Tech you miss/ new tech trends you hate - ok boomers

Early 2010's is when soys started taking over the tech industry, as well as graphic designers having to justify being on the payroll by making needless retarded changes, happened to every popular website like youtube, google, etc.
Flat design is also much less demanding on the designer and fits the 2010s sensibility that beauty is dead.

I like that consoles come with built in with hard drives and memory with optical support for external hard drives. Microsoft in particular was stingy with that with the Xbox 360. Specialized hard drives and memory cards you had to buy. Especially since that some SKUs came with little or no memory (Arcade, Core.)

However, once you account for the UI, you're left with a finite amount of space. Back in 2016-2017, a launch PS4/Xbox One with 500GB could fit a few games on there before you'd have to invest in extra space.

Now, games are getting ridiculously large even before updates and DLC to where one game could take up half the default space. Modern Warfare and Red Dead Redemption II are obvious examples of that.

Even 1TB likely won't last half a console's lifecycle now.

I remember during the PS2 days, a couple 8MB memory cards could last you for dozens of titles. Now 1TB is barely enough for games.
Games should be smaller next generation since there will be hardware decompression and mandatory SSDs. A lot of the assets in current gen games have to be duplicated to minimize seek times of mechanical hard drives.

Game devs these days usually seem to give no shits about compression, ssds or not. We have games that are 100+ gigs by default like shadow of war for no discernable reason.

I doubt that, there are still AAA games out there that tie physics to frame rate, which was considered "the old and bad way" of doing it since at least the 90s.

Frame rates will always be tied to ticks, it just runs at a higher and independent rate of rendered frames. Usually, there's also Japanese games. It has to do with how the math works.

I'm so pissed I made an account to post this.

I need to buy a new phone and EVERY phone with half decent specs is 6.5" or bigger. Who needs this stuff? I remember when 5.5" was still too big. these older phones had, at least, a nice square screen, light sensors and proximity sensors and looked fine. then apple launched iPhone X and everyone started to want the stupid notch, culminating in today's stupid trend of having notches and punch holes as a fashion statement. Nobody was ever hassled by 1-2 mm of bezels on the sides and 3-4 mm of bezels on the top and bottom. Notches are absolutely stupid and need to die, but instead we have idiots thinking they are good and fight over which looks better. the correct answer, is 'none'. Except perhaps the ones like iPhone X, at least these are tolerable.

My theory is that notched displays were engineered to be cheaper and cheaper and once the cost difference between a notched screen and a normal one became less than the cost of all the light sensors, proximity sensors, dual cameras and LED flashes, they made the switch, since you have no space for any of these in a notched display.

I don't miss fuel gauges in cars where the top quarter of the tank took hours of driving to go through, but as soon as it hit a quarter tank, it meant it was going to run out of gas in minutes. I prefer the new ones that just straight tell you how much gas you have left with a number.

And to add on to the stupidity of the size of these phones, most of them are so long that content like videos doesn't even stretch over the whole screen.

I really hate these new gigantic phones and have no idea why this shit is the fashion. If I wanted a tablet I'd buy a tablet!

At least the new folding phones idea means they're making the base screen way smaller because you can fit a tablet sized phone inside of it. Too bad they cost at least 500 dollars more than regular flagships. And the big screen can be damaged by your fingernails...

Both the folding Galaxy Z(?) And the new Motorola Razr folder are over $1200, it's kind of nuts. Not to mention I bet these first gens are going to have all sorts of hinge issues.

It's already been shown the first gen samsung stuff had all sorts of issues with dust getting in there. They updated it to add more bristles in the second iteration. But any sort of water protection is out the window for this stuff and I can imagine the screens getting very damaged over time. Especially lame you can't even really use a stylus.

I love the idea of a folding smart phone, especially because I miss having a flip phone myself, but the execution is going to leave a lot to be desired plus these companies area going to rape you for reinventing the wheel. I'd much rather they do something like a keyboard on the lower half and make the top half a touch screen so you're not dealing with OLED shit that can and will have massive issues, plus it will solve the hinge problem.

And I don't even get how it's still so.... eh. Sony had this back in 2007 in the least
and yet, other than some small increase in durability, has seemingly not improved since then.

I wouldn't pay that for a phone if I were a fucking millionaire. Who pays $1200 for a goddamn phone? That's just some sick bullshit. If I'm even going to pay over $500 it isn't going to be for that kind of shit, either. It would be one of those waterproofed, indestructible motherfuckers.

Pretty much every work van around here now are those ugly "Current Year vans" - Ford Transit. And with coronapanic, there's a lot more on the streets these days to remind you it's 2020.

Those are neat. But unless my LG flip phone dies on me I intend to use it until AT&T jettisons 3G. I have a tablet and laptop at home. I do not use the internet when I am outside doing stuff other than to check the weather. Fuck rain out of nowhere.

But I will have to upgrade a few months before the cutoff so I don't get stuck. I still prefer a flip phone though. Easier to carry I've never destroyed one. The one I have is built like a tank. No matter how many times I stupidly drop it it still works. The shell is banged up but the screen is fine. I also like real buttons. I can text pretty fast on the keypad because I am used to it.

Barf. 🤮

That's all I have to say about that.

Don't know if it works with AT&T, but I have a Nokia slider that is, in fact, 4G, so they do make 4G dumbphones.
