Terror Trouble in Orlando

Latest news is Mateen was on gay dating sites and had visited Pulse before.
I wonder if gawker would publish his sex tape.
So let's get this straight. A mentally ill muslim, who used gay dating apps and the bar that he later shot up, was allegedly triggered by the sight of a gay couple kissing in front of him.

Could this be our first Gay Islamic Loveshy?
And he's A Florida Man too!
He's like the kwizatz hadarach!

I really dislike how everyone's reaction essentially boils down to "This changes nothing you guys!" on all fronts. "Don't you dare use dead LGBT people as an excuse for your Islamphobia", "Let us be clear that Islam is not our enemy!", "There are LGBT Muslims too!" & "The first people to be victims of terrorism are always Muslims." all say the same thing; no body count could ever be high enough for people to condemn a religion as long as that religion happens to be exotic.

So, has it been possible to confirm or deny that the shooter was or was not actually in contact with ISIS? The fact that he chose a gay club to attack makes me think he must have been more of a lone-wolf type. I think an actual ISIS operative would have just picked wherever they thought they could kill the largest number of people. They'd probably shoot up a mosque if they it would be the way to murder the most people.

I don't think Islam in it's entirety should be blamed for the massacre, and certainly individual Muslims shouldn't be punished because they practice they same religion as a murderous psycho. Whether or not you believe Islam in inherently violent, it needs to be recognized that it simply isn't going away, and that the global effort against Islamic terroism is best served be attacking extremist strains of Islam and destroying extremist groups, rather than opposing Islam as a whole. However, we also have to acknowledge that violent, reactionary strands of Islam are a hell of a lot more prevalent in the Muslim world than equally violent strands of Christianity are in the West. And critics of religion should feel free to criticize Islam as much as they do Christianity, or even more if they're so inclined, even if we are going to acknowledge that, for the time being, it isn't going to disappear.

Also, I wish the 'don't talk over us!' assholes at tumblr would recognize that not everyone who was killed was necessarily LGBT. I've known plenty of straight women who've hung out in gay bars with gay friends.

So let's get this straight. A mentally ill muslim, who used gay dating apps and the bar that he later shot up, was allegedly triggered by the sight of a gay couple kissing in front of him.

It doesn't surprise me at all that Mateen may have been in the closet himself. Self-loathing could very well have been a major factor in his embrace of extremist Islam.

It's highly unlikely. In my opinion, he was just using a common tactic of scoping out his targets through the apps and gathering places. It's a done thing by gangs in Russia, and I've heard of a few solitary cases in the US as well.

ISIS doesn't function like like a fast food chain restaurant franchise ; their M.O is encouraging muslims to commit attacks against infidels whereever and whenever they can using whatever tools they can. Their strategy is to seek out lone wolves and inspire them to commit attacks like this. They have set up a terrorist tip hotline specifically for lone wolves who wouldn't receive any other support from the organization.

I agree, but everyone who tries to do damage control by claiming ISLAM DINDU NUFFIN and shutting down all discussion of islamic extremism is only feeding those who wouldn't stop at just extremist islam (although islamic culture is extremely conservative when it comes to gays, even the so-called moderate strains) because every sane person can see that the reason for this attack was clearly rooted in islamic extremism.

So far there is no hint that the man was actively taking orders from ISIS. I have an idea about why he did it, but I'll wait for more information before I say anything.

It could be, but reports suggest he was visiting the bar since three years ago. IMO that seems like a long time for what appears to have been a spontaneous lone wolf attack, and he didn't buy the guns involved until very recently.

I just checked the Wikipedia article and more information on the victims has been added. Most of the victims were men, with eighteen of the victims being 25 or younger. Over 90% of the victims were Latino, and half of the Latino victims were of Puerto Rican descent. The reason why so many Latinos were victimized is because Pulse was hosting Latino Night, a weekly Saturday night event that is primarily patronized by Hispanic clientele. At the time of the attack there were about 320 people inside the club.

The names of all 49 victims were released after their next of kin were notified:

  • Stanley Almodovar III, 23

This is how trump gets elected.

This survivor story has inconsistencies that aggravate my autism.

" I could have ran to the back alley and out through the parking lot, but I panicked and went into a dressing room. It had a lock on the door you needed a code for. I put the code in quicker than I've ever done it, and by the time I was in there, I noticed there were already people in there -- one of them being Angelica Sanchez, our main entertainer at Pulse."

"Did he attempt to come into the room?

At one point the door opened, very slightly, I don’t even think he looked through the crack. I also don’t know if it was him. Then it closed. I don’t know if he thought it was a storage closet or something, or it could have been someone else looking for a place to stay. But just for a second it was open and then it was closed again."

How could the killer open a door he didn't have the code to without shooting the lock out? Is he lying to make it more dramatic? There are other things like the description of the alley way, how many times he supposedly cried but I've done enough sperging for now.

lol because obviously it was a false flag attack :story:
http://www.mediaite.com/online/alex-jones-already-calling-orlando-a-false-flag/

but in sane news

http://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-orlando-nightclub-shooting-20160613-snap-story.html

the gunman who attacked a Florida LGBT nightclub had attended the club before the attack and had used a gay dating and chat app, witnesses said.

Kevin West, a regular at Pulse nightclub, said Omar Mateen messaged him on and off for a year before the shooting using the gay chat and dating app Jack’d.

So with news about him also maybe being a closeted gay, his apparent virulent and vocal hatred for gays, and the fact that he was also apparently angrily racist and harassed coworkers, I don't think the mental sickness angle should be downplayed. Obviously it's stupid to not take into account his religious background, but the mental health angle should also be considered.

He found justification in his religion, and he was also deranged.

Even ADF has gotten laid by men and Chris has gotten a hooker. Like come on, how much can you fail that ADF and Chris beat you at this one aspect of the game of life?

That being said, this shows an interesting case study of the psychological impact of being told your lifestyle is a sin and that you will burn in hell for it. Makes you go crazy and may even take desperate measures to prove what you are not.

The closet can be a small, personal hell in of itself for gay men, sadly.

The youngest victim, 18-year-old Akyra Murray, had just graduated from West Catholic Prep in Philadelphia less than a week before she was murdered; she graduated third in her class. She was in Orlando to celebrate her graduation. Last month, she signed a national letter of intent to attend Mercyhurst University on a full-ride scholarship for basketball. She frantically called her parents after she got shot in the arm; for the next three hours, she slowly bled to death as she hid in a bathroom stall during Mateen's standoff with police.

Brenda Lee Marquez McCool, 49, was a mother of 11 and had survived two types of cancer. She regularly attended Pulse with her gay 21-year-old son, Isaiah Henderson. She was a staunch supporter of the LGBT community and an all-around wonderful person. She died shielding Isaiah with her body.

In lighter news, the GoFundMe account set up for the victims of the massacre has reached over $3 million, making it the most successful and fastest-growing fundraiser in the site's history. Equality Florida said it's working with local organizations and a team of attorneys and experts to allocate the funds fairly.

He could have misremembered. I mean... If you were in a situation like that, the last thing you'd be doing is remembering small details. No, you'd probably be praying to whatever higher power you believe in and hoping that you don't die.

Inconsistencies are to be expected from people who witnessed a mass slaughter.
