For what purpose though? Why would the watch have helium inside of it to begin with?

You don't put helium in the watch, you take it out.

When you deep dive you ride down in a diving bell that's filled with helium to offset the toxic gases that increase with depth. Helium is small enough that it can get past the gaskets in the watch, then on your assent during depressurization the pressure from the helium inside the watch can blow the face off.

The first watch to have this was the Rolex Sea Dweller and a Doxa model whose name I forget back in the 1960s



Omega is probably the most known for it with their valve on their Seamaster the most visible. The valve is on the left near the 10 oclock position.




Seiko simply encased the entire watch in a massive shell affectionately known as the "tuna can"

They really aren't, though. The few really expensive genuine Swiss watches that are still made have all kinds of ridiculously cool features. Like a helium release valve in some fucking Rolex meant for deep sea diving.

Fun fact, Rolex sponsored James Cameron's dive to the bottom of Challenger Deep back in 2012.

The ribbon drove/drives me nuts. I rarely use any Office programs anymore but I sometimes help people when they are lost. They describe what they want to do and I reason my way to where that functionality would be. In the ribbon that's fucking hard because labels are scarce unlike a drop down where everything has a name, things can now be clicked on that opens up more things without labels and next year they might just move some of these things around again. If I took a week to learn it there wouldn't be a problem, it's just frustrating to know that it is just changing a formatting value for this or that in the cells, I just need to figure out where they put that menu... It's not the complete insanity of a "jiggle the crystal then touch the second pearl" type of Kai Krause interface, but still.

Rather than scroll through menus, just click a tab and relevant tasks were there. Plus, it looked modern and professional without being too simplistic.

Office 2010 went too barren for it. No substance.

One thing I do miss from Office 2000 is the paperclip. Clippy. He made typing papers and whatnot amusing.

SCART was a european thing going way back. SCART supports s-video and component - pretty good so far - and supposedly resolutions up to 1080p.

I have something similar - a device that takes in analog antenna, red-white-yellow, S-video, and VGA, and outputs VGA up to 1024 x 768. It can work with both NTSC and PAL. It allows me to use my cheapo LCD monitor as a TV with old vidya and DVD/VCR. No HDMI.

It's probably pretty old tech...

Call up Sony and see if you can still get it repaired out of warranty. I had to do that once and they wanted $100, but that was several years ago, when you could already buy a used one for like $150. Maybe the price has dropped, who knows.

mine is the cecha01 model and they dont repair those anymore. they only let you swap it with a slim and besides I got mine second hand. Im going to send it to some guy called the ps3 specialist to get it repaired but Im hesitant to do so because some people have said he is a scammer.

the thing is after all these years there is still a ton of debate around what causes YLOD. some say its the chips solder breaking, some say its the capacitors and some say its because some chip other than the GPU or CPU died.

As bulky as it was, I liked the aesthetic of the older PS3 model. The Spider Man font and curved edges made it look modern.

Also, the backwards compatibility was an hidden, albeit expensive feature on the PS3. I understand why they got rid of it, but damn not many people knew about it at the time.

Composite? Try using it on a modernish HDTV(something from around 2011) set to an SD aspect ratio. It does not look good at all. Component is much better in those circumstances.

Not sure if newer TVs let you use older aspect ratios. Digital Devil Saga looks like a blurry mess through composite even at its native aspect ratio.

It was before my time, but I miss "retrofuturism" (it's like the look of The Jetsons). To me it's the only "industrial" look with "character" to it - or "glamour" as @Dom Cruise may call it - unlike other "industrial" styles like minimalism or "brutalism".
