Sportsball still takes more effort than using a Mishima faggot no matter how you spin it.
Not disagreeing with your take btw, just saying that there is way slimier characters out there.
Lei was bad, but Zafina and Yoshimitsu are up there too if not worse (Zafina in 6 was a poor man's Voldo before she got better, and if you suck at tricking your opponent don't even bother using Yoshi and Lei). I wouldn't call bears easy to use.
All of them have part of their gameplay based on evasion (except maybe Yoshi), which I would define as part of the core of modern Tekken. They are a lot of fun to play as, tho playing against them can be agony.

The character designs get worse every game. Tekken always had weird/joke characters (Yoshi, the bears, Alex/Roger) but the other characters were quite realistic especially compared to other fighters.

They've gone from looking like somewhat believable martial artists to 2D fighting game characters. Just look at Jun in TTT1 versus her over designed retarded costume in T8.

Oh and Julia is a streamer now? Jesus christ. It was annoying in 4 when they made her a stupid hippie, then she was a luchadora in TTT2 for some fucking retarded reason and now she's a streamer, even though they already had a streamer idol cancer character in Lucky Chloe. Who literally looks like that jailbait Marie whatever from DOA (another 3D fighter that's gone down the fucking toilet)

Sorry for the rant. I love Tekken but it's been downhill since 5. Then they got it back for TTT2 which I consider the best in the series content wise and immediately shat all over it with T7.

I just want Sega to bring back VF so we can have a 3D fighter with a little bit of realism in it and no stupid gauges or super armour specials.

No, Tekken 7's designs were much, much worse than 8. The design started to go downhill with 6 when the story full retard thanks to Harada and Murray seeing Watchmen or some anime with a misunderstood bad guy who tried to be good. No new character from 7 was really good (maybe the Polish chick, but that's a stretch).

Julia was always a hippie though. In 3 she wanted to find out what happened to Michelle when Heihachi tried to sacrifice her to Ogre, but after saving her she wanted to save the environment through Mishima and G Corp's resources. The Jaycee stuff and her change to a streamer were pretty retarded, I'll give you that.

Virtua Fighter had a guy whose only purpose was to beat up a fish caught by the big bad in the series, a French assassin who speaks Japanese, and a ninja whose mom turned into a 3d killing machine. I do miss Tekken's realism from the older games before it came jugglefest (yes, I know older games had combos of doom).

Why are disc-locked characters still a thing?

Did nobody learn their lesson from SF x Tekken?
Fighting games in general have become extremely greedy but Tekken honestly takes the cake in the amount of scumfuckery it does. I skipped 7 because A. King and Lei weren't in and they're my mains. A few years later I find out they added them as DLC and was interested in picking it up but then I saw the Frame Data DLC which has to be the scummiest shit I've ever seen. Now to be fair since I'm on PC I could just sidestep the issue by using a mod but I refused to buy the game on principle because of that.

People who say they want VIrtua Fighter is a better fighter because of realism are the people most likely never played Virtua Fighter and just parrots talking points usually from /v/

the only reason people say that is because they haven't paid any attention to its story and lore, which is more bonkers than SF, Tekken and DOA. it isnt noticable because there are not that much VF games

I don't have a dog in this fight but I imagine when they use "realism" it means the combat being more grounded and not based on weird shit mechanics like the Drive Impacts or Special bars of the world. Also less juggly than Tekken.

From what I remember, isn't it something like "The Organization" that is really behind the VF tournaments, which also happen to be the same people that kidnapped kage's mom and turned her into Dural while also kidnapping Sarah (Jacky's sister) and brainwashing her into becoming an assassin or some shit (basically Nina from Tekken)? Also Akira has an evil rival now, or something. That's all i know from memory.

The intro was...meh out of the gay, pop rock music.

There are juggles and combos in the game, but they're just as hard as Tekken's if not harder (Sarah can juggle someone). Akira's PhD. Knee of Doom was infamous for a lot of reasons, and I wouldn't call any of his shit easy even when Sega revamped him to make him appeal to more casual players.

These are also the same bad guys who took away one guy's only motivation to live by capturing the fish he wants to beat up after everything the fish did to him years ago (To be fair, I'd be salty too if some evil organization took away the fish I want to punch in its fish balls). Taka just comes back becuase [s[Sega couldn't make him work in 4[/sneed] he just said, "Screw it, I'll give it another go."

Haven't played VF in ages, but wasn't the last game launched the same year as Tekken 5? Bc I remember playing both of them around the same time and thinking "damn, those two games are pretty similar, I wonder who cloned who?", and looking back at T5, it didn't had rage, power crushes or any other gimmicky 2d comeback mechanics and I remember juggling was pretty short, I don't think bound even existed in T5.
Point being, if VF had continued, I'd say there's a huge chance they'd also introduced similar mechanics, as well as more visual bells and whistles (slowmo, particles, etc.), hell, if it ever comes back I'm sure they'll get plenty of those in. Wanting a "realistic, grounded" (whatever that means) FG in 2024, using a game released almost 20 years ago as a template seems too 🌈

Never suggested it was easy, just that it's more of "a character that does martial arts more or less based on real stuff" and less super crazy spectacle with layered systems of arcadey like mechanics. I haven't played VF proper, I just assume that there is less juggling than Tekken, though no idea by how much

This I can definitely agree with. Possibly the reason VF stayed grounded is because... well, they just didn't come out and if it had been left to it's own devices, we would have had Yakuza characters in there hitting people with benches and Sonic as a secret shoto archetype character and everyone with janky dash cancels and 3 different bars to administrate.
