It tripped when I opened a large media thread during the ddos attack. Figured it was related never seen it before that on the mirror.

For some reason it was just that one thread when i stopped going to it from notifcations I stopped getting 429s.

Probably because Jersh is working miracles to keep the server up and sometimes he needs to wave the chicken in a clockwise direction instead of counterclockwise. Either that or Elliot no longer has access to the attack power he used before.
Depends on the number of IP addresses, which is the price point factor of the attack. One million IPs doing 1 request a minute is unstoppable and can only be resolved with lateral scaling. A few dozen IPs trying to do hundreds of requests a second is much easier to identify and neutralize. When it's a smaller attack they often have different attack vectors. Sometimes they change it and I have to figure out what they're doing different. When it's a very large attack I have very limited recourse.
Josh I'm completely retard in the realm of DDoS attacks but what do these IPs do exactly? Like do they just hit the refresh button a shit load of times?

Is guest page caching, or trying to scale guest page caching horizontally in the cards? That way even if the backend is struggling from L7 attacks, the motive of knocking thread OPs off the clearnet/search engines wouldn't be met.
my nigger in christ I have operated this website for a decade and have been dealing with attacks for at least half of that time. i do not need suggestions that are total shots in the dark with zero information about how the site works.
Two things I can think of, different attackers with different capabilities and as pointed out elsewhere different vectors of attack.
Happens to me time from time as well, CTRL-F5 usually fixes it.
I think that happens when the last read comment is more than about 30 days old.
