I really am curious about it. I don't know that much about what's going on, but don't you usually fire someone who fails to bring in any profit and is constantly causing bad PR? How have these comic companies not gone bankrupt yet?

They gatekeep. If they let anyone competent in they'd be out of the job. Essentially they want a monopoly on comics so they don't have to work.
