Ted's PhD thesis is available on Wikisource. I believe that part of why he didn't become a mathematician was that although he outsmarted everybody working on the problem there by producing a perfect version (with an "if and only if" equivalence between two notions) the wider mathematical community didn't give a shit because it was both an old-fashioned area of mathematics, and one that was very hard to understand. So he expended a lot of effort to do something that almost nobody else in the world could do, but nobody appreciated it, even the people who are supposed to (academic pure mathematicians).

Seeing all this Ted Kaczynski worship tells me that someone needs to inject some truth here.

Ted Kaczynski was a nutjob that inured and killed innocent people basically for nothing. With that out of the way lets go over some details.

I read some of his manifesto back in the late 2000's. Probably long before some people posting in this thread read it. He made some good points but a broken clock is right twice a day. It was basically a bunch of armchair psychology crap mixed with some captain obvious points. When it wasn't that it was the ramblings of a mentally ill man. That's because Kaczynski was a diagnosed schizophrenic. Apparently a paranoid schizo. I read most of it and I didn't find it to be that profound. Yes, technology has progressed and it's having an impact on the world negative or positive. Like I said, captain obvious tier stuff. But that has always happened. Technology progresses and it changes the world. Sometimes it's good and sometimes it isn't. It also varies on the perspective of the people being impacted by the technology and change it causes.

So what did Ted Kaczynski do? Starting in the late 70's he was mailing bombs to people. He either delivered them himself or through the postal service. His early bombs were built in wooden boxes that weren't strong enough to contain the explosion long enough for it to build up enough pressure inside the box to cause any serious damage. So his early bombs didn't do much. By that I mean they didn't kill anyone at least not right away. I think I read online that one of the early victims had a few fingers blown off. That's still a horrible thing to have happen. From 1978 to 1995 he managed to kill 3 people and seriously injure 23 more. Most of these people were just nobodies. They didn't have any real power or the ability to make any real decisions. He was basically injuring and killing innocent people from what I read about years ago. Instead of targeting the people that were actually making decisions that would impact society and the world he went after regular people.

Now what was Kaczynski's motivation for all of this? What set him off? He was living in the woods in a cabin. Some crews started cutting the trees down in the area around his cabin and this made him angry. He was basically a crazy tree hugging nut job. So after this started happening he did some of his earliest bombing campaigns. All because people were ruining the view around his cabin. Innocent people had to get injured and killed because Ted didn't want the view around his cabin ruined. I know, this sounds like behavior of a man that is clearly mentally well. No, it isn't. Ted Kaczynski was an unhinged schizo that killed and injured people for no reason other than he didn't like people cutting the trees down around his cabin. The manifesto was just the ramblings of mentally unhinged man that was pissed off because trees in the area of his cabin were being cutdown. It wasn't for any other reason. Kaczynski decided the best way to deal with it was to kill and murder people. Just imagine of some rich fag moved into the middle of nowhere with a forest surrounding his house and some company started cutting down the trees for whatever reason and the rich fag starts sending rando's bombs.
