Is Tesla Gay?

If they can turn it into a product, I don't doubt they'll reach that easily. I'd pay car-level money for a domestic robot that can handle cooking and cleaning for sure.
Even if it's recording everything and storing it on Tesla servers? Because you know that's what it's going to do. The only way I'd ever have a robot like that is if it's entirely local, no internet connection.

Well no, I probably wouldn't buy the Tesla version, just because I'd rather not throw money into Musk's pockets. But once Xiaomi or Apple make one, I don't really have an issue. Those are reliable brands.

The expectation was that the EPA would eventually mandate electric vehicles. Car makers dragged their feet on EVs for a long time, because they thought maybe the Republicans would do something, but then Bush just ignored CAFE's rising requirements, while Obama doubled down, and the GOP Congress did nothing, so they finally decided to go all-in. Then Trump's CAFE neutralization happened, and it upset everything.
Did Trump at least make it easier for cars like the Suzuki Swift to return to the market?

Yes, the CAFE changes could allow that. But I suspect US automakers aren't going to bother as they're making a fortune selling overpriced SUVs and trucks. Also CAFE was just one part, there's still the safety requirements that have also contributed to the larger vehicles of today.

remember when the hip thing was electric cars, not packing people like sardines on light rail, metro, subway, etc. trains?

i am a cars > trains autist

BYD will be launching the U8L EREV for their Yangwang brand, and it will cost $180k and is almost 8000 pounds: / Archive

China is preparing to ban auto makers from making cars with retractable handles, in a rare justified moment by the CCP. / Archive

They also said that they're taking a look at the GIANT ASS INFOTAINMENT SCREENS WITH NO BUTTONS, and panoramic sunroofs too, but I don't expect they'll take action to crack down on those.

ICE has raided Hyundai-LG's battery plant under construction in Georgia, with 475 workers being detained. / Archive

Most of them are undocumented South Korean workers for some reason. They didn't want to cheap out further by getting Venezuelans instead?

And BMW and Mercedes-Benz continue to go all-in on copying the shitty ass Chinese EV interior design layout:

Porsche's Cayenne EV will also be available with a wireless charging pad to charge the car's batteries. Either this is going to generate a TON of heat, or the charge rate will be pitiful as it will only have an 11 kW output.

Looks like EVs are gonna remain shite forever, so my last hope for owning a car past 2035 or so is that battery technology will have evolved enough that I could build an Opel Calibra conversion with 500 km range without exceeding the original mass too much.
Should probably pick up a Calibra or Vectra B/C for a thousand bucks and mothball it somewhere so that when solid state batteries become cheap and available I can convert it. Why a Calibra? Decently cheap, very analog, very low cw value, relatively light chassis while potentially having somewhat larger engines (2l+ i4s and up to a V6), FF config so low headache when ripping out the motor and slapping a new one in. Shit like ABS being independent systems means that ripping out the engine doesn't fuck all the features because everything is centralized through the ECU.

ICE-cars are gonna be made impossible to own around here by rising costs. And even though they're saying that while new ICE cars can't be sold after 2035, there's still the used market, there are also proposals that will make selling them used nearly impossible. So if you don't want a rolling iPad at that point, EV conversions are the only option besides taking the train.
Maybe I'll start a company that offers conversions and kits for the most popular youngtimer models here...

Aside from range, charging, and being strapped directly above volatile, impossible-to-put-out compounds, most issues with EVs will end up affecting new ICE cars.

Cost-cutting is the name of the game. Just like most ICEs are FWD nowadays for both emissions and better cabin space, EVs being there means that any shared platform will end up being FWD purely to save on space.
Additionally, legislation plays a huge part in it. ADAS, Mandatory cameras, speed limit chimes and such mandates new cars on the market to have all this tech. Manufacturers don't want to have 50 independent systems they have to make communicate and individually maintain.
Instead, they'll probably have in-house ECU for basic body control, acceleration and deceleration, etc, the engine controller is often outsourced in cheaper brands (Bosch is fairly common) and the entertainment system, instruments cluster, ADAS, etc, often comes from a single manufacturer or two, Bosch is a long time maker that does it all, Mobileye does ADAS (and is what Tesla started with), Luxoft and Visteon are extremely common in cheap cars too.

Since car manufacturers are only required to provide parts for about 10 years, most governments expect old cars to die after 25 years at most. By 2035, you'll be unlikely to find any good quality, low-tech-pozzed ICE anywhere.
You'd be better off making your own car by grabbing an engine from an existing one with a Bosch control module, and getting off the shelf controllers at that point.

Xiaomi's CEO Lei Jun continues to make absurd advertising claims, such as Xiaomi cars being able to stop from 200 km/h instantly (which would literally turn you into paste), and implementing gimmick features such as a shaking mode to remove leaves from your car. All of this is happening while Xiaomi car owners are experiencing more and more issues with their cars:

Yeah, I know, it's unrealistic to hope that one could even fumble together a non-pozzed car in the future... At least not here where regulations will fuck everything.

So basically they're not just copying Tesla, they're also copying Elon Musk himself.

CNN: Why Tesla just threw $1 trillion at Elon Musk (archive) (lite)
Those potential shares might “only” be worth $148.7 billion as of Friday’s closing price. But if Tesla shares appreciate as much as the pay package forecasts, they would be worth close to $1 trillion once Tesla hits certain milestones: He gets all of those shares only if Tesla becomes worth $8.5 trillion, about eight times as much as it is today, and twice as much as any company on the planet has ever been worth.
“I am uncomfortable growing Tesla to be a leader in AI & robotics without having ~25% voting control. Enough to be influential, but not so much that I can’t be overturned,” Musk wrote in a post on X. “Unless that is the case, I would prefer to build products outside of Tesla.”

That need for control is what’s behind this pay package, said Ross Gerber, CEO of Gerber Kawasaki, an investment firm and one of the early investors in Tesla.
I thought the real reason is that the board is packed with sycophants and family members, but it's not anything I've paid close attention to.

Pretty funny seeing even normies try to partake in the conversation about their Tesla and how they bought it before he went "crazy". Rarely do they actually know what he went "crazy" about other than uhh, twitter something or other.

Shaking things up a bit:

A Dodge Charger EV Driver Got a Ticket for a Loud Exhaust

tl;dr cop cited a driver for having an overly loud muffler and disturbing the peace after a completely different car does a burnout at a traffic light. EV was in "auto mode" due to low battery, meaning it was quiet as a mouse. Cop refused to listen when the driver tried to tell him it was an EV.

I'm torn between wanting to mock someone who drives an EV "supercar" and wanting total pigger death.
