The internet is full of mentally unstable shut ins that will go full retard over anything. I always like the stories about how they send people death threats for such simple shit as saying a game is bad. Sending death threats is a pretty serious crime. Sending them over the phone or even the internet is a federal offense. Most people don't take them serious but if they send one to someone who is also a bit of weirdo they could end up in a lot of trouble.

So instead of putting blame where it rightfully belonged - THE GOVERNMENT - they decided to instead try to kill the CEO of Mihoyo. They were very eager to get bunny girls for themselves.

iirc global got the bunny suits, china got wedding dresses. so at the same time chinks could virtually "marry" their waifu, they were slutting it up for the rest of the world. least that's how I remember it was explained back then.
it might also tie-in with the drama about zhongli (dragon god of not!china in genshin) and how "mid" his powerlevel was instead of "china numba wan" - which got patched and kinda fucked the game to this day, and rumor has it made mihoyo say they never gonna touch a character again after release (and there were some stinkers which would absolutely need a buff or rework, but then they're the gatcha, and fucking with that afterwards will never go down easy, even when outright buffing them).

I remember them cancelling the bunny suits in Global because of the threats China was giving them because they wanted the bunny suits too. China didn't want us to have anything exclusive, because as far as I know they were gonna give Global the wedding dresses as well. Which is weird since Azur Lane still has plenty of ships that were banned in China, but I guess their audience aren't the raging autists that yuri-bait brings.
