too, but that wouldn't help people who can't turn their heads very well.

In general though putting touchscreen bullshit in cars is retarded.

Blame the bean counters.
For some stupid reason in bean counter land paying a "Small amount" in perpetuity is better then paying a large lump sum that will last 5 to 10 years (or even longer) that would equal to be cheaper per month and in total cost of labor.
It's because it comes out of operational expenses rather than capital expenses. The way capital expenses are accounted means they can significantly reduce share dividends, plus they're only tax deductible once. Operational expenses are tax deductible every financial year.

It's all about money for the money men, at the end.

It's always some pile of hardcoded spaghetti paths in some docker container with a dial-out to some megacorporation's servers, where the actual AI logic lives.
I was just about to talk about docker. I've been going through the process of learning and creating an intranet at home for various things, but I'm going to say 75% of FOSS for self hosting is now in docker containers and don't offer an alternative installation method. I like manual installation of these things because then I understand better how they work and what's going on with my machine. After a lot of searching I've managed to find what I needed without docker containers, a lot of them quite a bit better feature wise and what I want to use them for.

Is this a common issue with docker containers that you mentioned?

It's not a container issue, it's just easier to bundle stuff in containers and be opaque about it.

Personally I like Docker, well, Docker is crap, I like containers, I use podman often for shoving things in containers when the native versions don't like my OS.

My recommendation for all stuff in docker is to find the original Dockerfile(usually in github) and find what it's doing behind the scenes, you may be able to do the install yourself or at least you'll have a better idea what's going on,

Podman is great. Being able to run containers in a rootless manner, unlike with Docker, is super useful. I find it better than messing around with Docker.

Seems that whenever there's a promotional video or ad for some tech scam or some overly optimistic prediction of future technology, there's always this "epic" classical-y music playing. You know what kind of music I mean? I like calling it "the BS theme".
There's a band called Two Steps from Hell that makes almost all of it. I think they're aping movie soundtracks.

I have to use Teams at work, and let me tell you, it's actually gotten worse over the years.
I agree, and its only been a couple years for me. We also use Zendesk and let me tell you, it was far better a couple of years ago than it is now, and it still wasn't that good then. Whoever is in charge of design there needs to be shot, it's especially criminal that they still don't have a dark theme and charge a monthly subscription for one that's made by a third party (which is an addon btw).

pointless fact: The Meklar (cyborg people) in that new Master of Orion game have a theme that sounds like that.

(the soundtrack to the 2nd game is better BTW)

I had a job where all work communication was over Teams. It took 25-60 seconds to start Teams usually. For a glorified IRC client, it sucked. I wondered why the company didn't just use IRC, but then I realized that the HR/C-suite couldn't send sappy facebook memes over IRC. Most people don't want to know how things work, they just want things to "just work", which is a clarion call for shady, manipulative businessmen to dupe dipshit users (cf. Facebook, Instagram, iPhones, dark patterns in UI, those damned cookie notices everywhere (thanks Eurocrats)).
