Feedback Technical Grievances

Sneedchat still suffers from disconnects and in general seems to be sluggish at times.
I understand and sympathize with the challenges the site is facing due to frequent DDoS attacks but I would like to know if this is the only source of issues for chat. To me it sometimes feels like chat is still disconnecting without an ongoing DDoS attack.

The disconnects are the main issue but I also feel there has been a longer ongoing performance degradation. There was a time during peak bossmanjack streaming when chat could get slammed with literal hundreds of messages a minute without missing a beat but this is now all but impossible without heavy lag and disconnects. Extreme message spam shouldn't have to be a core feature but I hope this illustrates how users perceive chat performance to have been degrading for a while.

Is the DDoS still going on? Forum's been unbearably slow since the new year, inconsistently too. Sometimes it loads fast for five minutes, then 10 minutes of endless loading and so on.

Not a grievance but does Kiwi Farms the App now exist?

"Install the app" shows up randomly when I'm on mobile and I assume if there was an app it would be celebrated across the site. I've learned to trust nothing but thought I'd ask.

Been having issues accessing the Farms all day through .st while my Proton VPN is running, figured I'd point it out as I know there were issues re: whitelisting a few months ago. Turning it off allows me to access the site fine.

I doubt it's a Proton issue, but it might be some weird widespread networking problem, or related to angry DDoSing over the email verification test. I've been having issues accessing KF all half a day *without* a VPN. Switching to the Tor site worked immediately. I did not try to use Proton VPN, although I have it installed. Opening a Tor window in Brave is fast/easy since it doesn't affect anything else (like Archive.today which really chokes on VPNs).

May I ask what the trigger for avatar images being re-encoded is? I did an animated version of my avatar (I have occasionally changed it to something else only to receive torrents of complaints and demands to restore her. FWIW, she has a bra under there, it's just light). The animated version is a webp and I got it down very small to 1MB and 384x384 pixels. However, it was still re-encoded on upload. This would be no issue but something strange happens. I wanted to make the animation happen only rarely to give people a "did that just move?" experience. With WebP I can do this without increasing the file size by just specifying an extra long time between certain frames. Which I did. However, on uploading it, the extra time between frames was stripped. I made a version that did have a pause by inserting extra duplicate frames at the start, but this does increase the file size. (My current avatar is > 2MB as a result).

I may just go back to the non-animated but it would be nice to know if there were a way to avoid getting it re-encoded or work out why this happens. Like if it happens for any image over 900KB or something I can compress further.

EDIT: I did a more compressed version that was originally 780KB. Not only does it still re-encode and strip the frame timings from the webp, but the re-encoded version is 14% larger than the version I uploaded.

Anyone else having issues with clearnet this morning?
Yes - trying to mess with DNS right now, see if the tube jannies are mad over something. Turning off Chromes secure DNS which decided to turn itself back on seems to have helped, but could also just be coincidental timing.

Didn't work, just lucky timing. Getting lots of ERR_HTTP2_PING_FAILED
