Terminator: Resistance (Terminator Games Thread) - Hacking is as easy as Frogger

There is somebody in the game that looks like you, but saying anymore would spoil the surprise.

Actually you could probably spot it a mile away, but the Stranger who helps you is yourself from the future.

I’m really looking forward to picking this up. This type of Homefront/Far Cry style of game is one of my favorites and it looks like it serves a Terminator future war game well.

I haven’t watched too many videos in order to avoid spoilers, but for anyone who has played it, what type of Terminator and HK models are in the game? Does the HK Centurion make an appearance?

I’ll definitely get this on the day it’s released, but they seem to be pushing back the US console release date again as it is now listed for January 7th.

Oh, I didn't realize it wasn't out on consoles yet. Wonder if there'll be any difference with the Steam release.

The HK Centurion doesn't appear in the game, but you will see HK Aerials and a handful of Goliath HK Tanks. You also get smaller spider tanks, scout drones, mini-spider drones, single/double gun auto-turrets, and Silverfish as far as non-humanoid machines go. There is one more T-series model I mentioned a page earlier, but I'll leave that one as a surprise.

There are several variants of 800 series Terminators, each of them differentiated by their weapons. The T-800 has a single plasma rifle; the T-808 carries a flamethrower & backpack-mounted gas canister; the T-825 carries two plasma rifles; and the T-850 is the Infiltrator with a plasma minigun--the same one you see in the flashback from T1. There

Sounds like a pretty good variety of enemies, thanks for the reply.

It was originally supposed to be out for US consoles on December 10, but a few days ago I noticed it was changed to January 7.

Not a huge delay, but maybe they're trying to polish things up, based on feedback from the Steam version.

--
EDIT: Apparently there was a manufacturing-related delay:

--

Speaking of Steam, the game is now officially moddable:

There's only 5 mods so far. One removes the red/violet glow from the plasma rifles, and another heightens the senses & awareness of enemy AI so they're not as easy to evade once they detect you. There's a mod that purportedly boosts performance on potato PCs, one that adds a toggle hotkey to remove the HUD completely, and the last one takes Jacob's bare arms from the sex scenes and replaces the regular sleeve arms throughout the game.

The most common request I've seen on Steam is to add ultra-wide screen support and an FOV slider. Teyon posted an update on the game's Steam Community hub:

Terminator: Resistance has been out for over a week now, the support shown from you all has been incredible! We appreciate all of your feedback and thank you all once again for supporting the game.

Patch 1.028

The developers at Teyon have been working on a patch for the game, based on the feedback you all provided in the discussions. Please continue to share any issues you encounter while playing, so we can continue to improve the game!

  • Added support for Ultrawide resolutions
  • Added option to invert Y-Axis for mouse aiming
  • Various stability improvements
  • Minor bug fixes

They haven't addressed the FOV request yet, but someone posted a guide on how to change it yourself:

There's also a guide to tweaking the graphics:

Reef Entertainment's Twitter retweeted somebody's screenshots of the game:

Overall they seem pretty pleased with the reception. DLC isn't ruled out either, so we can probably expect some more content in the future.

The game appears to be doing well financially. Polygon and Gameranx mentioned as much:

POLYGON said:
Terminator: Dark Fate bombed in theaters last month, leading at least one critic to wonder out loud if the franchise is even worth saving. Meanwhile, developer Teyon quietly released a first-person shooter called Terminator: Resistance, only to have it rocket up the sales charts and score “very positive” user reviews on Steam.

Looks like they might be working on a difficulty patch in time for the Chinese/Japanese release:

You guys might be in luck; the next patch on steam.db mentions "Hard."

https://steamdb.info/app/954740/depots/
Yep. To be more precise, it looks like they're working on Chinese/Japanese localization on the JP CH branch. And they had a branch that was initially labeled "USED BY TRAILER TEAM", and has now been renamed "HARD". Which suggests that if they were working on a new trailer for the game, and the nature of this trailer is "HARD", or some kind of HARD mode or difficulty rebalance or whatever. Should be interesting. The game has been out for 3 weeks at this point. They're probably close to release. I wonder if they'll release today (It's very early Friday in Poland currently.) Or if they'll wait until next week.

I see the old meme of "Let's make our game less difficult for Amerifats" still has some staying power in 2019. I blame game journos.

I wanna play hard mode, faggots. give me hard mode!

What's the difficulty like at moderate level? I'm otherwise interested in the game since it's only based on the first two Terminator movies (re: the good ones, though Salvation has its merits) but I'm not very good at FPS's.

At Normal mode most everyone has complained that it's way too easy, and that once you get plasma rifles the T-800s melt. This reviewer describes playing it on Hard mode:

I played it on Extreme difficulty. The first time I died was when I was trying to take down some flying scout drones with a pistol. While reloading and just standing there, the thing shocked me 2-3 times and that's all it took to kill me. When I got my first (red) plasma rifle, I noticed that the Terminators didn't go down after only a couple shots. They were pretty spongy, meaning there was more time for them or their friends to plug you a couple times too. Pipe bombs are very effective on them as well as on the armored spider mechs.

The thing that will definitely kill you in one hit every time is the ground-crawling Silverfish. Either blow them up with a noise device or pipe bomb, or shoot them when they start Sonic-rolling towards you. I don't remember if you need plasma weapons to kill them or not, but I'm guessing no.

If I buy it, perhaps I will try it on Extreme then if it seems to be an FPS for non-hardcore players.

I mean, I played Doom and Duke Nukem 3D back in the day mainly using arrow keys and a trackball mouse so it's not like I'm completely inexperienced although I think those games were slower than modern FPS's due to technical limitations of PC's at the time.

Compared to Doom, Duke Nukem 3D & even Half Life, this game will feel much slower. That's because it's based more on slower-moving open-world Bethesda games like modern Fallout and Elder Scrolls games.

Come to think of it, I think Resistance moves around the same speed as the old Bethesda Terminator FPS games.

I was able to pick it up today. Really enjoying it so far, the game absolutely nails the future war atmosphere right out of the movies.

It was a pain in the ass to actually get a copy though. The only store that even had any in stock was Best Buy, and they only got in one copy for the entire store.

Pretty much nails it. I wish this game had more content and things to do, like multiplayer or mission-based co-op campaigns.

It's rich enough to build upon and improve. It definitely doesn't sound like the disaster I've heard Aliens: Colonial Marines was. If I had any pull at Teyon or Reef, I'd get them to reuse all the work on this game for a sequel or remake. Kind of like how Bethesda built on Terminator: Future Shock to make Terminator: Skynet.

There actually is something new you can do on a replay: kill troops of the T-800s with pipe bombs and a shotgun:

I might even forgo buying stuff at the armory this time around and rely solely on scavenging and, occasionally, the crafting table.

The ending sequence is unironically one of my Top 10 Gamer Moments of 2019.

I could replay that anytime, but I wish there was more of it. Needs to be bigger, have more soldiers, more Terminators and more more MORE!

In the meantime I'll just listen to this on repeat:

EDIT: Two instances in particular could have been developed but never were, possibly due to time and/or budget constraints. The first is when you first see that big tri-wheel assault tank in the daytime, either at or on the way to the Resistance base. The second is at the Resistance base perimeter, which is basically two buses or trucks parked parallel to the entrance and filled with mounted laser turrets. Either one would've been awesome to use, and the game implied that you would use them later--or at least watch somebody use them--just by having them there.

Also there was that buggy in the base (which they joked about how they could get it down there) that Ryan was supposed to fix. A vehicle sequence in this game could've been fun. I still remember the one from Bethesda's Future Shock.

There is a new expansion for this game coming soon. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1755190/Terminator_Resistance_Annihilation_Line/

Venture beyond the line of fire to complete an essential mission led by hero of the resistance Kyle Reese.

ANNIHILATION LINE picks up mid-way through the main campaign story. The Resistance has just defeated their first Infiltrator, but for Jacob Rivers, there’s no time to rest up. Orders have come down from John Connor himself that he is to assist in the investigation of Northridge Outpost, a civilian settlement which has mysteriously gone silent.

Why did no-one from Northridge attempt to radio in? Is this the work of Skynet? And are the civilians still alive? To find answers, Rivers and a small team of Resistance soldiers led by Connor’s right-hand man Kyle Reese, must head into the most dangerous territory imaginable...the land beyond the Annihilation Line.

KEY FEATURES

  • A thrilling, action-packed original story featuring over 4 hours of new content, which will delve deeper into the history of Jacob Rivers and take players to new areas of post-apocalyptic California.

  • Fight shoulder-to-shoulder with the iconic Resistance hero Kyle Reese and help him become the man who will sacrifice everything for the sake of a better future. Plus, meet other characters exclusive to the DLC, and live out Kyle’s visions of the future seen in The Terminator.

  • Venture beyond the line of fire as you cross Skynet’s deadly Annihilation Line, and carry out a vital mission to strike a deadly blow to the machines. Arm yourself with an expanded arsenal of weapons, and defend against enemies never before seen in a Terminator video game such as the T-600 and HK Centurion.

  • Enjoy the fullest frame rate and resolution possible with AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution.

Looks like fun to me, I liked the base game and that little DLC where you played as a terminator so I'll be buying this when it releases.
