Inactive Terry A. Davis / Terrence Andrew Davis - Creator of TempleOS (formerly LoseThos/sparrowOS)

This may be unrelated, but he posted his last video on August 11th. That night at 9pm a man in his late 40s was hit and killed by a train in The Dalles (where he was living).

The article was posted on August 13th and says:

The article's behind a paywall, but here's the Google cached version: http://webcache.googleusercontent.c...-reported-saturday/+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

If this is Terry in the article, are they implying that he died via suicide or that he was just sitting on the track and a train snuck up on him (most likely when he was in a conversation with Mr. God) ? I wish there were more details. It sounds like those train tracks are either designed badly or they attract dangerprone people. In any event, a train accident sounds like the kind of thing that would be quick and sudden. Let's hope it was, if that truly was the cause of death.

Suicide or deaths as a side effect of the lifestyle are very common with schizophrenics, they don't tend to get old. (being HIV positive is probably less bad on the life expectancy if you live in the US at this point) probably I mentioned a few times earlier in this thread that his homeless situation is quite dangerous for him I think.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was real and it's also sad, when also kinda unavoidable at the point he was.

All of TempleOS's official files can be found here, including supplemental ISOs and whatnot:

http://www.templeos.org/Downloads/

I've backed up the entire directory so that I won't lose anything if/when the site goes down. Any Terry/TempleOS fans might consider doing the same.

The files are pretty small and mirroring them on Kiwi Farms probably wouldn't hurt. What do you think, @Null?

Didn't follow Terry too much but I did look from time to time to see how he was doing. I've dealt with a lot of schizophrenics through work and I'd say Terry was someone to admire in some ways. He was very ill, very much so when not on medication but he achieved something a lot of stable, sane people couldn't.
I've seen many people use an illness as an excuse to be lazy and just mooch around in life. Terry had goals and did his best to do something with his life.

Shine on you crazy diamond. It looks like you'll be missed by many, many people. Condolences to his family too. I can't imagine this is an easy time for them.

Does it seem a little odd to anyone else that our poster The Temple visited the farms today but didn't comment in this thread?

In a sane world Terry Davis would have millions and Steve Jobs would be penniless and ranting about 'glow in the dark CIA niggers'.

Come to think of it Jobs would have fit in pretty well as a lolcow if he weren't successful.

He denied paternity of his daughter at the same time he named the computer project he was running 'LISA', same as her name.

He always drove a silver Mercedes with no plates and frequently parked in disabled spaces, even though everyone knew it was him.

Unlike Davis Jobs had a genuinely nasty streak

In January, we began interviewing candidates for the software manager position. We had high standards and expectations and interviewed a number of outstanding people, like Ed Taft (who became one of the first employees at Adobe) and Tim Mott (who helped start Electronic Arts), who for one reason or another didn't take the job. But we also interviewed some more mundane candidates, which could sometimes get pretty wild if Steve decided he didn't respect someone.

For example, Burrell, Steve and I interviewed Angeline Lo's former manager, whom she highly recommended. As soon as the guy walked into the room, I knew it was going to be problematic, because he seemed extremely straight-laced and uptight, dressing more like an insurance salesman than a technologist. He also seemed very nervous as he fumbled at our first few questions.

I could tell that Steve was losing patience when he started to roll his eyes at the candidate's responses. Steve began to grill him with some unconventional questions.

"How old were you when you lost your virginity?", Steve asked

The candidate wasn't sure if he heard correctly. "What did you say?"

Steve repeated the question, changing it slightly. "Are you a virgin?". Burrell and I started to laugh, as the candidate became more disconcerted. He didn't know how to respond.

Steve changed the subject. "How many times have you taken LSD?"

The poor guy was turning varying shades of red, so I tried to change the subject and asked a straight-forward technical question. But when he started to give a long-winded response, Steve got impatient again.

"Gooble, gobble, gobble, gobble", Steve started making turkey noises. This was too much for Burrell and myself, and we all started cracking up. "Gobble, gobble, gobble", Steve continued, laughing himself now.

At this point, the candidate stood up. "I guess I'm not the right guy for this job", he said.

"I guess you're not", Steve responded. "I think this interview is over."

I don't know if this is real or not

But I feel like it's appropriate to write some assembly in his honor.

Like others have said, Terry embodied the hacker ethos that's been eroded by big companies controlling everything and young programmers chasing fat paychecks and jobs at so-called "hackathons". It is inevitable and I can't blame them.

But there are still people who push the limits of tech and old hardware just because they can. I'm optimistic this spirit will survive. We should celebrate people who tinker and explore instead of buying whatever premade product is marketed.

(IDK I'm tired didn't mean for this to turn into a moralistic rant)

I live in a CIA prison. A nigger runs my prison. In prison, the nigger tries to torment me. We can take away his knives by confessing, every day. In about 2000, I masturbated fantacizing about my niece, Lani. She looks like Star Trek Seven of Nine! In 1985, at my sister's wedding, I stuck my crotch on the hot tub drain because it kinda sucked. In 1985, I tried to get a dog to lick my dick. From 1998-2003, I fantacized about leading a Catholic army like Dune, of Mexicans or Brazilians? That was dumb because they're niggers. In 2003, I played tag with a black girl about 7-years-old. She reached for my crotch. In high school, in the library, Carlos and I said 'juicy' or 'toxic' as a way of evaluating girls. In 1988, I cheated on my SAT by talking in the hall during the break -- two problems. On 9/9/1999, I killed a CIA nigger on purpose with my car. :-) In 1982, when I was 12, I babysat Kevin's kids. I changed a diaper because I thought that was being professional. In 1975, when I was about age five, my brother, Keith, put my penis in a vacuum. In 1977, when I was about age seven, my brother, Danny, got me high on gas fumes and we sucked each other's dicks. Dr. Tsakalis had an oddly round ass. Paul Keck at Xytec had an oddly round ass. Distracting? At about age five, Jay Weinrick and I touched dicks to each other's assholes.

His youtube account got taken down and he went radio silent, at least on the farms, a little while ago. You can go back and check, but I'm guessing it was around the time when there was internal drama that @CIA Nigger mentioned. I thought that the original screenshot wasn't a fake because the original tweet seemed genuine and had an in with Terry. Who would pretend that Terry was dead? He's got a very niche following. I would expect a fake death notice to get posted on /tech/ by a tripfag accidentally posting under his trip. Cui bono? With the not so startling revelation that anyone on the internet with a modicum on influence eventually acts like a complete a faggot, it does call this whole situation into question.

If this was just a big ruse cruise because some asshurt NEET got ousted from his autistic power circle, I honestly won't care. I'll just be happy Terry is alive.

Oh, man, this is really sad to hear. Terry’s whole life was pretty tragic. He wasn’t a bad person and he had a lot of talent, but schizophrenia ruined his life (just like it ruins the lives of pretty much everyone who’s afflicted with it). We can only hope that a cure for schizophrenia will eventually be developed so no one else has to go through what Terry did.

/g/ and /tech/ are both furiously trying to get to the bottom of this. Whether their efforts will provide clarity or just confuse things even more, only time will tell.
