Techland has been a huge part of my life for more than 30 years now and it is something I truly cherish.

Whenever I think about the future of Techland, I want the best for our games, the team, and you. And while I am very proud of our achievements as an independent studio over all these years, I believe the best is yet to come.

We dream of turning Dying Light into the ultimate zombie game experience for players worldwide, providing you with multiple astonishing adventures and pushing the boundaries of solo and online modes to a totally new level.

Our open world action-RPG in a fantasy setting is already shaping up to become something truly special, and the goal here is to make sure it will live up to the expectations for our first new IP in almost a decade.

Can we make these dreams come true? Yes, we can. But what we realized is that the best, boldest dreams can only be achieved while working side-by-side with like-minded friends and strong partners, who share the same vision, passion, and have the willingness to back it up with their knowledge, experience, and capabilities.

Today I am happy to announce the partnership with Tencent who are in the process of becoming Techland's majority shareholder.

Teaming up with Tencent will allow us to move full speed ahead with the execution of the vision for our games. We have chosen an ally who has already partnered with some of the world's finest video game companies and helped them reach new heights while respecting their ways of doing things.

We will retain full ownership of our IPs, maintain creative freedom, and continue to operate the way we believe is right. I'm also going to continue serving as the studio’s CEO.

I couldn't be happier about us making this giant step ahead toward the future and sharing this moment with you.

■Baba is retiring

In conclusion, I am retiring as president and transferring the shares of Visual Arts Co.

It may sound like management is not doing well, but that is not the case.

As you know, thanks to the efforts of Hebban and his staff, our company is in the best shape it has ever been in its 33-year history, with record profits for the fiscal year ended June 30.

So, as to why I am retiring, this is already clear, because we all inevitably have a "life span.

If I could, I would like to run this wonderful company forever. But as you can imagine, I am now 63 years old. Of course, I'm in good health now, and I still want to work, but I've reached an age where anything can happen at any time.

If something were to happen to me, although our company is a joint-stock corporation, it is a private company in which the Baba family owns 100% of the shares, and since there is no suitable successor, there is no other choice but to close the company.

If that were to happen, not only the activities and future of the company, but also the rights to our wonderful works and music would dissipate. No, that must be avoided at all costs.

In such a case, the right way out for a stock company is to go public. That way, even if something happens to the president, the company's management will be relatively safe because the shares are held by a large number of people. Of course, there are many excellent companies that do this, and it is not impossible for us to aim for the same thing, but due to our past easygoing management, it is unlikely that we will be able to do so in time.

So the next best thing would be to have a solid "parent company of a publicly traded company" (......).

That would finally remedy the situation where my health is the biggest risk to business continuity. ■The partner is the world's number one entertainment company

I have therefore carefully selected and approached several companies and potential parent companies.

After much deliberation and selection by our staff, we finally reached an agreement with the world's number one entertainment and game company, Tencent Holdings.

Thoughts of the Staff

Well, I can say now that during this period, we considered and negotiated with a great variety of companies as candidates.

We did not go through any formal M&A middlemen, but rather, my staff and I considered and selected the best company for the future of Visual Arts.

The criteria were that the company should be able to make the most of the concept of "creating IP that can be used around the world," and that the company should love our contents and company as much as possible, and be able to transmit our contents to the world from a global viewpoint.

And, of course, the final selection was made by our senior creators and executives after many interviews and a lot of courage.

So I can say with confidence. I can say with confidence that this is the result of a thorough search for a situation in which our beloved contents and music will be effectively managed without loss or dispersion after my death, and the company will continue as it has in the past.

■What we are aiming for from now on

So, Visual Arts will remain Visual Arts (this is important), and the staff will be able to continue doing what they want to do.

Looking back, for the 33 years since our founding, our content has come to be known as visual novels, and our characterization, worldview, and inspiring stories have been embraced by people all over the world.

It was Visual Arts that revived the almost dead juvenile genre and popularized the inspiring story of a protagonist who overcomes the world and his ordeal through his relationship with a fresh, young girl while facing various problems and struggles.

And Kanon, AIR, CLANNAD, planetarian, Little Busters, Rewrite, Angel Beats! Rewrite, Angel Beats!, Summer Pockets, Prima Doll, LOOPERS, LUNARiA, Stella at the End, Heaven Burns Red, False Alice, and so on, all the way to mobile games. The creation of such emotional storytelling systems has become a unique strength in the world.

When it comes to the characterization and storytelling required in the video game industry, I can say with confidence that no other company has such solid planning capabilities and the right approach to production as ours.

We build up characters, create scenes that attract people to them and make them like them, create a world in which many of these characters play an active role, and eventually the whole story will move them. I believe that we are the best company in the world that can do this with proper recognition.

Well, I myself have just been managing the company with ease by taking advantage of the excellent creators working at our company and have not done much (sorry, I am an incompetent president who could not go public), but what they and the senior creators have built up has become a great asset for our company and will continue to be a great asset for us in the future. I have no doubt that they will continue to play a central role in creating contents that will move you. The new president, Tenun, is a graduate of the company, having joined the company after entering school. Key's main success was during the 2000's and early 2010's (specifically with Clannad and Little Busters) but it hasn't produced much of worth afterwards. While not mentioned in the list above, Heavens Burn Red is their (japanese-only) gacha VN co-developed with Wright Flyer Studios, and this thing has generated more money than most of their past visual novels.

For reminder, Tencent is THE mobile gacha company. They saw how much money HBR was making, even more as a potential global IP, and they may transform Key into a gacha machine in the future.

Meanwhile, Tsukihime Remake & Aoko, tons of otome, and even Aquaplus' VNs make very big numbers in the sixtuble digits. There is still a demand for those kind of games. So I'm not personally worried about the genre itself.

Sorry to rain on your parade but there is one game, Volcano Princess, developed by Egg Hatcher (a two-girl studio based in Beijing, China), which has several yuri endings amongst the huge amount of ends.

I wouldn't trust any chinese takeover of a western/japanese media company whatsoever anyway.

Commie chink China isn't based. They don't allow it in their country. But Western companies that come under the control of the commie chinks will still be pushing SJW woke garbage. Just not in China. They censor their games for foreign markets. Remember the PS4 Spiderman game that was ported to the PC? They censored it for sale in the Middle East. Then someone made a mod that changed all the fag flags into American flags using the exact same thing the developers used just Americans could do it and they kicked the mod off every mod site.

China isn't going to save video games. Matter of fact I suspect they will make them worse in their own way. Remember the Rainbow Six game where it was supposed to take place in Vegas but they removed slot machines and other types of gambling? In a game that takes place in Vegas. Vegas is know for gambling. From what I understand all versions of the game had this level of censorship. Not just the ones sold in China. The developers were too lazy to make two separate versions so everyone got hit with the commie chink censorship.
