Tech you miss/ new tech trends you hate - ok boomers

There's a band called Two Steps from Hell that makes almost all of it. I think they're aping movie soundtracks.
There's also Audiomachine, if you wanna shop around the movie trailer music genre.

Back on topic, for stuff I hate: biometric sign-ins. I don't know, call me paranoid, but the only thing I trust with my fingerprints and face shape is myself. I ain't giving it to a company just to spare a second signing in.

They're also not as protected by law. Depending on where you live you often cannot be made to tell a PIN to law enforcement to e.g. unlock your phone. No such protection exists for e.g. unlocking via FaceID or fingerprint sensor.

Is it just me or has internet advertising gotten even worse in just the last few days?

Seems almost every site I frequent has more ads bypassing the ad blocker, and this crap seems to have started when YT made the first suggested video on the front page or "related" video an ad. Then I noticed ads on other sites I frequent that weren't there before.

It's not just you, and Chrome announced changes that broke adblockers some time ago. Wonder how big a sack-o-shekels they got for THAT one.

They're one of a few companies that makes trailer and placeholder music for license. You'll often hear their music in early teasers for movies. Fun trying to recognise it.

They realised they could make extra cash selling compilation albums after their music started turning up all over youtube. Pretty decent source of slightly generic epic inspirational music.

My laptop has a fingerprint scanner, but I'll be fucked before I turn it on, I barely keep anything on my laptop anyway and you'll have to steal it from my cold dead hands

BTW I'm glad I never switched to Chrome. I don't like the idea of caching pages offline (it can be hard on the hard drive or flash memory), and caching can't be disabled in Chrome. Also Chrome is from Google, which is like the Current Year equivalent of using IE from M$. And then there's that adblock breaking thing.

Any other reasons Chrome sucks?

(also I've been using Firefox for about 20 years now and got used to it)

YT continues the quest to get ever crappier: now on the front page, the first suggestion is always an unblockable ad video.
update: Looks like that crap is gone for now.

As much as I dislike the idea on principle, the horse is kind of out of the barn for me. My fingerprints are on file with two federal agencies, multiple state governments, a couple local governments, at least three corporations, and one professional association. So one more. . .whatever. 🤷

If I ever commit a crime that involves leaving fingerprints I'm pretty much utterly fucked.

ETA: and if that sounds like a boast it really isn't. All of them were for really mundane reasons, I was just working in a field where no matter what you did someone wanted your fingerprints.

I don't like how more things are done with "exceptional" algorithms now.

example:

"I Need Another Extension On My Mortgage Payments" - blobbem

For some reason, YT detected this as "kids' stuff", so comments are disabled with a "Try YouTube Kids" there instead.

I possibly will have to but it's nice to be able to watch the football and whatnot on broadcast TV without having to fanny around with streaming services and all that bullshit
You could also try looking for commercial/business TVs. They typically come without all the smart shit but tend to be more expensive than consumer stuff. I'm in a similar predicament and just hoping my ancient dumb 720p telly doesn't die so I don't have to deal with some smart abomination.

Yea, but how many agencies have your mug shot too?
