And just to be clear, while transhumanism may be a movement speculated on and attempted by certain members of the The Powers that B, Ellul and Ted are more specifically arguing that it is the technology itself which is in charge, not the people. The technology can be compared to a force of nature which humans must adapt to or die. It can't actually be controlled. If that sounds crazy or outlandish just read french post modernist theory until a baguette sprouts out of your nose and it will make sense.

Also, since I don't think anyone has said anything about this so far, local fresh meat retard @patcon guy needs to get a fuckin dictionary and look up the word "grievance".

Except transhumanism still operates under the assumption that - someday, give it two more weeks! - we will have sufficient knowledge and control to consciously direct the development of human biology towards some goal. Might not be a good goal for plebs, but there would at least be a purposiveness to it, a "grand experiment" with everything significant controlled for. It's a seductive notion so I can understand why powerful control freaks get hard over it.

Ted's notion of humanity being shaped by technological conditions is much more fatalistic.
 
I've always thought the idea Ted Kaczynski had paranoid schizophenia to be ridiculous. People with schizophrenia tend to have a very distinctive writing style that's marked by spurious (and sometimes wildly illogical) connections between things, i.e. "Last wednesday I got a flat tire and this wednesday someone stole my lunch out of the work fridge. That said, given his taste for extreme isolation and fundamental disconnect from other human beings, I wonder if he might have had Schizoid Personality Disorder.
