I'm actually warming up to the new slew of Chinese EV that are a mishmash of designs from Porsche and McLaren. I think It's Xiaomi SU7 and the other cars in that lineup.

Chinese EVs are also taking design queues from other brands too:

BYD Xia and Denza D9 have grills similar to the oversized Lexus grills in their newer cars:

Nio's spin-off Brand Onvo car, the L60, has lights similar to newer Genesis cars:

How hard is it to make an EV that looks like a regular ICE car? They really don't need to look futuristic.

Until batteries improve aerodynamics are everything for EVs. This lends itself to one shape. Once you can get batteries with 400+ mile range and under 30 minutes for a full recharge then you can probably start letting up on the aero a bit.

There's a few out there like the Hummer EV and the F150. But the Hummer does it by being a giant battery with wheels and the F150 by having limited range. And, of course, the Hummer is still doing the retarded light-bar shit.

Motor Trend listed their Best and Worst Cars of 2024, and mentioned a lot of EVs as disappointments. The Nissan Ariya is just average at best, the Fisker Ocean is again a software glitchfest with little support now that Fisker went bankrupt AGAIN, and they mentioned about the Chinese MG Cyberster having video game-like steering and uneven braking, 2 things that you DON'T want with a roadster, and once again proves that Chinese EVs are soulless devices only made because the CCP wants companies to make them.

Most Disappointing: MG Cyberster

The worst car was perhaps more disappointing than it was outright bad, and thankfully you probably can’t even buy one. I had high hopes for the MG Cyberster. Sporting dual electric motors good for 536 hp, gorgeous sheetmetal, a power-folding top, scissor doors, and flashy infotainment features, I was beyond excited to experience China’s take on the classic British roadster format. Unfortunately the Cyberster is more show than it is go. While certainly quick enough in a straight line, it, unlike the classic MGs of yesteryear, struggles with cornering and braking. Steering effort is best described as video game-light, with the same amount of feedback as a dying Xbox controller, while brake feel is uneven—which is not exactly what I’m looking for in a sports car capable of a 3.1 second 0-60 mph time. Ultimately the MG Cyberster feels like it lacks the frame of reference for what makes a great European roadster, and worse, that no one bothered to seriously consider what makes a good sports car in the first place.—Christian Seabaugh

I could believe this if the doors opened up instead of to the side.
I mostly just want them to go full ham on buttons and tactile controls and have the displays be monochromatic lighting instead of these bright colourful things we get now.

Imagine a modern day electric car that does it's very best to scream "analog" with intuitive tactile controls instead of a great big touchscreen.

Look at the Audi TT/R8 and the Bugatti Chiron:

Every modern feature you could want, no center screen, and all frequently used features (climate control, radio, cruise, drive modes, etc.) are physical controls.

Those are some hideous interiors though.

I don’t mind having a centre screen, it just shouldn’t be used for any control you may want to adjust while driving.

I'm perfectly fine with having a center touchscreen, as long as it is ONLY used to control media, satnav, reversing camera, and access obscure vehicle settings. Everything else should have physical knobs and dials, even volume control and play/pause

This is what we could've had with Tesla. But no. Elon is too much of a sperg.

I would be surprised if these even see the light of day since car companies are allergic to nice designs in general.

Chinese EV designs are even more soulless and hallow too.

Speaking of, BYD will start selling their junk EVs in South Korea in 2025, and are aiming for 10k sales. Considering that BYD had less then 3% of EV marketshare in Japan, with only about 1100 sold cars in the 1st half of 2024, and EVs are still a small share of the market in Japan, BYD will probably be a bigger laughing stock in Korea.

The general stagnation of battery technology kind of limits what design you can do for cars. When aerodynamics is all EVs can have to boast a 300+ mile range, a computer mouse look is what'll be utilized.

There's that and the fact that it will be bigger than the originals with a shit load of safety precautions installed, should it go into production. They're damn slick and cool looking though it remains as a proof of concept built out of an older model.

Realistically, the only way you'll see EVs with these looks is if you to a total conversion mod on an existing car, which is always going to be a joke in terms of range, even if the 0-60 is lightning fast. There's a lot of older cars that would be great candidates for an EV or inline-hybrid conversion, just for the giggle of it. The DeLorean would be one, and from a quick look over the interwebs it seems there's a few people who had the same idea. There's even a conversion kit. Madness.
